Wesley Sneijder

Rather us purchase Sanchez for 35m, if that were possible.

According to a report in the italian media the gap between barca s offer - 27m - and udinese's request is still 9m. Barca are trying to fill this gap by offering players - thiago and 2 others were mentioned, both none of these want to go to udinese.

And further populate our wing posititions, whilst leaving the gaping gap in central midfield?

Isn't he supposed to be quite good in the middle? Giggs has done well there and Sanchez is only 22 which is why I'm not buzzing for sneijder. Seems too old for all that money.

I think he's still at a good age, at 27 I'm certain that he would give us at least 5 class seasons.

Who's Patrick Barclay? And wages holdup? So a fee between the 2 clubs has been agreed?

Not sure if it's been agreed. More like the conversation went something like this: (I'm not an ITK!)

Gill: What's the situation regarding the availability of Schneijder?

Moratti: Well - we prefer to keep him - but for the right price...

Gill: So if he were available what sort of fee would you be looking for

Moratti: In this moment anything is possible. What is the situation regarding Nani?

Gill: Nani is a player that we are looking to keep. The manager is very keen on him and he is happy. What sort of fee would you be looking for regarding Schneijder.

Moratti: Well the normal fee for a player of his stature - You have to remember he has played in the World Cup Final, he has won the Champions League with us and the Treble and he is a very important player - so if Fabregas is worth £35-£40 million then Schneijder is worth at least the same perhaps more.

Gill: But you're saying he could be available?

Moratti: If we were to sell him it would have to be quick as it would have to replace a player of this importance.

What comes out of this is that Moratti is on record as saying that we have made an enquiry and also that we spoke about Nani. I don't think at this point we want to sell Nani. It could be that they would look for £35 million - perhaps less, but they will take this from the figure that Fabregas goes for the Market rate. Fabregas has won the world cup but no Treble of course and no Champions League :)

if we sign this fecker then i am going to have the biggest wank on the planet

I guess you're right, he is pretty much just what we need. 35m though and over 200k a week?

That would add around £40m onto any transfer fee paid for him if he signed a 4 year contract. So looking at an investment of £75m-ish.

How much have we cleared off our wage bill this summer though? A considerable amount probably. Also we have not signed a high earner since we sold Ronaldo, so our wage bill will currently be comparitively low. Maybe we could afford a second ludicrously high earner at the moment...

I still am unsure about whether we'd ever be in for such a high profile player. I wonder if SAF still feels he got his fingers burned with Veron and would be reluctant to risk the same again.

We signed Rooney!

I think we could. Someone like GCHQ would be in a better position to say but I estimated it using figures from Futebol Finance and elsewhere and I believe I'm right in saying that with VDS, Neville, Scholes, Hargreaves, Brown and O'Shea (and probably Gibson and Kuszczak as well) leaving and De Gea, Jones and Young coming in, even if we added Sneijder's £200k/wk our wage bill would actually decrease by a few million pounds per year. So I think it isn't so much a question of can we afford it, it's more do we want to take on the considerable financial risk associated with the move, since as you point out when you add his wages onto the transfer fee we are looking at a total outlay of £75-90m depending on the exact transfer fee and the length of his contract. With that kind of money at stake we need to be very confident that he is the right player for us, that there will be no problems settling in, that he will stay healthy and that he will be able to deliver at a world class level for the duration of his contract.

I don't think that the fee will be much of a problem. Inter new policy is to sell 1 big player a year and Sneijder is at the right age to be sold. Ok he'll cost a bomb (around 30-35m) but we can sign him.

In my opinion the stumbling block lie in his salary. The boy had caused all type of problems at Inter (who couldn't afford his Real Madrid's salary) and only signed with them because he was literally shown the door by the Galaticos. I won't be surprised if he chooses Malaga (owned by a sheik whose giving him around 8m euros a year) rather then us.

To conclude I still think that we'll sign Nasri. He's cheaper and younger.

John Cross, Mirror reporter who is with Arsenal on their tour, said on Talksport 20mins ago that Nasri favours us over City.

Im dead sure that other rags wont mention this though. they bloody want him to sing for shitty thus give less credibility to any gossip linking that lesbian with us. i fecking hate shitty, i fecking hate these scum of people who work in rags.

I'm not sure anyone wants to hear him sing really

I agree with this.

However, I don't believe (I'm not an ITK) that it is a choice of either Nasri or Sneijder - I think we want both.

I do know that Sneijder was our No 1 target since the beginning of the summer (bar the goalkeeper) - but the fact that Evra kind of broke ranks to indicate publicly that if Nasri were to go for a move he would be welcome at Old Trafford indicates that there is a firm move to get Nasri here. We don't do that unless we're already quite sure!

So I firmly believe that we want both players!

So a month ago we were dead certs to get Modric. Now he is a dead cert to go to Chelsea. Then last week we were dead certs to get Nasri. Now he is a dead cert to go to Man City. Now we are dead certs to get Sneijder.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Same here, I'll even have a pokey bum wank if we do eventually sign Wesley.

apparently we never entered talks with the club and it was all tabloid bs

I think we wanted him. Not sure if we made an offer or not, but pretty certain we wanted him. We've been following him for years!
