Wesley Sneijder

Tevez was immense in the second leg at OT against Barca whether people like that or not. His contribution cannot be cast aside. His work rate that night was phenomenal and he never let the Barca back four settle.

Anyway back on track, are we getting Sneijder or not???

Shit yeah, forgot it was a Sneijder thread :D

I certainly fecking hope so yeah, it will be a perfect summer if we pick up a top top midfielder.

What do you say Wesley?

Lance, you can't have thought that through.

He was in his best form of the season at the stage:

First this...

and the following week he won us the league with this...

And then he went on to have an absolute mare against Arsenal in the title clincher, with the fans booing Fergie for daring to sub a player who performed horribly.

Park seemed a lot better choice ahead of the Barca game, shame it didn't work out. Bringing on Tévez at half time was a panic substitution which cost us the chance to get a foothold on the game.

he didn't have "a mare" vs. Arsenal, he just missed a couple of chances. He generally played well.

Park maybe, Giggs no!

agreed, but the problem wasn't bringing him on, it was who he brought him on for.

I do not agree with that, he looked sluggish and his touch, as for the most part of the season, was awful in that game.

Carrick-Anderson-Park midfield behind Rooney, Tévez and Ronaldo? Well, yeah, we could have tried that. Giggs was one of our worst players on the night, in hindsight it would have done no harm to leave him out.

Yeah, that's true to be fair.

Right we've multi-quoted the shit out of that then :) back to Sneijder.

Or any fecking midfielder please!

You can't lose the genius of Paul Scholes and not replace him, you just can't. Still a couple of months to go though right? And I always assumed that our biggest transfer would be the hardest that drags on the longest.

It's all so quiet though. Those transfers that, in the past, dragged on for long started early: the speculation, the rumours. At the end of June, everyone knew we were definitely in for Berbatov. Now we're barely linked with midfielders any more.

But I thought he's shite and overrated?

We've lost Hargreaves, Scholes, Giggs is 38 and Darren Gibson. I'll be seriously amazed if we didn't bring in a central midfielder.

Not sure if this has been posted, but this is the latest from Marco Branca, Inters Sporting Director

"Sneijder and Eto'o are great players who can change a game in a moment, so it is normal that great teams should be thinking about them but they are happy here and I don't think they want to leave," he said. "We certainly don't want them to."

According to MEN, Sneijder is fergie's no 1 target after signing young and de gea. My impression is that the real target is someone else, although the muppet in me would me more than happy with Sneijder

 How big of you.

Transfer goss has gone pretty quiet. It also seems the journnos really are clueless as to what is going on...

Not sure if Fergie is really interested. He was available for peanuts just 2 years ago, plus he does not really play the position where we need someone

I don't think that Inter will pose much of a problem for Sneijder. Ok he'll cost a bomb but Inter fans aren't the loyal type (in terms of love towards players) and Moratti's new strategy is to sell at least 1 class player per year to balance the books. I also believe that Sneijder wants to leave. Inter are in a mess right now, their team is old and after 3 managers in a year, Moratti can't find a good manager who want to sign with his club (you can't blame the managers Inter is a poisoned chalice) while sticking to the president's order in every single decision made.

The stumbling block is Sneijder's salary. The Dutch is one of the highest paid players at Inter and had to accept a wage cut to play with them (something the he would never have accepted if he wasn't desperate to leave Real). He had won all there is to win and I have this feeling that if he had to choose between honors (United) and money (City) he'll choose the latter.

Gasperini is the new Inter coach. How will that impact Sneijder's stay or departure?

If that's what he's asking for then he can feck right off. He's not as good as Rooney and he wants 50k more than him. he's a money whore given his moving around from club to club.

Give me the figures accountant man.

I can't go that far, unfortunately, but when weighing up comparative wages with our European counterparts you need to basically ignore the standard tax rates and brackets, because top level players don't get paid the same way we do any more. Rooney won't get a payslip every week with £170,000 on it (or whatever he actually earns), the vast majority of it will be paid to a offshore holding company or some other tax efficient method or payment. He'll be paying somebody a handsome fee for making sure he pays as little tax as possible, and when you have the options they do that's pretty little.

How do you know how much money Rooney earns? And how does being considered surplus to requirements by Real, and sold, make him a "money whore?"

Presumably it would be close to a £30k rise in real terms then?

We have no idea what his wage demands are.

But, but, the sun said he wants £200k, and they wrote it in capital letters and bold type!

Presumably it would be close to a 30k rise in real terms then?

Probably not far off. HMRC are always trying to tighten the rules to stop this stuff but if you pay the likes of PriceWaterhouseCoopers enough money they'll find a way for you.
