Wesley Sneijder

His wage demands will end our interest in him, there are options out there as good as him and they won't demand as much.

Who?

I reckon if fergie wants a player, high wages wont put him off. Could be the case that he has prioritised other targets he may think are more suitable but no doubt if the players interested then a deal could be done.

Wesley Sneijder would probably sell a shit load of shirts and would be a valuable asset to the club.

fair point - our most marketable person right now is who? Rooney?!

A man who's been his usual cordial self at Glastonbury recently - probably scared Greenpeace might mistake him for a Gorilla and attempt to liberate him

Hernandez is fast getting there.

Probably not far off. HMRC are always trying to tighten the rules to stop this stuff but if you pay the likes of PriceWaterhouseCoopers enough money they'll find a way for you.

:nono:

I deny any wrongdoing by my employer whatsoever!

Back on OT, wouldn't the 30k increase mean that he is probably just trying to earn somewhat in the same region as he is currently earning at Inter?

Just a uneducated assumption - the tax rate in England for high earners is 50% if I have my facts correct and Italy might probably be about 40%? (that's our rate here in SA aswell, though I am by no means comparing the 2).

So current = 170k * 0.6 after tax = 102k
At United = 200k * 0.5 after tax = 100k

These are obviously without considering image rights, rebates and generally tax avoidance (not evasion!) like Nick mentioned.

Just Googled the tax rates

Italy has a sliding tax scale as follows....
0 - 15,000 Euro 23%
15,001 - 28,000 Euro 27%
28,001 - 55,000 Euro 38%
55,001 - 75,000 Euro 41%
75,000+ Euro 43%

UK
0 - £37,400 20%
over £37,400 40%
over £150,000 50%

Anyone want to recalculate the figures?

If that's true then he will retain more in UK

I'd rather a double swoop for Javi Martinez and Thiago Alcantara than Sneijder.

Reaaallllly? Is he the new flavour of the month now after the U21's?

He's not Man Utd quality, I dont care how many kids he shines against.

Agreed. This guy needs to prove himself at a higher level than U21 football. Ryan Babel looked a world beater at the last U21 championship and where is he now?

It's not that, he's proven himself decent to good but nothing more at Bilbao, he's been playing 35 games a season for the last 5 years, makes a mockery of the U21 league, it's hardly surprising he got the better of every 20 year old with 30 games under his belt he came across.

He's a good player, but he's not the standard we should be looking for.

I reckon that after De Gea - this was our main target this summer. Pretty convinced of that. The media may bang on about Diarra etc. but SAF MUST (after the battering by Barcelona) have decided to go down the way of speeding up our central midfield with first time passing, creative passing and opening up options from midfield.

This will make us extremely difficult to beat.

The player wants to come! SAF wants the player. He is THE player to knit our midfield together. Inter Milan WOULD sell the player as long as the bid was high enough! I suspect we're in the position where we can pay for him.

He'll come. Watch.

I did not believe we stood a chance of signing the dutch maestro due to the glazers shallow pockets, though over recent days reading the possible renewed Nike deal and hearing Inter have bid for a possible replacement to sneijder in Arsenal target Ricardo Alvarez. I am now wondering if a bit in the region of 30-35m might actually grease the wheel of the move. If SAF could manage to add Sneijder to our midfield we would look to have the making of a half decent midfield, and one which is still young enough to improve. Though everyone has Barca down as the best team ever i do get comfort from knowing that below team would have an average age of below 23 and that each of the player below has not reached their personal peak.

Jones isn't a CM and we seem to be missing a left winger.

What would be more ideal would be

-----------Hernandez/Rooney--------------

Young/Nani-----Sneijder-------Valencia/Nani

----------Carrick-------Fletcher------------

Evra/Raf-----Vidic/Jones---Smalling/Rio---Fab

No benefit whatsoever in pushing Rooney back up top at the expense of Hernandez. Whoever we sign has to be excellent from a deeper midfield role. deeper.

Other than the fact that it's his natural position and Hernandez doesn't play 50+ games a season. That's why they rotate. Sneijder/Rooney can also rotate in the AMC role as they also cannot play every single game.

You could go

Hernandez

Sneijder

or

Rooney

Sneijder

or

Hernandez

Rooney.

This.

If we're looking for a player than can possibly play the role Rooney does for us now they're going to have to be really good either deeper in midfield (Modric) or wide (Young)

You say that but it is confirmed that we were interested in 30m for Sanchez. We made a bid of £10m for Varane. We obviously need a central midfielder - so where do you get the idea that we can't afford Schneider (Nike deal or no Nike deal - we'd been planning major investment for years!)

I don't think Deuce Bigalow is the answer to our midfield problem.

Rafael at LB? Nani up-front? Anderson on the left wing? Vidic and Evra not yet reached 'their personal peak'? Shallow pockets? What the feck are you twatting on about?

Nuts.

Barcelona told us we need a mobile and nimble midfield who can play first touch, creative football, keeping the ball and creating space beautifully.

This guy's idea is to replace Scholes or Hargreaves by sticking a Central Defender with no European experience - unless you count the U21s!
