Wilfried Zaha - Sold to Crystal Palace

Zaha's got something. You read the stories about how little he applies himself and think if he just concentrated on improving he'd become a serious proposition.

Sarcasm right? I'm not sure.

100%, he's got flair and pace about him that we kind of only have in Januzaj at the moment. Having two of that sort of player is good to have in case one is out with injury or needs resting. Otherwise it just gets pretty stale as last season showed. Nani was the last flair player we had prior to these two, but as is clear he doesn't have it anymore and quite frankly doesn't look wanted.

We need that type of winger that is not afraid to dribble past defenses and create chaos like Robben did on World Cup in this system.

Zaha will definitely need more time and chances but it's good to have at least one player in that vein.

How did he do at Cardiff? Last I heard from him was when he posted on Insta saying "there's nothing better than a manager believing in you, he was pictured alongside Ole.

He's is an exciting, unpredictable player. Needs proper guidance and training. Keep him and use him when we play 433 or give him some time up front. Nani's time is up..

Puts defenders on the back foot. I thought Valencia did well first half but like this kid. Think some wrote him off prematurely. Under LVG could be a great player for us. Needs to work on his end product but he's strong, has great pace and has imagination. Well done Zaha.

There's quite clearly a very good player there somewhere.

Can be a good impact sub to have if not anything else.

Class performance tonight, more than the acceleration and trickery, I was impressed by his composure and poise. Last season he was clearly trying to do too much in the preseason games.

He had a couple of decent runs from the left, not easy for him and Nani as the role is not familiar to them.

I was very impressed, seemed to be more committed than Nani was. LVG could mould a good player out of him.

Did well but he needs to get a good loan this season, and he needs to perform in training and actually play unlike at Cardiff. He won't play much this season because of our options up front.

And therein lies his problem. As I said earlier, he's last in the pecking order of strikers and as such I feel that with Keane and Wilson coming through and both ahead of him in the queue Van Gaal won't keep him here.

It would be in his own best interests to move somewhere he's going to get a regular game in his preferred position.

Yeah. Even if we were to use the 4-3-3 mainly, van gaal would first of all buy a winger, then we would have Januzaj, Valencia, nani, kagawa/mata, Rooney and welbeck all likely ahead of him still. And probably lingard. He did well today though and hopefully some premier league team will give him the chance to impress. One that isn't in a relegation scrap as it's always hard to impress in that.

It will suit him to be a proper forward than being a someone that has to track back, so he can put all his energy into attacking. This system may be a blessing for him, but only if he's up there with a natural forward or he learns some disciplined centre forward play.

Can't remember if he played that role for Palace.

Physically, he has all the attributes - his body build is Ronnie esque, maybe even ahead of his at the same age, certainly won't be far behind if not. Technically, I think he's full of tricks and packs a cracking shot, his mentality I a haven't clue but haven't got any suggestion of anything to give me worries either.

I think he'll develop nicely this season and hopefully get a couple of decent cup runs. I even suspect he'll get some decent game time in the PL as and when we rest the strikers/wingers, his option of pace from the bench is always an asset.

If we did sell him this summer I wouldn't be able to shake a nagging worry that he might still put it all together and develop into a cracking player. He's exactly the sort of talented young player we should be looking to send out on loan and hope he comes back a more mature and effective player. Such a pity his Cardiff stint was a total disaster, although it can't have been easy playing for a club in freefall. If we do send him on loan, we need to think long and hard about where we send him. What about Everton?

If he continues this way in preseason I think he'd be a good sub to have through the season. If its just not happening up front he could come on and be a livewire.

Another option would be to try and get him a loan to a side that looks to use him up front, helping him learn the role

He would suit the 3-4-3 formation if we tried it, I would love to see Zaha and Januzaj flanking RVP or Rooney. Let them work the Channels and stretch the defence and link up with Shaw and the RWB with overlaps would be nice.

I think it's clear that Van Gaal is going to start the season with the 3-5-2 and keep that formation as much as he can aslong as it doesn't fail, in that case he will revert to 4-3-3.

Zaha is going to struggle to get game time in the 3-5-2 with Welbeck, Hernandez, Rooney, RvP infront of him and most likely Januzaj and Nani could be used as strikers in that formation.

One thing is for certain, it'd be daft to sell him this season. There's something there, he just needs to apply himself properly.

I like the way all the opinions have changed in 45mins and everyone is an expert on him all of a sudden.

Yesterday he was a waste of space, zero talent, bad workrate, bad decision making, plus a load of other crap.

End of the day the guy has a unique talent, single-handedly got Palace promoted the year before we signed him and has always had an end product, end product has always been one of his strong points, putting the ball in the box always bang on the money.

He's one of the most exciting young players in English football, this is highlighted by his performances for Palace and England under 21's, start seeing things through your own eyeballs rather than seeing what Dave Sprout as to say about him in the Mail on Sunday and recycling that shite on here.

And his end product at Cardiff was??

Still not convinced. But if he can improve his attitude it can go a long way in improving.

Did he prove anything we didn't already know? We already knew he was talented. Question is if he can step it up. The championship is more competitive than these friendlies so my doubts remain. If preseason was a good sample we'd still have Chris Eagles.
