What is Luis Suarez worth?

Err he left us at 24 and his his proper peak after that. I don't understand why Pool fans are so desperate to have Suarez anointed the BPITW right now it self. Just wait out the season. Infact if Suarez carries this form to the WC, then he might get the World player of the year award as well.

I am not trying to annoint him BPITW just yet. I am just saying his form is comparable, maybe even favourably so, to Ronaldo. That is what many people seem to be taking issue with.

Agree though, the WC will be a clincher for the award next year.

Next two games will be a test for me. If Suarez can perform against two sides that are top 4 in the league then I'll be very happy. He is playing brilliant at the moment but away to city is nearly impossible this season with them putting 5 and 6 past teams at the Ethiad and Chelsea will be very difficult. To be honest I'd be delighted to get out of these games with 1 point.

:)
In all seriousness though to come away from Stamford Bridge and the Ethiad with a draw wouldn't be the end of the world. You should really hope we take points of both them though because if they sign well in the window then they could pull away from the pack so if we take points off them now it will be good for your come back trail.

To come away from the Etihad with a 3 goal deficit is brilliant nowdays.

They'll pull away regardless IMO so I hope they hammer the shit out of you.

As for Suarez, he's actually playing a game a level or two above the entire premiership, dominating and destroying teams for fun.

Shades of Young Giggs, Henry and Ronaldo at their pomp.

Its now the turn of Suarez to light up the league.

Great player

Young Giggs was up there with Henry and Ronaldo?

I'm going to predict he doesn't do all that against the big teams coming up

I guess if he doesn't it'll prove that he isn't as good as everybody is suggesting

If he doesn't score but we scrape a result in both games with a scuffed couple of goals I'd say himself and Liverpool fans will be delighted.

I was being slightly sarcastic

to be honest he's out performed Ronaldo this season. He's not as good a player obviously, but on form this season there's no one to beat him

Ronaldo has been in good form this season to be honest. This is probably his best season as far as I know and he came flying out of the blocks really fast up until that injury. Sometimes injuries can affect players as we have seen with Messi, RVP or even Rooney. It is how they come back from them that counts most. It pains me to say this but, Suarez is indeed the most in form player in Europe at the moment, if not the world, and I mean at this moment. Should his purple patch continue then, he could go on to beat two premier league records for most goals scored in a season by Drogba, Ronaldo, Shearer and Cole, for 38 and 42 games respectively. To have a goal a game at the end of the season, he only needs another 14 goals to possibly make 33 goals in 33 games, and no-one has ever scored a goal a game at the end of the season. At the end of the day, he can only score against what is in front of him, and we this could be doen for any decent striker in the premier league. For our players:

Rooney averages 0.41 against Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City.
Ronaldo averages 0.33 against the same teams.
RVN averages 0.45 against the same teams.
RVP averages 0.62 against the same teams.

It will be interesting to see if he bottles it or not.

You are one stat obsessed individual, PL.

I know... I created a thread in the newbies for the 2011/12 season if I remember correctly, and I am sure Damien can tell if it is still there or not. Anyway, I created a table with games played, topscorers with goals per game if I remember correctly. I just love statistics. When you hear that a player hasn't scored in so many matches, it is not a real reflection on his performance, since he could have only played 45 minutes for 4 let's say. For the media, he hasn't scored in 4 matches, but for me, I would like to think of it as simply 2 matches, since 4*45 minutes = 180 or 2*90 minutes.

Its an amazing knack you have Proud_Lyon. Looking back I'd say 7/8ths of your posts are full of stats. If you reduced this to round 3/4, or 75% during peak season, your chances of getting a date would rise by 100%. :)

Lets not get carried away here. Before his injury this season Ronaldo was on his hottest streak ever. He was sidelined for the majority of December whereas Suarez has taken December by the storm. On this month alone, Suarez has displayed BPITW form by scoring 10 goals in 4 games whereas Ronaldo managed only 2 goals. However, from the start of September until the end of November, Ronaldo has scored 25 goals in 16 games including three hat-tricks and smashing the CL goals record. If we add his WCQ stats within the same period which includes two hat-tricks and a goal in 4 games, he will be on 32 goals in 20 games. You do the math, some monster stats they are. Suarez is ending the year with a bang, but I think Ronaldo started the season better.

Suarez scored 35 goals in 32 games this season (19 goals in 12 league games, 16 goals in 19 international matches, 0 goal in 1 cup matches), absolutely stunning states.
On the other hand, Ronaldo scored 40 goals in 32 game this season (18 goals in 16 league games, 9 goals in 5 CL games, 10 goals in 8 international matches, 3 goals in 3 cup matches). Ronaldo is still better this season.

Suarez is a fantastic player but he is still a cnut and I love to hate him. Have to feel for Liverpool fans, imagine liking this guy.

It shouldn't resort to detailed stats to know this but for some it was needed.

What makes Ronaldo better he has done it for a number of years. It's that consistency which sets them apart from the next bunch. You can't put Suarez there yet. If he tails off this season then he up won't be as good. But if he continues into next season, then you can start saying he is in the top 3 and in the same bracket too.

For Suarez to be compared he needs to do it on a Saturday, then a Wednesday in Europe then again the next Saturday.

At the moment, he is getting a good rest between games and without taking away from his achievements, he hasn't played a run of games against top opposition this season.

I would have him 3rd in the world at the moment and while you are only as good as your last game, I wouldn't say he is the 3rd best player in the world. He is there on form, not the whole package.

I cannot wait for someone to mentor us on how La Liga defending is comical as compared to incredibly high standard of defending in Premier League and Suarez would be getting 3 goals a game over there.

He might but he's still not Messi or Ronaldo. Or the third best player in the world. He's a very good player in very good form.

There isn't much between players in the tier below Ronaldo and Messi. If those two didn't exist, it'd be very difficult (and exciting actually) to hand out the top accolades for individuals. The likes of Ribery, Falcao, Suarez, Bale, Lewandowski, Zlatan, Iniesta, van Persie and even Rooney at his best (as well as a few others) would be at it.

Those claims about someone being 3rd best surface every now and again - last year Falcao was the flavour of the month, this year it's been Ibrahimovic first and then Suarez.

It all depends if Suarez keeps it up to the end of the season, neither Falcao Bale Rooney or Lewdanowski have a season where they've scored more goals than games, only Messi and Ronaldo.

I wouldn't see how this makes sense, technically Ronaldo isn't a better player than he is.
