What has actually happened to Joe Hart?

De Gea and Krull are competing for PL supremacy i'd say.

I've heard a few in Chelsea circles airing concerns about Cech this season, he hasn't been the reliable presence of old in recent months.

He hasn't been a reliable presence since the injury.

Being dropped will be the best thing that happened to him.

Begovic is the bar standard in the prem, he's an absolute monster of a keeper, pity he plays for stoke so doesn't get much recognition.

What are you on about? Begovic got huge recognition last season, to the point where all the papers were harping on about us & City buying him to replace DDG and Hart respectively.

The fact that someone can rate 8 keepers ahead of him in the league should tell you all you need to know.

On the one hand Begovic lacks the prominence due to his club like De Gea and Mignolet, and on the other he isn't part of driving his team to greater heights as is the case with Krull and to a lesser extent Howard. Neither should lave his actual talent in question though.

Credit to him for showing good form after being benched by Pellegrini, but he's made two big errors now (against Liverpool and Sunderland). He gets beaten at his near post far too easily at times. Of course, Manchester City's defence has been mediocre for large parts of the season IMO, but his positioning really needs to be worked on.

I think too much is expected of Hart. He's a good 'keeper, not a great one, he has proven as much. City may well replace him one day, if a top quality 'keeper was to become available, it isn't priority though.

He walked out into no man's land for Skrtels goal like a headless chicken and rushed back onto his line when he realised he wasn't getting to the cross, Kompany (rightly) got the blame but Hart still made it easy. Same again today for Wickhams first goal comes out for the cross and ends up leaving an open goal instead of staying on his line and moving across to block any attempt. The longer he stays at City the better he's one of their only weak links.

I tweeted about his positioning earlier when watching the game. Incredible that he left Wickham almost two yards to aim for on his near post for their second goal.

Huge negligence for a supposed top 'keeper. I was also chatting to a City-supporting mate of mine at football last night and he was ranting about Hart's performance against Liverpool on Sunday. He couldn't believe his decision-making for Sterling's goal, which we as neutrals were all too aware of anyway.

He's not a top 'keeper though, I think most would recognise this. A good goalkeeper nonetheless.

He's a good keeper.

Not a great one.

Great keepers don't consistently make 10+ errors a season.

How many has De Gea made this season?

What did Hart do wrong for Sterling's goal?

Hart was never anything more than a good keeper. The English hype machine bigger him up, that's all.

I'd put Begovic in my top three, the I the two being De Gea and Mignolet. But the distance between De Gea and everyone else in the league is staggering.

When City last won the title I felt he was comfortably the best 'keeper in the league, he started to believe his own hype and other goalkeeper's progressed while he stagnated and probably even weakened.

This is probably true. He just hasn't progressed as he should have.

Begovic is mistake prone, a keeper for MOTD. Watch him closely, he is nothing special. I agree De Gea is the best but there is minimal difference between him and Cech.

I always feel English goalkeeper's are only one national team mistake away from a collapsed career.

Sunderland in the League Cup is the only one that comes to mind.

Only other one I can think of was in the CL against Bayer Leverkusen at home when he came for a corner and got nowhere near it. Incredibly consistent keeper. Amazing that some supporters of other clubs still have this notion that he is an error prone goalkeeper based on lazy journalism and his first few months at the club.

He's looked dodgy and a bit careless in the last two games, particularly against Liverpool. Couldn't have come at a worse time for City either.

Hart hasn't been the same since 2011-12, or rather he's failed to progress as keepers like De Gea have. Between this season and last season, he's made way more mistakes than he should be making. Still a good keeper though.

I think Hart had to come off his line for Sterling's goal, it looked like he was clean through for a one on one but Kompany managed to get back goal side, which left him blocking Hart's view. It was too late to retreat back to his line also.

Think it's harsh to give him too much stick for that one, was just a great dummy by Sterling.

He's going to make a mistake during the World Cup if he keeps playing like this. It will be funny to the media reaction to it.

Hart's a top class keeper, he's easily up there with our own DDG

He was totally stranded, neither pressuring the ball nor covering his goal.

Is this because you've not seen the incident, or because you didn't think he was at fault?

I saw it. The way I saw it, Kompany got in his way from coming out. He was well positioned to block a finish from where Sterling was stood until he made a turn to the right. From there, hart was pretty much as sold as any keeper in a one on one where the attacker takes it away from the keeper.

I've never got the impression that Kompany and Hart have ever had a great level of communication between themselves.

There's been a few times where Kompany's got in his way or Hart has gone for a ball that he should have left for Kompany instead over the past couple of seasons.
