Wilfried Zaha - Sold to Crystal Palace

I remember Oxlade Chamberlain not playing for Arsenal for the first few months there, and he did well when he got into the team, in all honesty Moyes hasn't been in a comfortable enough position to play Zaha. I would like to see him out on loan, If he does go out on loan it has to be a premiership side where he will start week in week out, so i'm assuming one of the relegation threatened teams. Sending him off to Fulham to work with Rene wouldn't be a bad idea imo. I think his athleticism is his best attribute, he isn't on Ronaldo's or Nani's level but he isn't as raw as Bebe, I would say he is inbetween. He is a project we didn't buy him to contribute immediately, we just need patience.

Aagh - he used the p word!

Bebe was also 'a project'...

Of course the other arguement is that he's coming off the back of 3 seasons of first team football with Palace... so he's had plenty of game time, what he might need is 6 months good solid high level coaching and training, and then to go out and to put it into practice. But yadda yadda yadda - "new tealady isn't as good - bad management."
I'd have thought its obvious he needs more. He still looks raw but he's improved from a season to season basis. The other thing is those 3 seasons you're quick to point out have been at a lower level than he's expected to perform. No amount of coaching or training is a substitute for playing time hence he isn't looking any better than when he started.

Bit unfair, I think. I have no doubt he's learning lots playing with top players every day, even in training. I think we'll smooth off a few of his edges and then send him out on loan in January a better player.
He's learning but he isn't applying what he's learning so its being wasted. He won't be a better player in jan unless he starts playing which doesn't look all that close to happening. Tell me this, when have you seen a player improve without game time?

New video (yesterday) from Rio's #5 magazine & F2 Freestylers. He clearly has great technique. Hope he gets a run of games at some point this season.

He is still too raw but to suggest he strikes similarity with Bebe is insane. He has shown way much more potential, he just young and learning.

I like how at the beginning of the video they talk separately and then finish the last words together.
I also like how they make each other explain each the tricks like they're ignorant themselves. A really nice touch at the end is them doing it slowly and not nearly as well themselves after already having seen a slowed down replay.
Finally, I really liked the conviction I got from Wilf (I call him Wilf) when he answered the last question.

Special mention to tekkers.

 Don't watch the other F2 videos then, whatever you do.

A very damaging article from the Daily Fail

Wilfried Zaha’s chances of getting a loan away from Manchester United this January are not being helped by suggestions that the young winger is struggling to adapt to the mental challenges of life at a big club.
Zaha has only appeared twice for United since Sir Alex Ferguson paid £15m to bring him from Crystal Palace last January and is so out of the picture in terms of David Moyes’ Barclays Premier League squad that he spent Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Cardiff sitting among journalists in the press box.
The 21-year-old has been linked with loan moves away from United in January and Moyes would be happy to let him go in order to get some game time and some much needed experience.

But Sportsmail understands that the England international’s case for a move is not being helped by suggestions from within United’s training ground that he simply has not yet developed the mental toughness for life at the very top level.
At least one Premier League manager who was considering a loan move for Zaha has been put off by feedback suggesting that the winger’s day-to-day contribution at United is not what it needs to be. It now remains to be seen if Zaha can up his levels between now and the start of the January transfer window.

At United there is no doubt that Zaha has ability. The youngster has the capacity to go past players and the confidence to take defenders on in wide areas.
However, the concern is that Zaha has been slow to understand other parts of his role as a wide player and that he has been unable to consistently suggest in training sessions that he is learning and improving.

From an interview with Phil Neville from the Guardian:

'Drawing on his own experiences - "a squad player," he says matter-of-factly - he has also taken great care to work closely with the players out of the team. Wilfried Zaha, for example. "Wilf is a diamond. People say: 'Why is he not playing?' But we're seeing the same with [Marouane] Fellaini and we've seen it with Vida [Nemanja Vidic] and Patrice [Evra] in the past. The first six months... forget the games, just being a Manchester United footballer, the intensity of training, the expectation, it's really hard. It blows you away."'

Nice to hear that from Phil, think Zaha has potential to be our best winger.... Great physique , two footed with superb skill

Interesting remarks there from Phil - worth paying attention to for some I know. Patience and persistence - and all that. Anyway, I hope Zaha can start making his presence felt in the second half of the season. Our wide options could do with some competition, no question about that.

Just been checking out Ronaldinho's elastico, and yeah I've yet to see any player come anywhere near close to Goofy's. Anyway I am hoping to see Zaha soon... Shame he's not got much game time.

No one will ever come close to goofy. Rivelino and Ronaldo Lima did it well, though.

On the topic of Zaha, take a look at post #3253 from datura. I've been annoyed about Zaha not getting any games until now, & while one doesn't expect Phil, a member of our coaching staff, to say 'yeah well, David is off his rocker, Wilf is deffo better than that Antonio guy', it does suggest there is more to it than what we see. He is indeed correct about how it happened with Vidic and Evra, & I can imagine the transition to a CL side from a team in the lower tier is not easy to make. Also, at his age I do think that even without playing, being at United is still doing him some good (as opposed to going out on loan, but not necessarily saying we shouldn't loan him) to just settle in and get used to the whole thing. The intensity is another issue (as Neville mentioned) and perhaps the coaches (who see Zaha every day) just don't think he's ready yet. I agree though, I really do hope we see him play more in the second half of this season.

To be fair to the poor kid, can't be easy not getting games, transitioning to a club like Manchester United, playing under a different manager than he signed for, and having to deal with these rumours.

Were they ever real rumours though? I always thought it was a joke?! 'Why isn't Zaha getting a look in? - must be shagging the Gaffers daughter!' I didn't think people seriously thought he was sleeping with her.

I'm pretty sure most people didn't take it seriously, it was all a bit of a laugh, but the fact that he had to tweet something like that suggests that a fair few did take it seriously.
