Westminster Politics 2024-2029

She is also the genius that said in the run up to the 2019 election, that to be anti-capitalism was to be antisemitic.

Thus revealing her to be a purveyor of the 'Jews and money' tropes and possible the most antisemitic politican to walk through the doors of westminster in 50 years.

Nothing hapenned of course, she said it on a live politics show, and it was just ignored.
Yup. I was going to say that. Beyond disgusting.

After WW2 the military coalition known as the 'Allies' (and led nominally by the big 3 USA, UK, Soviet Union) decided to provide a homeland for the Jewish people and eventually nominated land in the middle-east now known as Israel. This land had been formerly part of the Ottoman territories placed under UK administration by the League of Nations (later to become the United Nations) in 1922.

In 1948 The United Nations, via Res 181 divided what had been Britain's Palestinian Mandate, into Jewish and Arab States

Britain has a responsibility and has been involved in helping to try a create Israel/Palestine states and since 1948. it has tried to broker peace. Immediately after the UN resolution established Israel as a State (but not Palestine) a number of surrounding Arab nations declared they would drive the Jews into the sea. At this point the US and UK became leaders in helping Israel to survive.
What planet are you living on? Have you never heard of the Balfour declaration or the Haavara agreement? Israel is not a product of WW2.

Need to see the budget, but despite their protestations, it sure does look like back to 2011 and riding the osbourne express to austerity again.

Historically, austerity has always led to recession, but its not a mistake.
Austerity is designed to suck money out of the economy and into assets, which makes rich people richer and poor people poorer.

When that happens this time, it is not a mistake. It is the reason they did it.

Securing the lease for the bases sounds a sensible compromise, but it's getting the predicted response in certain quarters, where the empire is still mourned. The 'closing down a dangerous migration route to the UK' line from Labour is total BS though.

The Tories really haven't learnt a thing from the election result. James not so Cleverly posting more shite then being corrected straight away. They still seem to take the public for fools and think they can just say anything. Absolute cnuts.

Obviously not the same one as you!

The State of Israel was formed in 1948, 2 years or so after WW2. By the adoption of UN resolution 181(Partition Resolution). Confirmed by many countries, promoted by the then big 3; US, UK, Soviet Union

The Balfour declaration was in 1917 and was recognised as the beginning of a search for a national home for Jews.

The Haavara agreement was in 1933 and was a secret agreement with the Nazi regime, by the Jewish Agency, (and that Zionists agreed with) as a means of attracting Jews to Palestine, and rescuing them from Nazi Germany.

The wheels were in motion long before WW2.

Thing is there is no black hole, and the black hole they are claiming could easily be plugged in a multitude of ways that would have little impact. So the constant talk of tax rises and budget cuts make me think they're planning a massive spending spree somewhere.

I think theyve only agreed to this because much of the military activity has moved away from Diego Garcia, but it is still a hugely important location strategically. I don't think they will ever fully release control.

The migration nonsense is because some asylum seekers got lost and washed up there a few years ago.

Ian Dunt was tweeting during all the Conservative speeches and it's a complete mindfeck of conspiracies and just blatant lying. The far-right's biggest strength against liberalism is this kind of unabashed, hysterical, doomsday-tinged lying. I sat there reading it and I'm left thinking "you need about 6 months to completely debunk everything they are saying", but they just move on to the next thing.

Yes, of course, but Israel was not finally established as a State until (UN. Res 181) in 1948 2 years after WW2.

My original post was answering a query from another poster as to why Britain should be supporting Israel now.

The answer being the UK, via the Balfour Declaration (1917) and its mandate for Palestine (via League of Nations 1922) Britain has a long running involvement, some might say responsibility, for the establishment of a State of Israel.

I don’t remember “austerity” (or pensioners losing WFA) being flagship policies in the election campaign. Must have been a late change in policy, just after elected

That's a good reason to reign them in, not support their fecking genocide.

So, spend every waking second from the moment they were elected telling us gran has to freeze and kids must go hungry because of the 20 billion quid black hole and how they have to make hard choices.

Then today announce a £22 billion investment in the equivalent of magic beans. And yes, carbon capture is a scam that simply does not work.

These people are not just corrupt, they are absolute idiots.

JFC... to put that in perspective, the money going into this, spent on solar farms alone, would double the total UK solar capacity. Or if it was only wind power, would add 65% more to current installed wind.

As far as I am aware The UK has always been in favour of a two state solution especially following the outcomes of the six day war in 1967.

The goal of which was to form ‘a little loyal Jewish Ulster’ in a sea of potentially hostile Arabism.

The only explanation you need is Ed Miliband. A fool who has been given what was supposed to be a made up job to keep him happy.

I liked a recent news article I saw, Miliband plans to repeal a couple of laws to help the UK energy markets. The 1st and 2nd laws of thermodynamics. Otherwise we're fecked.

Taking an entirely objective view of the policy there? Not basing it on some preordained view on the Miliband name?
