Westminster Politics

Johnson has lived his entire life acting as though rules apply only to other people. I can’t say I am surprised by his brazen attitude over Cummings.

Boris seems like an empty vessel with all the ambition in the world. No wonder he can't spare a policy advisor like Cummings from his orbit.

Very good questions from the BBC. Dreadful response from Boris, not backing his ‘palpably untrue’ line anymore.

This is an absolute shit show for Boris. The media have the bit between their teeth and I think it’s going to be a while before this blows over.

If he does eventually get the boot they could have saved a lot of damage.

I can't help but think of all the things I've given up over the past two months that I wanted to do, how shit my mental health has been, and how lucky I have been compared to some people. And these fecking cnuts have been doing this.

I'm so, so fecking angry.

Boris has been absolutely dreadful here. Will be fascinating if his poll ratings drop after this. Feels like a ‘moment’.

The fecker is on the ropes, just waiting for someone to land a KO on him now.

He has shown us again that he’s hopeless without his mates cheering in the background.

Watching this press conference and I can’t believe what Boris is saying. It’s surreal. You actually voted this man PM?!?!

This is turning into a comedy at this point.

"if you have symptoms you should self isolate for 14 days, that's what Mr. Cummings and his family did"

 Jesus Christ

He‘s cut that seriously short hasn’t he?!

Cummings is going nowhere. This will blow over and be forgotten because we need to get brexit done (tm).

When you see what Trump has gotten away with this is really small potatoes. They don't give a feck.

What are you gonna do about it anyway?

All depends on how many leavers can get separate their emotional gratification for BrExit and with their rage for flouting lockdown rules.

I think there will be enough for a massive majority to hate Cummings for this.

Who and how will he be removed?

With no Brexit to unite them, the Tory party will begin to bicker and pull in different directions once Brexit is no longer the focus of all discussions.

Crazy argument from Johnson that. The “fathers instinct” line implies that a) he did break the rules and so undermines his own argument that he didn’t and b) implies all parents who let their kids have a hard time by following the rules are bad parents. Bizarre decision to run with that. Labour must be delighted, this looks like it’ll run til PMQs.

Fecking hypocrites, can't say I'm surprised.

Unfortunately, no PMQs this week.

And whilst the Cummings story dominates, the care home crisis and the tragic death toll just becomes a footnote in the media headlines

The press were woefully unprepared for this briefing. Fairly crap questions, not concise enough.

Peston is a fecking shambles.
