Westminster Politics

Oh yes and another £50 million has been promised by our new Home Secretary. Talk about being stitched up by Rwanda.
With the distinct possibility that it will all be for nothing.

If it's all for nothing that will be the best case scenario at this point. It will only increase the legal and administrative costs, reputational harm, levels of immorality and economic self harm should they actually manage to finally deport some poor fecker.

What uncontrolled immigration?

Since Brexit the UK Government has had full control of legal immigration, as for illegal immigration they have a degree of control over that as well, they could provide the necessary resources to prevent much of it and actually process and deport the ones that don't have a right to entry
Clearly my sarcasm was misplaced.

Imagine being in that 22% though and thinking "yes we need some more of this" :wenger:

Well 11% are voting for the Brexit party led by some failed actor according to that poll so...a third of the country are brain-dead?

Imagine being in that 22% though and thinking "yes we need some more of this" :wenger:
If you look at the Telegraph comment sections, they're all raging about 'illegals', hate 'Soon-axed' and are deadset on voting reform to get some 'real conservatives in'.

I spoke with some family members who are staunchly conservative. I did not delve too deep into their reasons because I am close with them and did not want to end up in an argument, but basically it's an amalgamation of them (A) Viewing "woke" as one of the most pressing issues and the Tories being the only ones willing to "stand up to it" (B) Viewing "migrants" and "the boats" as the biggest issue facing the country right now (C) Believing that labor are far worse than the conservatives on any issue.

I strongly suspect that C is just a bit of a cover up, and they've just tunnel visioned themselves into viewing A and B as the most important issues and the only ones worth voting on.

Because there's nothing obviously wrong with their lives and yet they've still got a nagging sense that all is not quite as it should be and somehow they're getting screwed. Which they are because they keep voting for knobheads.

If that does happen and I would be surprised if the Labour majority was quite as big as that, it would be no more than what the Tories deserve after completely thrashing the UK. The country is pretty much as broken as I can ever remember. But it is not going to be that easy for Labour to turn it round because of the awful mess.

Feels a bit April 1st, but the Mail claims there's a plan to oust Sunak and bring back Johnson. Could involve installing Patel as caretaker PM while he seeks a safe seat for re-election.
Outside bet talk of Farage pact, but hopefully just the DM talking bollocks as usual, although the advent calendar of shit was vaguely amusing.

This is what any competent government should be addressing.
The massive divide in the UK between the so called haves and have-nots.
And the gap is growing rapidly to those of the Victorian times when we used to send little boys up chimneys to clean them and poor people were sent to workhouses.

Something to be proud of.

They are absolutely addressing it though. Why do you think it’s accelerated over the last 13 years?

Was watching some of James O'brien's latest coverage of the Rwanda stuff. Has labour been pushing the idea that all the money for Rwanda could've gone into immigration staff hiring to process claims? It seems like the entire coverage is about how awful the waste and stupidity of the policy is, but is any alternate viewpoint getting a run in the media?

They are addressing it, just not in the way that most people would want.

Well well well....

Michelle Mone: Conservative peer breaks silence over PPE Covid contracts scandal

"Lady Mone has been accused of profiting from the firm winning contracts to supply surgical gowns and masks, worth £200m, after she recommended it to ministers in the early days of the pandemic. Her husband was the chairman and leader of the consortium.

Asked if she had benefited in any way from PPE Medpro money, either directly or indirectly, Lady Mone said: "Look, my husband's an entrepreneur. There were many entrepreneurs involved in PPE, supplying PPE.

"What my husband decides to do after the event, and who benefits from that, is at his discretion. I am his wife and I may indirectly benefit, but that's just like all other families around that are married. That's just it. That is not my money. I don't have that money. It's not my money.""

Nothing dodgy there at all I'd say.

I like how she says she regrets not being transparent, when what she actually did was lie and say she had no ties to the firm.

Yes exactly. It was nothing to do with transparency.
It was a downright lie. One of many by the Tories.

And anyway, not knowing a law doesnt exempt you from the penalti to break it

Also, i always like the expression "i am sorry [insert whatever had been done]". No, she is sorry she got caught

What are the odds of her of being punsihes

Wes Streeting says NHS uses winter crisis as excuse to ask for more money
Shadow minister tells health service ‘money is tight’ and that it must provide better value for taxpayers

The shadow health secretary has accused the NHS of using every winter crisis and challenge it faces as an excuse to ask for more money.

Speaking on a visit to Singapore, Wes Streeting said the health service needs to accept “money is tight”, and that it must rethink how the care it provides could provide better value for money for the taxpayer.

“I think people working in the NHS and the patients using the NHS can see examples of waste and inefficiency,” he told the Sunday Times. “I don’t think it’s good enough that the NHS uses every winter crisis and every challenge it faces as an excuse to ask for more money.”

He added: “The NHS is going to have to get used to the fact that money is tight and it’s going to have to get used to switching spend, and rethinking where and how care is delivered to deliver better outcomes for patients and better value for taxpayers’ money. At the moment, I think we get the worst of all worlds, which is poor outcomes alongside poor value for taxpayers.

I mean, is it even a surprise any more?

Whats the matter? He is saying very smart things. To get more value from the money given? Who would have thought that it could be done? All these years wasting money. Very smart

I think if you read the full interview what he says is fine (if maybe easier said than done). So many areas need rebuilding after 13 years of Tory misrule there won't be much money around.
I normally think the guy sounds like a petulant bell too.

Getting the excuses in early.

Labour is full of useless cnuts. I wouldn't trust Wes Streeting running tuck shop, let alone the NHS. At least he might give it a go rather than a Tory intentionally sabotaging it. What choices we have!

Thought this was interesting. We always ask ourselves the question - how did we get ourselves into this mess (as a country)?

Is the situation partly, the winners are more determined to stay winners than the losers are to stop being made losers?
It's been happening worldwide for decades.

Rising inequality and declining labor share of income: Reversal under tight labor markets? For decades, inequality rose and the labor share of income declined.7 This has reduced consumption by channeling a disproportionate share of value creation to the wealthy, who tend to save more than the population overall.8 Rising saving by the wealthy has bid up prices for assets, particularly those with expected higher returns. At the same time, corporate earnings have grown rapidly, particularly in the United States, driving equity valuations and thus balance sheet growth further.

I genuinely don't understand how Scotland can still be so pro SNP when they've fecked so much up.

What's the alternative though? If I was Scottish a bad Scottish party would still be better than another English stooge.

Call me crazy but I'm ready to roll the dice with Labour again, but that might be because I used to vote for them as well. After the ferry gaffes, motorhomegate (or whatever the feck it was called) and seeing first hand how our education system has been destroyed I'm pretty much done.

If they feck this up it will be very funny

I know FPTP gets a lot of stick from the attacking the Tories side (rightly) but it is also so ridiculous and such a failure of the system that the Greens could get more than double the number of SNP votes and get 1/27 of the representation.
