What do we still need? Aka The never ending story

Apparently Gundogan is available, and personally I would be all over it despite his age. He can rotate with Mainoo, Ugarte or even Bruno. Fantastic midfielder who can do a Modric and keep going for many years. He showed no sign of regression and played 36 games in La Liga last season. One of my favorite midfielders and would love to see him in a United shirt.

Certain he returns to City if leaving Barca

Nah, signing him wouldn’t fit the profiles that Ineos seems to be targeting, i.e. really young, or young enough and on the cusp of hitting prime. This would be like signing Bastian all over again. Not sure if the (elusive) short term benefits is worth the risk.

Come on, only Ugarte and one ball playing midfielder needed!

Won't sign a ball playing CM now McTominay is staying, selling Eriksen wouldn't raise enough. Scrap that we might if there is a genuine opportunity to sign Ugarte on loan with obligation to buy. Although reports say we would most likely prioritise a LB

I hope we get Ugarte and I would be all right with Ben Chillwell on a loan. Left Back will need some cover and his profile is very similar to Shaw's. A loan protects us in the event he gets hurt, and bearing in mind Chillwell is still 27. I think it would allow us to integrate Amass easily and also eventually transition Shaw to CB.

Jury is still out on all of our wingers bar maybe Garnacho.
We were interested in Olise, and I still think we need a top class goalscoring winger, but it looks a bridge too far this window.
But fingers crossed Garnacho and Amad can continue to improve and have big impacts.

I wonder if we're planning to replace Sancho if we end up selling him.

Unlikely, but damn I wish we had kept Pellistri and were able to sell both Sancho and Antony even if for only 30m each. But with Pellistri inevitably leaving us and no buyers stepping up for Antony we're probably set for our wide men.

We seem to have the numbers but I'm a bit worried about our options. The only reliable player we have currently is Garnacho. Antony is basically done, Rashford had a horrific last season, and we seem to be banking a lot on Amad coming through for us. I'm optimistic about Amad but I feel that we need to add more competition there. I wouldn't be surprised if Mount ends up out wide.

We desperately need Ugarte regardless of outgoings, and probably another midfielder additionally
I agree, but dont think its gonna happen. My guess is club would like to sell Eriksen, but dont have any takers. And if we can manage to sell McT, we will get a #6.

---Casemiro/McT---Mainoo/Eriksen
-----------------Bruno/Mount

We already have 6 midfielders+Collyer. Dont think Ugarte is happening unless we manage to sell McTominay(as Eriksen going wont raise much/any funds). If Eriksen goes as well, we might get Rabiot, but I would rather keep Eriksen for another year and get a proper ball playing CM next year.

If Sancho is sold I'd love it if we did go for someone like Guler. Another signing that would fit this summer's model of signing big players like De Ligt/Ugarte who just didn't make the cut at other huge clubs but still make us better right now. Amad, Guler and Antony for the right wing would be more than enough this season.

It would be a shame not to capitalise on Real Madrid maybe having too much talent in attack, like when we didn't get Robben or Sneijder in the Ronaldo deal.

Just because they're not first choice at a huge club, it doesn't mean they can't make us better or have a long career with us.

Hopefully we can get these deals done. This is the best case scenario now, way I see it.

Outgoings :

- Lindelof
- McTominay
- Mejbri
- Sancho(loan/sell)

Incomings :

- Ugarte

Well if we really aren't going for a LB as Whitwell is suggesting then should try and get rotational CM

Agreed on all points. But we do know that Rashford can return to his 22/23 form, but whether he does so remains to be seen. Amad has incredible promise but it's all about consistently performing when given the chance and we shall see about that. Antony and Sancho have been consistently poor.

As for Pellistri, the only thing we can say about his consistency is that he has been consistently denied a chance to perform. That could be taken as proof that Pellistri is not MUQ. On the other hand, it's undeniable that the RWs who stood ahead of Pellistri are Antony and Sancho, about whom the less said the better. Sucks for Pellistri, who does not have the athletic build of Antony and Sancho but is more productive with the ball than either. And at virtually no cost to us compared to Antony and Sancho who together required about 150m in transfer fees and say about 550k/week in wages yet are nowhere near the starting XI for United now.

100%. Would be an amazing feat to pull off. Even a loan with option/obligation to buy would be amazing if Real doesn’t want to play ball. Would Guler want to do that though? He won’t be a guaranteed starter here either, so what’s the point of switching from one bench to potentially another?

Nah our plan should be Garnacho and Amad battling for the RW and then getting Kvara for the LW long term if there's any chance.

