My fixed mortgage deal ends at the end of April ‘23. Looks like I’m going to be looking at 6-7% interest rate :(

Ah shit, I'm sorry to hear that. Stuff like that just makes me even more angry at the Tories.

It's fine for them to gamble, it's not their money and they have a safety net whatever happens. It's us lot that get fecked over.

You can get a mortgage in principle usually 6 months before the fixed rate is up. Speak to a mortgage broker asap and they may be able to lock it in for you in November. We were in the process of doing it before we decided to move house. Now that’s looking like a bad idea.

Some people within the black community, believe having certain traits and behaviours makes you less black.

Pretty certain its the same in other ethnic minorities in the UK too.

You really are going to have to explain what you mean by that.

I live in a Labour town, and it's fecked.

Feck Labour. Feck tories. We need a reset.

What’s gone wrong in your town?

I’m going to assume poor public services, lack of housing stock, empty shops etc. the same things effecting most towns regardless of local government.

Exactly. Time for a reset. Labour isn't the answer. Never was.

You still haven’t told us what the answer is though? Definitely not Labour, so more of this Tory government?

But these are national issues, happening in all areas. I lived in a Lib Dem area up to last month. Guess what…poor housing stock, stretched NHS, horrendous public transport.

I now live in a Tory constituency. All of the above are still relevant. It’s central government you should be blaming.

In what way can be people be less black than they were previously?

I imagine it’s similar to the ideology behind Black slave owners. If you’re from a minority background and have only succeeded by affirming and reinforcing the system that continually discriminates against minorities, rather than succeeding via breaking down barriers and bringing about change, then some question the point of your success.

Along the lines of Priti Patel, the suggestion being she became Home Secretary so that people couldn’t say that her policies were racist.

A larger scale version of ‘my best friend is Black’.

I’m in August 23 :(.

Sadly it’s too late to go down this route really. The fixed rate already price in anticipated rate hikes, and some, if fixed rates are even still being offered. It’s that point where you’re just at the mercy of policy.

We are fecked though. Significant inflationary pressure. Yet also an underperforming economy. It’s a very rare economic position to be in. The truth is we fecked up because we had a paralysed government whilst the Tories had their fecking election. Being slow to deal with energy costs has caused high inflation across the spectrum because businesses inevitably price up all their services and products to the next person. It was pivotal to deal with that quickly and we failed.

And worse is to come. Looking at the GDP and HPI forecasts, it is fecking grim.

Yeah but that's not fully clear from his post. I'm getting a hint of a pejorative but I'm not sure where it is.

Which is….

Don't even know where to begin with this because you're trying insinuate an issue when theres not.

I agreed with @africanspurs comments about the underlying issues with comments like huqs. Essentially stereotyping what it is to be black. It's something I've also experienced and seen myself within the black community, where for example being well spoken was seen as being less black. This is a thing, ive literally experienced it myself multiple times, and I've seen it with other black people and I'm sure other black people on the caf can testify. It's problematic, and an issue within the community.

Now in terms of kwasi, I don't seem him as a representative of Black people, black causes or black issues. In a cabinet that's meant to be the most diverse ever, what's the point if your policies aren't going to help diverse demographics? That in itself is superficial.

If a black guy said to me, he doesn't care for black issues/triumps or black community, then by definition that's superficial. I don't look at kwasi and see someone who cares for either, I've not said he's not a black man but by definition that's superficial, he's black in appearance but doesn't care for how his policies effect the working class where a large portion is black. The fact that kwasi is a well educated black man in a position of power, and does nothing for the community reinforces those negative stereotypes about what it is to be black.

Rupa huq should have kept her mouth shut but I know exactly what she meant and should have done better explaining herself.

Is there anything more annoying in this thread than those who vote Tory but dance around it by disingenuously saying "they're all as bad as each other"? Just own it and back up what you're saying.

 Completely agree.

It's like they know it's wrong to be voting Tory but they do it anyway.

It'd be infinitely more interesting if they just owned it and politely backed up what they said, I'd actually like to learn something from that side of the divide, and it's not like people (maybe except for the poster that went on the tory scum rant a few pages back ) can't have a polite conversation.

All this stupid dancing around "labour crashed the economy 15 years ago" etc is so boring, at least tell us what the tories actually bring to the table.
