Wilfried Zaha

People who hang on every word of bullshit news sources despite knowing them to be bullshit are Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime.

That's not an opinion, it's a fact.

Hang onto every word? I quickly typed his name into twitter and said what people were saying. I even said it was bollocks myself. How is that hanging onto every word?

Correction: hanging on every word and then spreading every word.

Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime.

I sense you have a lot of anger and frustration bottled up in you. Taking it out on people you do not know on a message board. Oh but I forgot, I'm the Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime...

Okay my good Sir, Okay.

Back to someone semi-important: Did anyone see how Zaha did today?

Is this fella any good? I've never seen him play, or if I have I can't remember him.

School me, people.

I'm actually hoping this will all blow over now.

Can someone remind me why we want him in the first place?

Have you seen much of him? Or are you basing your opinion on the fact that he plays in the Championship?

Not aaying I think he's good or not, but I'd like some opinions from those who have seen him play at least a handful of times. .

David Gill on Zaha:"He's one of the players we're looking at. That's all I'd say at the moment."

More David Gill: "But even if we did do something with Wilfried Zaha, that would be for the summer."

Buy him and loan him till the EOS then. Dont think we can wait till summer if we want him. already seems to have plenty of suitors.

Yup and then auto-teller ate Gill's card.

Yep, pics to prove.

Can't say I have but this video I posted of his best bits was far from impressive.

Not knowing much about him I had a trawl around You-Tube and found this described as 'The Ultimate Compilation'.

I can't really see much to get excited about, 1 or 2 nice touches I suppose, but I won't be disappointed if it turns out to be bollocks.

Unless someone has found something a bit more exciting, this is as good as it gets I suppose:

No one seems to be getting excited about this, looks like more media hype than anything.

Does any one know, is he any good?

I have posted several times in this thread but yes, he is of a good level for his age, a general consensus is that he does not have unlimited potential, but how can people really claim that? Like they can tell he has a cut off point, I have seen about 15 games with him now (incl yesterdays game).

He is quick, and strong, he seems to be fairly intelligent, I have seen him look up on more occassions with a clever pass or two instead of beefing it into the box which is quite mature for someone of his age. I think end product would be a downfall of his, but not many wingers are the finished article in terms of end product by his age? But for me the most impressive things are speed, strength and decision making for him.

Also, he seems quite eager, I have seen him track back a few times but it does not look like its natural to his game, more of a natural inside forward than a defensive winger if that helps...

For the same reason Spurs bought Lennon, Arsenal bought Oxlade-Chamberlain + Walcott and Chelsea bought Moses. He might be very raw but if it is true that Wenger and Sir Alex both want him then it generally means you're looking at a British player with real potential. Ramsey, Powell, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Smalling, Jones - every one of these players looks or looked to have the potential to be a top class player. We tend to do well when we sign British players anyway. Since 2006 we've bought Carrick, Hargreaves, Smalling, Jones and Powell which is pretty good going. It's when we've went for the young foreign players we've screwed up, we've tried to find another raw, talented young winger in Tosic and Obertan and now it's time to go British. When Giggs leaves we'll need another body out wide and Valencia and Young will be 28 by that time so we need another young player to balance it out.

Great post

The key difference is that when we signed Smalling and Jones, there were other teams who made offers. There is no tangible 'competition' in this particular case, despite rumours (obviously coming from Palace) that there were several other clubs interested for this talented youngster.

Whilst I understand the clubs interest in the player: I feel that we have more than enough young English players and I don't perceive him to be that good.

Maybe Zaha is a smokescreen.

How can you possibly know that there is no competition for him?

We don't have any young players already in the wide positions... not at the age of 19, 20 anyway. Go through our ressies and they are basically all central players (the ones that are any good anyway) and the lads in the U18's just aren't there yet (plus they are also generally central players). So to go for the balance that Fergie likes of young players learning from older players, it makes sense to have a young English winger and he appears to be the best available option... unless you're ready to fork out 50m for Bale.
