'Protest' and 'Remembrance' are not the same thing.*

The protest was on armistice day.

Yeah, I thought a demonstration in favour of peace on Armistice Day made perfect sense. The vast majority of people were there in peace and a lot of them wore poppies and observed the silence. Police were OK with it I don't see what the problem was.

That's the whole point, the protest was not being prohibted, the Police had already said they were allowing it. The onus was on the organisers, to garner even further support amongst the general public, by either offering to move to another weekend or turning the protest into a silent vigil, without banners, without chants, etc.which would have been more in keeping with the mood and theme of Remembrance.

Can't help feeling the organisers missed an opportunity this weekend to get their message across to a range of people amongst the general public who otherwise would have not even noticed their protest, and at the same time by their lack of foresight have opened the door to others who want to demonise what they are calling for.... the government is off the hook!
Do you think they should have done focus groups with middle Englanders to find out which version of calling for a ceasefire was most palatable to them first? One where all elements of protest have been replaced with quietly doing nothing instead, presumably?

I don't think there's any chance of frottage being the Tory leader, nor do I think he even wants it (as much he allegedly claims he does).

The man built his reputation and cult following as a dissenting showman on the fringes of politics. Its why he bailed the moment the Brexit vote concluded and left the mess to others. He hasn't a clue on how to actually govern and I think he himself knows it. Can't risk exposing himself. Its why he's carrying on the circus chomping on monkey bollocks in Australia.

I think if there had not been a 'protest' march planned this weekend then the idiots at the cenotaph would not have had an excuse to turn up with their version of protest, which is always violent, and could have been predicted as accurately as the sun rise.

People who believe the UK government should call for a full ceasefire in Gaza have every right to organise and take part in a Protest March, in the country's capital city, I just feel it would have been more effective for the protest's cause to have deferred for this weekend.

*see above... no 'mental gymnastics' needed, just common sense.
Yes, who would protest for an armistice near Armistice day. Its just not in the spirit of things.

Beginning of the end for Sunak

Its also inadvertently placed the blame for the weekends events firmly at his government’s feet. Quite bad politics really. He should have given her a warning privately and sacked her immediately next chance.

She should never have been allowed back after her first sacking, the vile toxic bitch. Can they ship her off to Rwanda?

Nah he showed belated balls sacking her. It would have been worse for him to keep her on.

Not sure it’s ballsy to do it so late. At this point he would have had more respect from me if he kept her and made her eat shit

Don't think she eats shit by keeping her. She had influence of her position to do more damage if she stayed.

Putting competence or incompetence aside, I think Sunak is one of the few tories who genuinely wants to make a positive impact and he knows the damage she's doing in an influencial role is doing more harm on the nation.

I also believe this idealistic criticism that he should never have had her in the cabinet in the first place is just fairy tale thinking. He needed some of the right wingers if he had to unite the party. She was his ticket to do that, at least until it got untenable.

Brilliant news to wake up to. She’s an odious shitstain.

Only problem is she’ll be back. GB News, a podcast, a column in a paper. Maybe even government again. Sad reality of it.

It's like WWE, Cameron''s music hits and JR 'byyee gawwwd, it's Camerrrron'

Bringing a remainer back in to become foreign secretary? ERG are going to be apoplectic

His policies have said otherwise, if he had any backbone, he would never have appointed her in the first place. His Government have been full of toxic stuff since he's been PM. The right wingers wanted Truss, once he got in, he should have set his own Cabinet and actually tried to improve things.

Again, incredibly idealistic if you consider the composition of his party and where they lean.

Like it or lump it, his first role was to unite the party and fix inflation. That's what he set his cabinet and policy around.
