Westminster Politics

Expenses scandals were only relevant under a labour government so it doesn't matter anymore.

Never heard of that Darren Henry bloke before but you've made me look him up. Spent his life trying to get elected to any form of office across the midlands and south of England. I'm sure he has his constituents in mind when representing them.

Sunak is on Kuessenberg
Well it's a pre recorded interview as he wouldn't come on the show
Refusing to straight up answer any question

As a non-Brit, the coverage of Sunak's maths policy is terrible from the likes of the Guardian.

It is not the most optimal policy but its heart is in the right place, and this kind of pathetic coverage continues the polarization of the world where everything the other side does is derided without critical thought.

Something's wrong when this story is buried on the money section of the DM website today and only six sentences long. Surely the DM isn't losing the faith?

All set for the Brexit dividends Bill: Government wants to 'rip up EU regulations' and 'unleash opportunities' for small businesses

It's not a policy, it's a soundbite. Look at the state of the schools and education in the UK after 12 years of underfunding, it's not far behind the NHS in terms of dysfunction. They. Don't. Care.

It deserves to get hammered because it's a stupid idea that won't achieve the desired outcome. Sunak likely knows this. It's not really a policy designed to improve educational standards, it's a policy designed to pander to small-c conservatives who hate the idea of school not being utterly miserable.

Thinking critically, as a critical thinking thinker, the policy is a massive pile of shite that does nothing to fix the damage the Tories have caused to every public service in the country over the last ten years. But, sure, you keep critically thinking with your critical thinking brain and believe that this is the one-stop-shop or quick fix needed to solve all of Britain's problems.

If anything, I think this post is underly critical.

New legislation will allow the government to sack striking health staff. To which some of them will say 'fine, I'll feck off then', which considering that staff shortages are a major part of the problem means that problem will only get much worse. A lot of staff would have to work, but how many people would want to be treated by them in that situation? And the poor morale and lack of enthusiasm won't magically disappear after a strike day, once that sets in it lasts a long long time.

You're expecting clear heading thinking from this government?

Somehow they still manage to find an extra gear of stupidity. And yes, I know morale is shit now, but the way it's going that will be a whole lot worse.
Stupidity is their default gear!

And it'll get a whole lot worse strikes or no strikes IMO

One step closer to complete privatisation. That's what they want. The Tory voting plebs just don't know it yet.

Jeremy Hunt co-authored book calling for NHS to be replaced with private insurance

'Direct Democracy: An Agenda For A New Model Party' called for the 'denationalisation' of the NHS
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...et-replacement-direct-democracy-a6865306.html

A big step towards this was the Health and Social Care Act in 2012...

https://www.nhsforsale.info/impact-of-health-and-social-care-plan-over-last-5-years/#:~:text=The passing of the Health, law came in to effect.

"The passing of the Health and Social Care Act in 2012 enforced competition between the NHS, private firms and charities. The impact was immediate. Research by the Federation showed that the value of contracts won by the private sector rose by 500% In the two years after the new law came in to effect."

And half the posters in the Kier Starmer thread.

Anti-vaxers seem to have this really hard job of understanding two things:
  • The virus itself increases the risk of heart problems and this is reflected in stats.
  • Even if the vaccine does increase the risk of heart defects and that’s impacts the stats, the stats would be skewed worse in the same or other areas if the vaccines were never rolled out.

I saw this earlier. It's an utterly infuriating headline; most of the public sector and some essential services run by the private sector are striking and there's absolutely not because it's too easy to go on strike. It's the culmination of 12 years of conservative austerity and 10 months of inaction on the rising cost of living by this government.

Paying a (real) living wage and adequately funding services like the NHS will save lives.

Also the Tories still have a majority of at least 65. That headline is making it sound Labour votes are needed to pass the law.

Unfortunately there is only one real way for the public to get a Government entrenched in it's policies against the majority will of the people, I'm not condoning this, just naking an obeservation - see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poll_tax_riots

Just playing Devil’s Advocate here, and the Tories are indeed putting this fascistic anti-strike laws in, whilst not infringing on a right to strike (apparently) as it’s a ‘life-saving’ law that’s vitally needed, why the feck did it take them 13yrs to come up with it?

A cynic could suggest they’re making it all up as they go along.
