Official Civil Service account:
It's almost as easy to return a knighthood as it is to not bow in front of jug ears for it in the first place.
It's simultaneously the highest honour in the country and a slight. What a world. It’s the highest honour a person can receive in this country so there’s no reason for him to return it. It’s recognition for his service to the public. Your republican fantasies are a minority position in this country so trying to slight him by calling him Sir is pretty useless.

A UK Government spokesman said: "An unauthorised tweet was posted on a Government channel this evening.
"The post has been removed and we are investigating the matter."
Well, all I can think is that Cummings has so much dirt on the Government that if he's sacked, or pushed out, or forced to resign, he'll spill goodness knows what, which will destroy reputations.
He's already shown himself to be totally unscrupulous and not to give a flying feck, he'd probably enjoy it and look forward to huge sales of his sordid memoirs.
They managed to shut JRM up, because they thought, quite rightly, that he was damaging the image of the party, but they are incapable of controlling this absolute fecking cnut of a man. (I think that's the technical term.)
He's only an advisor on paper, in the real world he is the Evil Emperor and Boris is Darth Vader (a fat small donkey looking motherfecker version)The true relationship needs to be unearthed. I cannot believe a PM would sacrifice his availability for a mere advisor.
A fringe minority that includes both me and the bloke who doesn't like being called it, but not enough to turn it down or return it.A slight in the eyes of a fringe minority to which you belong. The Express and Mail might deride him as a champagne socialist but they preach to a choir. I think the majority in the UK believe in aspiration so Kier shouldn’t shy away from the fact he came from a humble background to reach the top of society through hard work. It’s a narrative that will resonate with the majority, in my opinion.

Whereas bowing in front of a man, deemed your superior at birth because of how magical his parents' genitals are, to accept it...He doesn’t like being referred to as Sir because it comes across as too deferential. Plenty of people accept the honour but don’t use the title. I don’t see a conflict in accepting the honour but not wanting to use the title in everyday life, none at all.

I've not followed the news for an hour, and on reading this thread my first thought was to agree with you, but then I've looked at the BBC and Sky online and there's feck all about Starmer. Going back through the thread it looks like all he's done is made a short tweet which has had and will have little impact. He should have had a press briefing and put forward his thoughts a lot more effectively than that. He should have made a call that would be headline news, not just made some insignificant tweet.Waiting until the PM had refused to act was a smart move.
I'm not sure, I get the impression the journalists won't back down. The public's backs are probably going to be up.If you believe that you are deluded. Cummings will stay. It will all be forgotten.

My guess would be a hacked account. Rogue employee would look extremely bad.Are they going with the rouge employee or hacked as the excuse?
I cannot ever recall a time where public outrage has been so united in contempt for the government. Yesterday I felt Cummings would survive because eventually apathy sets in but I'm beginning to sense a serious zeal for some kind of repercussions from this fallout. We have still not even had an apology. People have made sacrifices and they are being treated like mugs in a manner that transcends political allegiances. Of course, more Tories will be willing to turn a blind eye, but it's cutting across the political divide to a significant extent.

Youd imagine that castle would have something wouldnt it?Surely footage like CCTV can be pulled up if a police investigation is launched. If he was spoken to and broken the rules again, and on multiple occasions, then he has committed a crime has he not?
A staged response, as in by stages? Could be yes, I hope so anyway. I'm not anti-Starmer, I've an open mind on him, I hope he does well. The question is how much and when he wants to put himself in the middle of the discussion. As it stands Boris will be already be all over the frontpage of tomorrow's papers defending Cummings, which is undoubtedly going to be an unpopular position. Although he certainly had to respond to the PM today, I'm not necessarily sure he'd want to change the current headlines in the slightest.

Don't make the mistake of trusting the police.
