What has actually happened to Joe Hart?

Watching The Sunday Supplement this morning and am I the only one who thinks the bias towards Joe Hart is excessive? Not only on this programme, but in the media in general, however they have led the way on the past two shows.

I know it's an easy comparison but I don't remember anyone arguing Fergie shouldn't have opted for Lindegaard when De Gea's form wasn't at its best at the start of last season and we dropped/rotated keepers for a few months. If anything they were happy to promote the "flaps at crosses" "good shot stopper but error prone" etc narrative.

Now it's Hart however and they're pushing the idea that Pellegrini has handled it terribly apparently. I saw the stats this season for Hart vs Pantillimon somewhere and if you don't have an England bias it's clear to see dropping a Hart isn't as outrageous as they're making out.
Hart is English. The bias has a lot to do with England's prospects at the World Cup. Unlike Spain England have no adequate back up options. They can't afford to go to Brazil with their main goalie out of form, unfit and lacking confidence. They want Pellegrini to pick him so he can play himself back to form.

The special pleading from journos and others for Hart is ridiculous - professional players, with all their vast footballing experience, shouldn't really suffer from major confidence issues (IMO), let alone have their mates publicly speaking for them. First sign of a mistake from Trampoline or whatever his name is, and they'll be on his back.

I'm fully aware of why they want him playing and I mentioned the England bias in my post, but the way they're going about it is pathetic. They make out he's done nothing wrong and paint it as some gross injustice and suggest Pellegrini is clueless on the matter.

Yeah I can just imagine the outrage they'll create. Watching the England game in the week and the commentators tried to make out every time he touched the ball it was some world class save. It's so OTT.

Hes guilty of the same thing a lot of the "golden" generation of England footballers were guilty of. Being chummy with various sections of the press in return for favourable coverage. Cole, Terry, Lampard, Gerrard, Barry and Milner all in that camp.

I think you'd find it hard to find a player with a WORSE relationship with the press than Cole. Barry and Milner are pretty bizarre inclusions too. Neither covert much media attention one way or the other.

Schmeichel is pretty much saying Joe Hart is undroppable.

"unfairly treated"

It really is bizarre how the media have completely spun this situation on its head over the past week or so. Pellegrini is getting criticism for dropping a player that is costing his team goals. How dare he! :wenger:

Overrated like most english players

Yep agree been saying for a season or two now Hart is a very average keeper but cause he's English he gets overhyped and it ends up with Hart looking stupid again and again.

I fully agree with what Schmeichel is saying.

Obviously Joe Hart has had some 'Reina' performances, but from Harts perspective, he has lost his managers confidence, which will make him worse.

You don't drop your keeper unless you're basically done with him.

It's crazy. Just because he's England number 1 though, I guess every media outlet are shitting themselves since it's world cup year.

erm, de Gea?

Mancini was going to sell Hart if what David Platt said was true.

Schmeichel is a buffoon. Souness was right, you have to give your no.2 a shot and be fair. Otherwise your no.1 could make a mistake every single match and know he's in the next game no matter what happens.

It's near impossible for Hart to get any worse and the keep-him-in-the-team-despite-his-months-of-feck-ups method has been tried and failed.

Some might say thats not a bad thing.

But if by that you mean the keeper doesnt give a crap, then its time to get rid.

So Big Joe is back in goal I take it! Because I tuned into talksport this morning with the radio host sarcastically saying is there anyway Joe Hart will be blamed for Kompanys own goal. Then I flicked over to 5 live and their co host with Savage saying they had a GK problem but now Hart is back! Wtf are they burying their head in the sand Joe Hart was the problem as he was making mistake after mistake! Why is the media hanging out hus arse? Nobodies fault but Joes as he was playing shit no conspiracy no hidden agenda just poor goal keeping!

It's the same reason why the media is full of ex-pros on the "give the Spurs job to Sherwood" despite being hilariously under-qualified for it. It's jobs for the boys.

Much like De Gea, he needed to be dropped. It will do him good long term.

Green on five live made some silly comments along the lines of Hart needs to start showing the form of an England number 1 as you need him for the world cup as England don't have any other options. His co commentator then said what if he doesn't show the form or gets injured. I think Ben and Frazer Foster are both very decent options for England as is Ruddy. Can't understand why some feel England are hugely dependent on Hart. He did well today though.

Because if he reaches his peak form there isn't anyone near his quality. He hasn't been there for well over a year now. But he is still young, so he has time on his side. Interested by the "qualify of an England no. 1" comment. Not like England have had a solid goalkeeper for a while so I don't know what they make as England no. 1 quality lol.

Yeah my phrasing wasnt the best yeah you guys got what I meant ;) Its kinda like an ego downer where you have to work harder to prove yourself. I think it will do him wonders for long term as he knows he cant screw around whereas under Mancini, Hart was pretty much undroppable. It helped Pelligrini that Panti did well when he came in initially.

Great performance today. That save from Ward's shot was world class. Obviously he still needs to improve, but he's done well since he's returned to the first team.

He seems to have responded really well since coming back into the team and say what we want he is still one of the best in the PL. That was a horrific injury, though it could have been a lot worse.

No he isn't there are at least half a dozen better GKs than him over the last 2 years.