Ugarte to complete this summer, then go all out for Wharton and Kvara next summer is the way for us.

It seems like most people are quite well satisfied with the purchases that we have made to date. I just had a quick flip through them, and it seems that we have bought people that weren't really wanted at their current teams. Unless I am mistaken we haven't nicked anybody's major stars. Is this correct ? If so, is this how you expect Manchester United to recruit ? i.e. other clubs' cast offs. I realise that de Bruyne wasn't wanted by Chelsea so it's not always a bad thing. Arsenal went and got West Ham's 'best player' that they specifically wanted. Years ago we went and got RvP from Arsenal kind of against their will - but it seems that at the moment we are shopping at other people's jumble sales.

Yoro and Zirkzee were "wanted", De Ligt, Ugarte and Mazraoui were bad fits at their clubs (or a wage issue) but very good players. No need to complain for no reason. Our signings this summer for once have been perfect and addressed all we need to.

You're just wumming. How are Zirkzee and Yoro castoffs?

Is there a scenario going for players like Carlos Baleba /Gourna Douath for DM Position next year or you does not expect that?

And Eze? No place for him in the Team for next summer I guess?

Saudi pro league, Turkish club ? But yes we won’t find anyone in Europe to match his wages we gave him. Unfortunately we are stuck with him for a while. Car crash of a signing.

Would love us to be in for Baleba as a Casemiro replacement next summer (assuming he does not leave this window).

Eze will be 27 next year and just isn't as good as people make out, especially when you consider how many injuries he picks up in a season.

I’d take Kieran Trippier on a one year rolling contract, only provided he takes a huge wage cut and accepts he won’t get on every game. Good backup

I am very pleased to hear that.

I looked back at our 'transfers in' over Sir Alex Ferguson's time (effectively - when we were successful)

It really struck me that barring the odd exception (like 2007) we would only sign 2 or 3 first team signings per Summer

Made me remember that feeling going into those summers thinking "Just need a CM and a backup striker and we will win the league again" - Such a far cry from now where we seem to constantly need 5+ signings each summer. And probably how city feel each Summer now, just needing the odd refreshment and tweak.

Confident we will be there again by the end of 2020's, where we won't constantly feel like we need overhauls.

Would you buy Antony ?

Who on earth would ?

No one would buy Antony and I seriously doubt anyone would take him on a free transfer either. I’m only making the point that we would be better off without Sancho and Antony but keeping Pellistri, but we’re stuck with who we have.

He would be a massive Upgrade to Mount and is flexible in positions.
And 27 is not really old …..

I would love to have us to have put in a bit for İlkay Gündoğan and see what happened. I know he's no spring chicken but he is class

Other than players who else have we brought in and who have we let go in non-playing positions ? In what roles ? And who are they ? Where did they come from.

I know that we have Omar Berrada as the new CEO, he came from City. Dean Ashworth joined us, from Newcastle, as Sporting Director ?

I no longer see the bloke who looked like Ten Hag, bald head and beard on the bench.

It looks like Benni McCarthy has been replaced by Ruud v N as forwards coach.

What's the full list of comings and goings ? Including fitness people, data analysts, set piece people, specialist position coaches, dietitians and so on?

Raheem Sterling and Chelsea fallout escalates in club's latest brutal move
The drama surrounding Raheem Sterling’s Chelsea future has escalated after the club took the No.7 shirt away from him. Sterling has been told privately and publicly by Enzo Maresca that he is not wanted at Stamford Bridge, with the England international one of several players exiled from first-team training. Sterling’s agents had previously released a statement asking for ‘clarity’ on the forward’s future after he was surprisingly excluded from the matchday squad to face Manchester City last Sunday (Picture: Getty)

For the right money I would have him in our squad. Probably as a sub option.

I also know it won't happen and wouldn't be popular.

He wouldn't be a 'massive' upgrade at all. He's better at some things, not at others, and I'd argue he's not as suited to being a squad player for several positions as Mount is. He's certainly got more flair than Mount, but he's far more of an individual than a team player.

And no 27 is not that old, but his contract runs until 2027. There were rumours there's a release clause but it's meant to be at least £60m. He'd want big wages and a 5 year contract, minimum. You're signing him at a point when he might already start to lose a step, especially if he has any more muscle injuries.

It would just be a pointless signing. Basically like signing Mount again. Good player, but doesn't really fit anywhere. Better off spending the money on a new LB and upgrading CM.

Olise was the player we should have gone for, but that ship has sailed.
