Wilfried Zaha - Sold to Crystal Palace

It seems that for some United should be some sort of nursery for British talent.

I guess Wilson, Blackett and Januzaj aren't youngsters.

Wilson hasn't played this season yet, he's just in the squad but his chances will be very few. Blackett is playing because of injuries but he's been impressive. Januzaj has no real role in this new formation so far. Im not saying we're suddenly against youngsters, but each of those players will struggle for minutes this season.

It's more likely that our lack of European football and us crashing out of the league cup are the more likely reasons some of those players will struggle for minutes.

And struggling for minutes is a subjective term when you consider both Wilson and Blackett are extremely young, and Januzaj will have to get through the usual second season syndrome that youngster's always go through. Getting any sort of gametime will be reasonable for Wilson/Blackett; you can be sure if Fergie was still here they certainly wouldn't have gotten any more gametime than under LVG.

142 stepovers. Didn't do much in the second half either.

Pretty misleading post IMO. Didn't do much wrong today, passed his defender When he had the opportunity and put a couple of decent balls into the box. Wasn't involved nearly enough though, CP was mainly playing down the right despite Zaha lookin like their most dangerous offensive outlet. It could be argued that he doesn't assert himself enough on the pitch but that's a also a tactical issue and Warnock has to take responsibility for that aswell.

It was meant to be misleading. Just a bit of sarcasm

Carling Cup

Not in the Palace team today? Injured or dropped?

They played a more defensive formation on the counter and Bolasie was preferred to him for the role of Campbell.

Went into a 2-1 and then 3-1 lead so didn't need to bring him off the bench.

Warnocks comments are making him look like a mug now, having only started Wilf in one game. Once again he looked threatening when he came on, which makes you wonder what exactly he's doing in training considering no manager seems to want to play him. Had a real Zaha-moment where he completely made fools of Fabregas and Ivanovic in one sweet move, only to totally botch the cross.

Must be the laziest player in training for him to be ignored by 3 different managers

There's real talent there. Shame about the work ethic or attitude. Fans there seem to love him though.

4 managers - moyes, ole, lvg and now Warnock.
Holloway wrote a whole column about Zaha needing to work harder too, and warned him not to think that he's 'made it' because United signed him.

It would be interesting to see if Warnock mentions anything regarding his attitude in training. OGS mentioned that he needed to work harder. Moyes clearly wasn't impressed by him given how many minutes Zaha got under him. And there was a story by Ducker about Zaha being the only one in the entire squad that didn't come in for extra training under LVG.

It's clearly his attitude and lack of application in training sessions.

It'll be a shame if he is another one who probably isn't going to reach his full potential due to poor attitude and a lack of application. Decent assist against Chelsea though.

I saw him yesterday, and i have watched him several times before aswell, he never looks like an intelligent footballer, i don't understand this notion of him being skillful aswell, he looks so awkward trying to dribble and always makes wrong choices when dribbling, that's not a sign of a good dribbler, his crossing is hilariously bad, and this he looked threatening is wrong aswell, he never actually beat Ivanovic once, while he got a lucky deflection of Luis, that's the only time he got any change out of him, Downing on his good days looks twice a player. I don't think he has the talent or the ability to succeed here, i would be really surprised if he makes it, i think Championship, or a bottom half Pl team is his level.

Zaha's signature move - the ricochet dribble.

I agree with your post. But I do think he's above the Championship. Palace is about his level, in my opinion, provided he puts in effort.
I see very little of this 'talent' he's supposed to have.

Sky Sports says he was lively and Palace's best player Monday. Hopefully he will get more starts after we play Palace.

I watched the game last night and he was largely wasteful. He kept on trying to beat his man more than once (no idea why) and has no left foot. He should learn to cross with his left as he'd become a more potent player.

Having said that, if he straightens himself out, I can see him reaching similar levels that Nani did in that glorious 18 month spell he had from 2010 to midway through to 2011 (before he was killed by Carragher).

Absolute waste of money from Fergie.

It didn't have to be. He showed a lot of promise but it's been suggested from several sources that his attitude isn't the best.

He might be the next Ravel Morrison. There was another player with a lot of promise but who's attitude has seriously hampered his ability.

At least we produced Morrison, we bought Zaha 15M

This is what I don't understand, I thought we are such an in depth scouting report system that looked into players backgrounds etc. If his attitude is terrible (which apparently it is), how the hell wasn't this flagged up.

The amount of money we have wasted on 'promise' is ridiculous.

Zaha cost us an initial fee of £10m. Since he has barely featured for us, the add-ons will currently be minimal. We have also been paid loan fees by both Cardiff and Palace. From a financial perspective, it may, bizarrely, work out ok for us; another year out on loan after this season then sell him for £5m-£6m and we might break even.

We didn't make that much on Morrison as the West Ham deal was structured as 650K + add-ons which don't come to much as he's been out on loan for most of the time and it is unclear whether West Ham will want to extend his deal with his trial after Christmas.

For all the criticism aimed at Zaha for his performances this season, a quick stats analysis on Squawka shows he's far outperformed RVP this season on a per mins on the pitch basis, nevermind Bolasie, Campbell, Chamakh etc.

Zaha is no next Ravel either. Ravel's skill set was far more rarer than what Zaha showed.

However much scouting and research you do into a player, you can never predict how they deal with the step up to United - some players thrive on the challenge to work harder whereas others prefer to go back to being the big fish in a small pond where they are picked every week regardless of their performance in training.

Also sometimes we are rushed into buying sooner than we would probably like due to interest from other clubs - I think that was probably the case with Zaha with quite a few teams sniffing around him at the time.

Anyway at least he is getting regular starts at the moment, he needs game time.

Buying young players with promise is always a gamble though isn't it? You can either have the next Giggs on your hands or a player that's reached his peak early and who will never really improve.

The ability of an average 25 year old premiership player in a teenager looks phenomenal, but most never get any better than that and when they get to 25 are just that average premiership player themselves.
