Wesley Sneijder

Pseudo-believer. I'll believe you when you wager your perma-ban on it. Go on, 'Caf folklore awaits you..

Rooney's our best player and paid accordingly. Sneijder can't expect to join a club like United and demand to be paid better (or as well as) their best player, before he's proved himself at his new club.
Better? Definitely not.

The same? If he'd proven it over a longer period I'd certainly say that would be fair enough. My problem with him is that he had that one amazing season in 09/10 but otherwise hasn't been close to being one of the best in the world.

Maybe we'd be willing to match Rooney's wages, but certainly not any more.

1 week is a long time in football. This could very well go down to Deadline day.

if we really wanted to sign him, it won't have been dragged for so long all summer, one week won't change a thing, he isn't coming now.

Woop-e-Doo he's training for a match on weekend, that's what he's paid to do - isn't he? It changes nothing, whether we're interested or not, he's at Inter to do a job and he'll keep doing that job until anything changes.

It all looks like a joke.

Pre-season: Played against mediocre sides, and the midfield looked fine.
Community Shield: Good game against good opponents.
PL: 2 games against mediocre sides. And the CAF goes ballistic.

So, we have just one good game against a tough opposition. Can we judge our midfield from just one solitary game?

And have we already found a successor for Scholes?

Even though I've only got a vague idea about how much either of them are being paid I'm assuming the contradiction in bold is the reason this move won't happen.

I think you might have missed the point. I was pointing out that it completely reasonable for him to demand very high wages, without having to prove himself. He has proved, at Inter and at International level, that he is one of the top players in the world. If a club wants him, they are going to have to pay extortionate wages. But we are not that club.

So Spurs and Barcelona are mediocre sides then?
Well done

Different case, Tottenham didn't want to sell and were playing hardball. Inter have pretty much come out and said that Sneijder is available.

They've also said he's untouchable

For the record I dont think he'll sign now but to suggest it couldn't still happen is far from the truth

Spurs were mediocre on that day. Check their midfield. And Barcelona did not play their full side.

Spurs played a team full of decent players. It wasn't so long ago that alot of people on this forum stated that Spurs had a better midfield than ours. Now they're mediocre?

We simply brushed them aside. We're playing really good football at a very fast pace. Spurs couldn't stick with the pace of the game especially after the goal when we went up a gear in performance. The second half performance was back to our best, creating chance after chance and laying siege to the oppositions box. Its what we used to do a few years back when Ronnie/Tevez/Rooney were battering teams.

Wouldn't usually quote Yolanthe, but this... this just has a smell of a move all over it:

God decides and you just follow, when love fills you with joy, you will find happiness anyway..'

It could happen but it's very unlikely. More of a chance of us pulling some random midfielder out of a random side's arse.

Don't think that will happen. SAF told Gill if he brought in someone in CM it has to be a class player.

I understood your point. He's a good player, so will expect to be well paid.

My point was that he's not good enough to join our club on higher wages than our current best player - someone who is a better player than him IMO.

Spurs are mediocre? The same forum which at times has proclaimed Lennon, VDV, Bale as class now suddenly see that midfield is average? Their team beat Inter and AC last year in the Champions League.

Tottenham aren't mediocre. We had injuries, so did they. We're just significantly better.

And all the people saying "two games and the caf goes ballistic" it's more like "5 years and 2 games of continued unparalleled success and the caf is happy"

Yes. Kranjcar and Livermore set your heart afire. VDV was the only good player there. But that day he played shit, because he had no proper support.

Barcelona played with Thiago, Keita and Iniesta in midfield in our friendly, co-incidentally the same midfield played against Madrid in the first leg.

That is how football (or any other field of work) works. If you want the services of the best in the world, you have to pay for it!

Maybe not as well as Rooney. But if we were to buy him, he would most certainly getting paid as well as he is a Inter, I don't blame him for asking for that much. I also don't expect us to pay it, I don't want us to either.

David Livermore - first PL start.

Krancjar - usually deployed on the wing.

Big issue was that they had no Modric. I suspect Spurs would have had more second half possession had they done so. Its also got to be considered that this was their first decent game of the season and they tired badly.

And we didnt "brush them aside" in central areas. For long periods of the first half Spurs controlled possession and even after we got the first goal they had chances as players were running into space in front of our back four.

Anderson and Cleverly did well, especially in the second half, but the difference between the sides was Rooney dropping deep and creating openings for Young and (to a lesser extent) Nani to exploit.

I was genuinely about to admit defeat and say the same thing, until I saw that tweet from Sneijder's wife and I got slightly excited again!

I was on the same lines, until his tweet today.

On a side note how retarded is @1andonlywalshy on Twitter? His persistence that its going to happen is sad, I reckon he has no mates, at all.
