What is Luis Suarez worth?

Ok, if you put Rooney in the market you'd be looking at what, £30-40m tops. Suarez would go for £100m.

Your so giddy and excited that you've completely undervalued Rooney and over valued Suarez.

top dog at the moment...and Liverpool have been brilliant in getting him to sign the contract. Didn't think that would happen. Breeds real ambition throughout the team and club. Hope we can do the same with Rooney

No doubt he does it in a more grander style, but Ronaldo has 9 goals in 5 CL matches(which is the premier competition in the world). I don't think you can discard that.

All due respect to the competition, it was a group with FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray. Plus Juventus weren't that good.

Based on what? Just goals?

Based on what Madrid paid for Bale and that Suárez just signed a new contract, I'd say his valuation isn't far off.

feck the bucktoothed little gobshite, though. He's still a cnut.

To be fair Ronaldo and Messi have taken consistency to a different level. Likes of Zidane, Figo, Ronaldinhio at their pomp were never that consistent and were never that closely scrutinized for it as well. No one is saying Suarez is not putting in a WC show right now. I said that he is on course to be the third best player to grace the PL era after Henry and Ronaldo. But he will have to match the consistency of the top two if he wants to enter that conversation.

I would love to find out your criteria to back that ludicrous statement up. I mean, what is the criteria? If we are talking about best players on a consistent basis then Henry has a right to be there with 0.68 goals per game, Alan Shearer and RVP who have a goal per game average of 0.50. Cristiano Ronaldo is up there with 0.40.

If he doesn't get his annual 8 match ban he will set a new goal scoring record. Great player. He's way too good for Liverpool. With his playing style he would complement Messi and Neymar at Barca.

Jeez it is not about stats. I don't think it is controversial statement to say that Henry and Ronaldo have been the two best players in PL era.

Well, you're a bit bitter.

What Suarez is producing now is, sadly for me as an England fan, on another planet to anything Rooney has ever done.

That's not to say Rooney isn't a very, very good player, but Suarez is just spectacular.

I suppose there is some excuse why his 4 goals against Sweden were not all that as well?

Because I don't think that Suarez is worth £70M more than Rooney?

Do shut up, al.

I like Rooney and I rate him highly, but should I take the red specs off, I can clearly see that Suarez is clearly on another level to Rooney.

Between February and April 2012 Messi scored 26 goals in 14 games - that's out of this world. But then you get the impression this bloke wasn't watching football at this point if he's now completely amazed by Suárez's form.
How many were pens? It was also an amazing feat but suarez plays in a lessor team, in a more competitive league and he's match or bettering that sort of form.

On what basis though? I am actually asking you. Is it because of the 'wow', factor? Henry, RVP, Shearer, damn even Andy Cole or Robbie Fowler were quality players in their time.

On the basis of their performances. Good luck to you if you think Cole or Fowler were better players than Ronaldo.

You're a very protective poster.

Suarez is the better player by quite a distance. To place Rooney above the £40m value range is silly, when he's going to be 29 and he's not even as good as Suarez.

Not to mention messi is miles better in pretty much every other area barring "tenacity". Some of his passing is plain ridiculous, his dribbling is miles ahead of anyone else and his overall game is almost as good as his goalscoring too.

And you are an awful poster.

Only an absolute melon would value Suarez at £70m more than Rooney, he's probably worth about £70M in total.

I feel stupider in general for having compared him to messi.

Suarez' form is Messiesque/Ronaldoesque but it's not enough to be judged as the best player in the world, he needs to keep it up for at least an entire season and prove that this season isn't a fluke and he could do it again.
Liverpool are understandably giddy over his performances but some perspective is needed.

I rated Thierry Henry over Ronaldo because he really was a class act and he did it on a regular basis.

And? I said both of them are the two best. I would say Henry edges it because he did it for a longer period in the PL, if Ronaldo had stayed a couple of more years then he would be been easily the best.

This is a very serious question. Could Suarez be their version of Cantona? The way he's playing this season he has become an inspirational figure for them. In this form he could single handedly win games for them even when they are not playing well. Cantona had that effect and turned an underachieving United side into perenial title contenders and multiple winners. It's only halfway through the season and they have a thin squad but Suarez could prove to be the difference. Their biggest coup in the transfer window was preventing him from leaving.

How did you work that out? He scored 16 less goals in spite of playing 4 goals more than the previous season, strange logic. I'll glady take the lottery numbers if you have them too.

You don't think Ronaldo is a better footballer than Henry?
