What planet are you living on? Have you never heard of the Balfour declaration or the Haavara agreement? Israel is not a product of WW2.
 
Need to see the budget, but despite their protestations, it sure does look like back to 2011 and riding the osbourne express to austerity again.

Historically, austerity has always led to recession, but its not a mistake.
Austerity is designed to suck money out of the economy and into assets, which makes rich people richer and poor people poorer.

When that happens this time, it is not a mistake. It is the reason they did it.

 
Securing the lease for the bases sounds a sensible compromise, but it's getting the predicted response in certain quarters, where the empire is still mourned. The 'closing down a dangerous migration route to the UK' line from Labour is total BS though.

The State of Israel was formed in 1948, 2 years or so after WW2. By the adoption of UN resolution 181(Partition Resolution). Confirmed by many countries, promoted by the then big 3; US, UK, Soviet Union

The Balfour declaration was in 1917 and was recognised as the beginning of a search for a national home for Jews.

The Haavara agreement was in 1933 and was a secret agreement with the Nazi regime, by the Jewish Agency, (and that Zionists agreed with) as a means of attracting Jews to Palestine, and rescuing them from Nazi Germany.

Thing is there is no black hole, and the black hole they are claiming could easily be plugged in a multitude of ways that would have little impact. So the constant talk of tax rises and budget cuts make me think they're planning a massive spending spree somewhere.

I think theyve only agreed to this because much of the military activity has moved away from Diego Garcia, but it is still a hugely important location strategically. I don't think they will ever fully release control.

The migration nonsense is because some asylum seekers got lost and washed up there a few years ago.

Yes, of course, but Israel was not finally established as a State until (UN. Res 181) in 1948 2 years after WW2.

My original post was answering a query from another poster as to why Britain should be supporting Israel now.

The answer being the UK, via the Balfour Declaration (1917) and its mandate for Palestine (via League of Nations 1922) Britain has a long running involvement, some might say responsibility, for the establishment of a State of Israel.

As far as I am aware The UK has always been in favour of a two state solution especially following the outcomes of the six day war in 1967.
