Wesley Sneijder

Perspective Devilish. I don't think Modric would have made much difference. He's a great passer but Modric wouldn't have stopped us having over 20 shots on goal and seventeen on target. Spurs played well for 60 minutes but we've shown already away from home that we're no mugs. Next weeks another challenge, especially against an Arsenal team who must be desperate to make news for the right reasons. Sir Alex showed great faith and belief in his players and that's because they are good enough

I've already said it. Our last 40 minutes were breathtaking, a joy to behold. On the other hand we were playing against Spurs who were without their best midfielder and who had a certain Livermore in CM. Conclusion: you can't really judge whether Clev-Ando midfield is good enough OR not out of that game.

SAF says alot of things too.

Even if we do sign him, this Yolanthe bird is going to be a pain in the arse (And not the good kind)

I agree, SAF doesn't fancy a player with a media personality for a wife.

Do tell me about this 'good kind' pain in the arse though, ol' Top? :smirk:

Sneijder was indeed in training today.

Erm... :nervous:

I'm Danish, something got lost in translation...

Of course he isn't coming, if he was coming he would have moved long ago. It's not like Inter refuse to sell or he refuses to move, both of them pretty much confirmed their desire for this transfer to happen, it's us who don't really want to bring him at that price and rightly so. It's been awfully quiet for good two weeks when it comes to this saga, apart from the odd bump by someone on here.

There is a mean streak in anyone who will destroy another's faith.

The prices and even the wages that have been touted are completely inline with market rates for top Champions League players.

With our need for a CM, I would hope that finances weren't this issue (though probably are!).

Still believe he'll come.

Inter have been f****** around with the untouchable and if there's enough money. Sneijder has been f****** around as well. Rather than have Inter bid the prices up we'll launch a bid just before deadline day and give them enough time to sign Tevez.

Obviously Yolanthe didn't say he's staying so something is certainly possible. From our point of view I can absolutely see us launching a bid for him to add to our kids. No matter how talented I believe Sneijder would be the final piece in the jigsaw.

We did this before with Cantona - extremely talented kids and a player to help 'guide' them!

£200k a week that has been rumoured is absolutely mental, whether he is Wesley Sneijder or Diego Maradona. It'd completely ruin our wage structure, not to mention that it's £10m a year and we'd be buying him with a view of a 4-year contract at least which combined with a £35m price tag gives us an expense of £75m. We don't need to spend this kind of money, our midfield has been fine lately and it's possible that Cleverley will provide a sufficient solution while we wait on Tunniclife and Pogba to fully develop in the next two or three years. We could spend this £75m elsewhere, we could build a new side of young players with that kind of money. We got an exciting team on our hands, I had my doubts if we could pull it off without a new midfielder but now I really want us to try.

He's nothing like Cantona. Cantona was pure character, a leader, someone who inspired both on and off the pitch. Sneijder is a fine player but he isn't half the man Cantona was.

It's not like we've only played spurs..we've not. We've played city, WBA and spurs. I'd say city was our best performance at the new wembley certainly in my memory. If we lose to Arsenal next week, that won't prove anything either. I'm pretty confident

100% this.

It's not like we've left transfers till the end ever before eh..

I beg to differ. An Anderson-Cleverly pairing in central midfield has looked promising in recent weeks, but they were against a Man City's team who were totally unfit, a pathetic Spurs' midfield missing their maestro, and WBA. Anderson hasn't proved his consistency in the last 4 years, and Cleverly is very inexperienced. We need a worldclass midfielder, and this pressing need will be very apparent when we go against the top 6 teams in the league, or the smaller teams that park a bus in front of their goal, and of course the big teams in the champions league. I totally understand the affections of bringing up and nuturing a young player from the youth team, but if the likes of Morrison, Cleverly and Pogba are good enough, they will stamp their mark on the first team, and Fergie will be more than happy to give them major roles to play in our pursuit of honours on all front.

However, to rely on Cleverly (inexperienced), Carrick (M.I.A in big games), Fletcher (loss of form and illness) and Anderson (terribly inconsistent) in the most important position of the field, i think we are asking for trouble, and we have on many many occasions saw for ourselves what the lack of genuinely creative midfielder can do, and i cannot believe that people are still putting all the eggs onto the Cleverly basket as an output for creative passing for this season.

We did with Berbatov when Tottenham were reluctant to sell, but even then rumours had been very strong in the last few days of the window and it seemed inevitable. Rooney was a different case because we only made a move when Newcastle stepped in with four or five days left in the window, had they not bid £20m for him we would have waited an extra year to buy him.

There's no reason to drag Sneijder saga for so long. At least two of Inter executives have already come out and said that he was for sale at reasonable price, basically pimping him out of the club. Sneijder himself has admitted that he wouldn't oppose a move. It appears that they want this move far more than we do, I wouldn't be shocked if our interest had been exaggerated.

Sneijder won't control games for us anyway, for that to happen we would need a strong, combatitive midfielder in Keano's mould, not a tiny playmaker. It's a Keane like player that we are missing at the moment because our wingers, Rooney and current crop of midfielders provide just enough creativity.

Wage structure? The wage structure we shattered to pay Rooney enough to stay? That wage structure?

I don't know why you all insist on making things up about why he will or won't come. United will know what they are prepared to pay in terms of transfer fee and wages and Inter/Sneijder will know what they will accept. Things will line up or they won't. Why the pages of hormonal stressing?

Exactly. All this talk about transfer fees and wages is more than annoying.

Three teams which are supposed to have a weaker central midfield then ours.
