Wesley Sneijder

^ You know there is something called money and transfer fees. That is where the problem lies.

I have a feeling we're going to get him.

I'm starting to wonder myself. Of the top quality CM targets availible, he seems to be the most realistic. Which is strange really because he is the most accomplished. It seems impossibly high transfer fees are more dependant on a players potential rather that his current playing level.

I think it would be cheaper to buy Sneijder than modric, considering that Spurs really don't want to sell, least to a rival.. And Inter need to sell, someone

Err, hate to break up the festivities but Inter need to sell the same way Spurs need to sell. Trim the fat so they can improve the squad. Never said anything about needing to sell their best players.

never said Inter need to sell Sneijder, still believe he would be cheaper than Modric.

So, Alvarez has now signed for Inter. If something will happen with Sneijder it's gonna be now, will be an interesting day perhaps?

I thought that momentarily, then realised that there was no mention of "we don't want to sell our best players" the way Harry did.

I am sure there will be a rebuttal from Inter if their signals have been misinterpreted.

Rene Meulensteen 'Wesley Sneijder would fit perfect here. He is the most ideal player for us that I can think of.

'I don’t say that because he is Dutch. I have been at Manchester United for a while, I know all the ins and outs of the team and I know that he would be a great reinforcement.

'The new Paul Scholes does not exist, just as there is not a new Roy Keane, but I cannot think of anyone more perfect for us than Sneijder.'

He added: 'Sneijder is not a runner, but perfectly two-footed. He can run the game and puts the ball whereever he wants.

'To me, he seems a perfect addition to players like Hernandez, Rooney, Park, Young, Valencia, Nani and Giggs. Plus, Wesley has plenty of experience in top football, of course.

'I don’t know how his future is at Inter, of course – whether he is allowed to leave and whether we can pay him. But purely on the basis of his ability, I would say "Get Sneijder".'

United first team coach 1 - 0 Caf.

He seems to think Sneijder can play in a 442? If that is so who are we to question it? BTW incase others didn't know I too was of the opinion that Sneijder is not what we need simply because he imo could not play in a midfield 2. I thought the same about Nasri too..

Would it be considered premature to get my cock out at this point?

Yep
he also said stekelenburg was our #1 target a few months back

Only a matter of time until he is linked to City again....

I believe this to be the case also. It could be a situation where Inter wanted a replacement before selling Sneijder, which would make sense.

In any case, should we want Sneijder then there is no question that we would have contacted Inter by now to see where the transfer possibilities are.

He has to be our number 1 target in my mind, and perhaps the Nasri interest is simply plan B.

Meulensteen is a massive WUM. All that Stekelenburg stuff turned out to be bollocks and the Sneijder stuff is just pure muppetry.

You would have to build the side around Sneijder. This would mean Rooney having to play a different role as I suspect sneijder will not fit int well playing the "giggs" role from last season.

He played well at Inter when he was flanked by 2 defensive central midfielders for Inter and Holland.

I think he would be the wrong signing for us.

He knows as much about that as we do, he has no insider knowledge on it and as has been pointed out he announced we would be signing Maarten Stekelenberg.

I don't think we'll get any of Sneijder, Modric or Nasri. Sneijder will stay at Inter and the other two will go to either City or Chelsea.

In the end I think we'll end up with an M'vila type signing, which doesn't bother me.

The only thing that I don't like about Sneijder is his age. What is his injury record? Is it realistic to expect him to play into his early/mid thirties?

His age is precfect IMO. 27, would have 4 years left at the top, which would allow us 4 years to bring through and develop the several good young midfielders we already have at the club. Perfect timing.

decoy/red herring

it'll be Nasri

How could this be a decoy for Nasri if our name is currently being more heavy linked with him than Sneijder?

If anything both Nasri and Sneijder are red herrings for someone else, someone no one had expected.

Rene Meulensteen must be wrong - the caf says Sneijder can't play in CM so the united coach must be incorrect. What would he know, anyway? Pffft, saying Sneijder is the perfect fit! What an idiot, eh!

Sneijder is 27 and will cost at least £30m and £200,000 + per week in wages over 5 years. Make your calculations, it's a very bad deal.

I'm just curious as to why RM would liberally talk about which players we'd like to have in our side. Its very un-united like to publically mark the players we'd like to sign.

Possibly because we're not interested?

He did the same with Stekelenberg. Its probably a ploy to make the other clubs believe we are after Sneijder while we are actually after someone else..

If anything both Nasri and Sneijder are red herrings for Joey Barton .

:D

don't worry mate - just tongue in cheek - probably

Muelensteen creating a red herring/decoy to throw them off the trail

Muppet mode: With Inter having signed Alavarez as a potential replacement, do you feel a move is back on the cards for Sneijder?

We need both an M'vila & Sneijder type of signing... Sneijder would fit in perfectly, he's lot tougher than Nasri thats for sure!
