What is Luis Suarez worth?

Madrid have more attacking talent than any club could dream of, and even if they wanted him, they surely wouldn't want him enough to pay £60m, especially after having spent so much last season on Bale. Barcelona are in a similar situation, after having spent so much on Neymar. The two big spending French clubs (PSG and Monaco) have both recently spent £50m+ each on a striker and the only German team capable of paying very big money is more interested in doing so for Lewandowski.

I think the main interest will come from English clubs. Given his baggage in England, I think a £60m is highly unlikely.

Which club is going to pay that? Most of the clubs capable of spending that amount of money are already oversubscribed with top quality forwards. I don't understand why people think a club is going to pay £60-70m for a 27 year old striker who they don't even need.

Monaco ? They're flushed with cash and received a great new in terms of tax policy in France. Unlike the other 19 clubs in Ligue 1, they'll be exempt from paying the taxes for players who earn more than 1million euros yearly.

Dude, the thread title doesn't ask you to analyse which club is going to buy him...it asks what he's worth, in today's market.

And while I can see Madrid trying to get him in for the misfiring Benzema, they'd probably get him for a bit cheaper - due to being in a foreign country, Suarez would probably beg for a move etc...

But Falcao, Cavani, Ibrahimovich are all examples of "older" strikers going for mega bucks and even in Cavani's case - I don't think there was any "need" to get him. Suarez is currently in such hot form, I wouldn't rule anything out just yet.

But talking only form, age and today's football market, Suarez is easily worth 60-70M.

If Liverpool don't make CL football then next summer they will find it hard to keep him. However until then unless R.Madrid come in with in a take it or leave it offer to him he ain't going anywhere. I think he'd force to issue to join them even in January. I said earlier in the season unless Liverpool are out of contention of the CL by January he won't leave and stand by that. It would make more sense to them to sell in the summer for £40mill then sell him in January for £70mill because CL qualification will be worth more than just the £30mill TV money. It will enable to attract a higher calibre of players which they couldn't do in the summer.

I think he'll go for £30-40m.

Yeah of course he will.....

People saying he won't go for £60 million because no one will pay it and as a result will go for £30-40 are deluded. If Liverpool don't get a massive bid, they simply won't sell him.

He's the most exciting striker in the world for me, possibly the best. He has everything.

That never stopped Real Madrid before.

He's a great footballer who's in a bit of a purple patch at the moment. So many of you are going overboard here.

He scored 23 goals last season and already has 17 this season, when does it stop being a purple patch?

He's a brilliant player, one man attack almost. He's worth more than Cavani and El Tigre in my view. I'd say £60m- £65m will satisfy Liverpool.

Still can't decide whether he's better than Aguero or not, but the two are out on their own ahead of our two strikers I feel.

between £32.5-£41.75m worth.

What he'll go for? Depends on how badly club want him and how much Liverpool want to keep him

That depends on the power of denial of the poster.

If pushed, you can be sure it will be followed up with a "he's off in the summer anyway." Possibly with an assertion that he is barely worth 40m.

How many years has he on his contract? 2 and half years isn't it?

I imagine any new contract will be signed with a clause included in his contract. I'm guessing he'll be sold for something between 50-60m. Liverpool fans are deluded if they think they'll get anywhere near 70m for him.

Comparisons with Bale are wide off the mark as Bale is around 2years younger and will probably turn out to be a better player than Suarez.

First, it's quite obvious that Madrid would want him for the simple reason that Suarez is much better than Benzema and would make Madrid's attack completely unstoppable. Right now, as good as Madrid are, they are not better than Bayern or Barcelona. The signing of Suarez could make them the best. That's a much more attractive way to do it than signing top defensive players.

Second, Bayern could easily change their stance and decide that they need Suarez and not Lewandowski. And they have the money to sign Suarez.

Third, 60 mill won't stop City from trying to get him.

I guess that Real will make an attempt to buy Suarez. But they would be reluctant to pay, say, 70 mil pounds. Therefore, they will tell Suarez that he is a top priority for them but they couldn't afford him unless he helps them by making his position at Liverpool untenale. And you know Suarez is perfectly capable of doing something really really stupid...

I don't think a list of best players should be compiled on the basis of performance over one season.

At the end of last season, I would have regarded RVP, Rooney, Bale and Aguero as better than Suarez. Then from elsewhere in Europe I would have had him behind Ribery, Lahm, Ibrhahimovich, Falcoa, Inniesta and obviously Ronaldo and Messi

I think at most you could possibly argue that, prior to this season, he could have been regarded as a better player than one or two of those I've listed above. Suarez can't be elevated from someone who was (at best) knocking on the top 10 in Europe list at the end of last season to someone who is in the tier of Ronaldo and Messi on the basis of 11 games alone.
So you didn't regard Cristiano as one of the best players in the world after his 06/07 season?

Scoring nearly as many goals in a third of the games is the purple patch, genius. Unless you think he's going to score 50 goals this season.

Maybe he has become better this season? He is still 26 and developing as a player.

Become better and playing in a better more settled team. It all adds up.

Basically he has improved every season he's been here.

Sadly you don't play Norwich that often. There have been many, many players who looked 'nailed on' to break Shearer's record, even this early in the season, and nobody's ever managed it. Suarez might yet, but his scoring rate will certainly slow before long.

edit: Though I think the lack of Europe probably plays in his favour with regards to the record. Giving him an advantage over other players who've gone close.

I don't know how many goals he will score but I do think he is capable of keeping up this level over a long period. Since he joined Liverpool he always been a player who looks a threat in most games, I think he has stopped looking for fouls all the time and focussing that energy on scoring goals.

Annoying. That record belongs to Dixie Dean, not Shearer. And Shearer's 'record' has been bettered 30+ times in the top flight.

Besides which, In the 'PL era', Andy Cole's equalled Shearer's best tally, set it before him in fact. But yeah, even with only 38 games in the league, I could see Luis bettering it. Has anyone ever had a 'purple patch' like this in the history of the premier league?

If Madrid really want him and he continues this form until the end of the season he's not going for anything less than £60m. If he was a couple of years younger it would be even more. He's getting better all the time and his hunger on the field is incredible (arf)

Ronaldo would be in dreamland playing with him

55 goals in 88 league games for Liverpool. 5 goals in 6 FA Cup games. 4 goals in 6 League Cup matches. 4 goals in 8 European games.

All this achieved in a side that's not got anywhere close to qualifying for the CL. Imagine what sort of purple patch he'd have at somewhere like Real Madrid or Barcelona. Scary thought isn't it ?

When he does leave Liverpool, the CAF will look somewhat like this....

Wenger is really desperate to sign him. Just called him an "angel" off the pitch!

Not fooling anyone, Arsene!

I didn't realise he has 17 goals in the league this year, gee. He has an excellent chance to break the goalscoring record if he doesn't do something stupid (It's Suarez though, he is bound to).

It's hard to put a value on him as i would have him worth more than Bale but i don't think any player can justify a fee like 80m unless they are Ronaldo and Messi who are still quite a stretch ahead of the rest.

17 goals in the league already is a ridiculous return. Some strikers would cry out of joy if they achieved it by the end of the season.

The jump already to everyone else in the league is pretty funny.

Suarez - 17
Aguero - 13
Sturridge - 9
Rest of them.

He's 8/9/10 goals in front of players you'd expect to be up there already (bar Aguero). Quite ridiculous indeed.

He won't keep up this crazy rate but that doesn't mean he won't still score lots of goals. He should aim at something between 35-40 goals in the league.
