I like Modric and I know if he goes to Chelsea they'll be stronger, but... well, I do appreciate Sneijder and maybe I'm biased.
You two are failing to realise he doesnt play in midfield. I agree, hes a better player than modric, but modric is a better fit for our team. Sneijder plays the same role rooney does, we dont need another rooney, we need proper midfielders.

Sneijder as a player is much better than Modric, you gotta agree. Sneijder can also play in that midfield position you think we should buy Modric for. Imagine Sneijder playing behind Rooney, where Wazza is our only striker. Two defensive midfielders (Carrick and Fletcher), Sneijder in front of them, Nani and Valencia on the wings and Rooney up front. I'm sure that's a bigger potential in a game against Madrid or Barcelona than midfield with Carrick and Modric with Rooney and Hernandez up front. Rooney proved in 2009/10 he can play as a striker, yes, he also proved he feels very good behind Hernandez last season, but as you know, some people said after the final with Barca that playing Hernandez was a mistake. There's only one year difference between Modrić and Sneijder, but I'd take Sneijder any day.

I vote against separating Hernandez and Rooney.
With Fletcher coming back, Carrick's form in Europe matches and Modric/Sneijder coming to United - Hernandez may be used as a super-sub in some matches.
Hate this silly notion that Sneijder cant play in a midfield 2. He's got a better engine, more mobile, more ability and better defensively that Giggs who was fine for us in a midfield 2. A midfield 3 might unlock more of Sneijders game but thats the point of a midfield 3, since you don't have the extra striker. If we're playing 3 in midfield with one striker I'd rather have Rooney and a lone striker and Sneijder behind him with Hernandez on the bench anyway.
Any team it's worth playing 2 in the middle against Sneijder will be a massive improvement on what we have and better than Modric that's for sure. Modric's plus is he's a year younger, on cheaper wages and is proven in the Prem, not that he can play in a midfield 2 or he's better than Sneijder.

I think Sneijder can play CM very well. He has all the attributes to play there and he does not play as far up the pitch as Rooney. I don't know where people got that idea.
I don't see any problems fitting Sneijder into our team. His range of passing, mobility etc. means he could do the job very well.
It's not as simple as saying 'he can't play in a midfield two'. Of course he can. But the way we attack is mostly on the wings... in my view if he does play with Carrick, say, then you can't afford to play Nani and Young on the wings, say, against the best sides, because it just leaves the team too exposed defensively. And then if you play say Valencia and Park, or play Carrick and Fletcher or Anderson behind Sneijder/other roving midfield player, you are left not playing your best players. He's close to what we need, but I see the view that he's not quite the right fit given the personnel we have now and appear to be interested in.
To be honest, the assumption that Sneijder can't hack it in any other position than the one he usually occupies for Inter is a retarded one.

You could make the same argument for Modric, though. The difference would be minimal. Besides, Young puts in a very good shift, I don't think there'll be any problems playing him in the big games providing his form is good.
you're not wrong, but IMO you're not entirely right either, back in the 2008WC, Sneijder played the 'deeplying playmaker' role, IMO it's no coincedence that we played some of our best football ever in first matches of that tournament... Yes he plays 'in the hole' just behind the striker for Inter now, and no, defending isnt his thing, but as a playmaker he doesnt necessarily have to operate just behind the striker, together with a strong tacling, ball-winning midfielder he could still function in a midfield two IMO...
