Decent signing in the short term but they seem very reluctant to spend money. They've reportedly saved 100m over 5 years in FFP with the Eto'o deal

You're all about them "big transfers" aren't you?

Well when you're looking to sell the two biggest stars on your team, you really should be ready to try and get in some quality replacements.

You're basing all of this on a De Laurentiis quote, who if one's honest, is the last person you'd want to base your argument on. And even if you do base it on his quote, there is nothing more to it than Inter not wanting to pay over the odds for a player.

Now don't go ignoring the thread for two pages like you normally do when someone engages you in a conversation..

It's been widely reported that they're trying to bring down their spending due to FFP. They've saved 100m over 5 years with the Eto'o deal.

Not paying over the odds is fine but it's almost the end of the window and they're not really strengthening are they? Their CEO and President have spent all summer talking about selling Eto'o and Sneijder with no apparent interest in re investing the money.

Maybe that guy who I've quoted isn't reliable so we'll just have to wait and see.

Reinvesting what money? The Eto'o deal was finalised only yesterday. Did you want him to lay out his re-investment plan for money that he didn't have for a transfer that hadn't been finalised?

Going by your 'Pandev is reportedly out' rationale, why aren't you mentioning Juraj Kucka and Rodrigo Palacio in? Not big enough transfers?

Might they're willing to give youth & fringe players a chance to shine, instead of blowing money on what turns out to be shite!

Cant believe that cnut Ate-ohhhhhhh's gettin all that fecking loot goin to Russia.. black gold has ruined football.. shower of cnuts the lot of them!

100m over 5 years? It might not be enough for them. They still have a problem with their wage bill which is huge when compared to the turnover. I m sure sneijder will leave by the end next summer latest.

Wages before the FFP come into play don't effect the regulations. Inter won't be saving anything.

I m not an expert on ffp so i wont contest that, however there is another aspect which we left out. up to 2 or 3 years ago, inter used to get a considerable amount of money (around 30 m euro) every year from the moratti family business. The business, an oil refinery, was biult by moratti's father and massimo was one of the major shareholders, together with his brothers.

However 2 or 3 years ago, the moratti's sold part of their shareholding, and this meant the end of the annual sponsorship. They still get sponsorships, but nowhere near the figures of 3 or 4 years ago.

Dont mean for this to sound like some old anti-Glazer/MUST rant we're used to hearing (prob does tho ), but it just makes ya sick when you think how far ahead of everyone we'd be if we didnt have the debt. The amounts we bring in are awesome & we still continue to increase that intake each year.. alot of clubs are struggling - yet we're flourishing... sadly alot of it goes to pay their debt, and gives rise to everyone saying we're just plain skint.

If this reported stand-off with Inter & Sneijder is down to us not payin them £30m/£35m or Sneijder 170k wages, then alot of us will be well pissed-off considering we were told that the Ronnie money would be available for players & that there'll always be money available for a marquee signing each year - thats a substantial amount of money supposedly available for transfers!

2 sides to each story. ;) But not going to continue that in this thread.

I'm sure there is money available for players but I doubt very much that we'd be daft enough to buy players at over-inflated prices or pay them over-inflated wages if we didn't think that they would be worth it in the long run. By the way, "we" means management there not the fans. Our idea of whether a player is worth the money may be very different to theirs.

Can't remember any thing being said about us signing a marquee player every year...why on earth would we want to do that. We buy the players that will benefit the team the most and that decision surely isn't going to be based on whether they are a "marquee" player or not is it.

I do recall a footy coach, with connections to United, explaining to me a couple of years ago why they hadn't bought a certain player (who shall remain nameless) and he said that they only buy players with a certain type of mentality and they investigate that thoroughly beforehand. In other words if they don't fit the "United type" then they won't be bought...whoever they are, marquee or not.

I try to remember that when they don't buy who I want them to buy.

Very interesting.

Any chance of divulging the player identity via PM and how United investigate the mentality of players beforehand?

Sorry if that sounds cheeky and understand if you cannot for obvious reasons but that is intriquing and explains the type of transfers, small and big that are made by the club.

I have a funny feeling that the player that Red Defence mentioned here is actually Wesley Sneijder. I think SAF had a reason when he let him go to Inter in the same summer we sold Ronaldo to Real. It was so obvious that we would have to replace Scholes very soon, and he didn't really pursue Sneijder (or VdV as well, for that matter) at dirt cheap price, so there must be a reason behind that.

This 'mentality thing' makes sense. For example fergie s comments on jones focus on his never say die attitude and not on the other qualities - pace, strength, tackling ability...
It's something you wont find on football manager games :)

It could be one a number of players.

There's plenty we could have traded in with Real for Ronaldo(e.g. Robben, VDV and others).

Joe Cole is another one when he was going on a bosman.

It also explains why we might not have gone for the likes of Banega, Pastore or Hamsik etc when the transfer forum is hot for them.

Actually, as someone who has to edit FM databases routinely for my newphews every summer so they can play the game with updated squads prior to the new release, there are hidden personality stats in the FM datebase:lol:.

Not that they bear any sembelance to reality but they are factored in. You can't really rate someone's professionalism or mentality from 1-20.

I'm not 100% sure, but I'd assume the mentality is probably investigated like they would in any corporate business before they appoint management or higher level execs.

For footballers it would probably consist of a combination of psychometric and psychological testing results, coupled with history and past behaviour on and off the pitch.

All this should give you a good indicator of the players behavorial tendencies and fighting spirit.

are you the uncle of wr8_utd by any chance? :)

Joking apart, there are also cultural aspects that can impact upon how easy a player would settle.
in.

Also, re Sneijder, i m sure that fergie is not a yolanthe fan....

I didn't get the impression they gained the info from any form of psychometric/psychological tests at all.

More along the lines of talking to them to assess them coupled with strengths/weaknesses/attitude from observation and from people who know and work with them. Also videos of a player in action on the pitch will give them a fair number of clues about he responds in various situations.

Not at all:D

If you ever see someone in the transfer forum rate some hitherto unknown 18 year old's professionalism and mentality it's a banker they have been scouting talent on the Data editor of FM.

The fact it has 299k views is crazy, considering it is invisble to WR8.
