Wilfried Zaha - Sold to Crystal Palace

I thought he didn't impose himself on the game that much. Didn't try hard enough to get on the ball and make things happen.

Still, showed a couple of flashes. Rusty, as expected.

Very good first half - and I was impressed with the way he worked his socks off to get back into defensive positions when he lost the ball.

He had the exact opposite effect on the game than I expected. I thought he'd be having a right go at the their defence, and sort of neglecting his defensive duties, Ronaldo style. He didn't really show us what he's capable of with the ball, but his defending was excellent. He was unfortunate to have been judged to have fouled the Norwich player when he was barged off the ball but then won it back. Looked like an excellent recovery to me.

I think he's worthy of some substitute appearances and the occasional start in the coming months before he possibly goes on loan in January.

He had a good first half but completely disappeared for large chunks of the second half. Good defensive work from him but I didn't really see much that excites me like with Januzaj as he seemed scared to try things too many times. Hopefully we get him out on loan to a good team where he'll get minutes.

Looked brilliant potential wise really excited about this kid, lot more to come through games.

A loan would be great for him providing he is guaranteed minutes every week.

Plenty of Premier League clubs who could utilise him. Hopefully it materialises because I don't think he'll get too many chances for us this season. There is a distinct difference between him and Januzaj for example and you can see why Januzaj has gained the confidence of pretty much everyone whilst Zaha looks a rough diamond in need of some fine tuning.

Agree. Still very raw albeit you can see his potential. I'd loan him out to Newcastle. Some may probably disagree but I think they could do with a right winger. Gouffran currently plays on the right for them and I think he's pretty shite. For the meantime I think we should use him coming off the bench. He'd do well against tiring teams.
He played well in the first half but faded in the second, probably due to lack of match fitness to be honest.

Didn't get into the game enough but when he did he usually was very good.

Give me Zaha over Young any day of the week even at this moment, not to mention Zaha should improve leaps and bounds while Young (at best) has reached his peak if not already declining.

While I don't think he should start a lot of (important) games, he should be a more than viable option off the bench.

Am I the only one that thought he was a bit poor? I left the game thinking how right Moyes was to keep him away from the important matches.

I wouldn't go as far to say 'poor' but he wasn't great. You can't expect him to come on and make an immediate impact either. He had a good first half and showed an appetite for the battle as well as some good touches, but in the second half he was invisible and Moyes was right to take him off. Hopefully it'll be the start of him getting some game time and he can build up his fitness and sharpness.

Adnan wasn't able for 90 minutes right away either.

He has too though that's the problem. In a competitive enviroment like this you need to make any little chance count - just like Januzaj has.

Not all players are like that though. Rooney for example takes a few games to get up to speed. He has the luxury though of a reputation which gives him more time.

It's easy to look invisible on the wings. It's all dependent on the amount of service you get, and what area of the pitch you get it in. He did ok when you factor in how many games he's played this season! He's certainly no worse than any of our other wingers that are playing ahead of him (Januzaj aside).

If you look back in this thread Bill, you'll struggle to find anyone other than Top who was happier when we signed Zaha. I'd love him to get his run, but I can understand why Moyes is only going with one child winger and Adnan has looked better.

Zaha just needs more time to prove himself and I'd rather that happen here than on loan.

I agree. I was actually expecting Zaha to start the season on the wing as everybody else was seemingly injured or out of form. Moyes stuck with experience though, which was understandable with the fixture list. I guess Januzaj got his chance first and has made himself a fixture.

I just thought I'd point out that it's not necessarily his fault that he drifted out of the game. I hope he gets another few run outs in the coming weeks.

A couple of runs off the bench to really go at full backs at the end of games would be ideal.

I thought he did really well in the first half, although he wasn't involved all that much as most of our attacking play was on the left flank. Second half he went missing.
But for me he looks like an excellent player, and I really hope he'll get more games from now on. He has some real X-factor about him...

I know some may think I have it in for him, but just watched him for 90 mins against Finland and was extremely unimpressed. Not as good as he thinks he is, and spent most of the game trying tricks that did not work.

A million miles away from the first team, he needs a loan out and to drastically improve his decision making.

Maybe thats down to playing about 5 minutes of football in the last 4-5 months though, he needs to be playing games if we want him to improve. Been a complete waste of money so far (not his fault) and needs a loan in January.

I'm surprised he hasn't been told to tone down the tricks, he does far too much when it's really not necessary.

He's got so much ability. It's all about learning for him now and making sure he makes that next step. I'm glad he didn't go on loan, this 6 months at United will have done him good even if he's not seen any playing time.

I've always felt he'd be at least 2 years away and I still think that would be the target.

Agree with every word. Clearly not at his sharpest and who can blame him? He can't go all season like this and I'm sure Moyes is well aware of that.

Needs to play football. He played tonight like most of our players played in pre-season. He looked rusty. Heavy touch. Didn't seem to have any sharpness when it came to making decisions, something which he looked very good at last season. He was tricky, but he also played the right pass at the right time plenty.

Either play him, or give him a loan. Can't see it being the former, so send him off to prove his worth.

I just think he looks so raw and out of control...I hope he proves me wrong but I don't actually see a lot of promise in him.
