Wesley Sneijder

If we're really after him (which we probably are) then one poor (or exceptional) team performance won't make us suddenly lose interest in him.

That said we looked quality today

I'd rather have Sneijder than not, but he must know what he's getting himself into, on a rumored salary and the extra pressure and with the way we rotate, and and the youngsters arising ...If he's smart, he won't come

The performances this season have shown we don't need him. I have no doubt we would want him in our team and there is interest, it's up to Sneijder if he is willing to accept our terms he'll come, if not then we won't break the bank for him and we don't need to.

After two games Sneijder has gone from essential to luxury. We don't need him really but you never know we might just feel like getting stronger for the sake of it.

Garry Neville has just made a good point. He said 'its good to see these young players but as the season goes on you are going to need the experienced players playing. Let them play these games at the start of the season games of course, but later on you will need the older ones playing the big games'.

He's spot on i have to say. I still want Sneijder and still think that we can still utilise the younger players weve got with him also.

Before we all get carried away, and not that I'm advocating the desperate need for Sneijigglydider here per say, but it should probably be noted that for 50 odd minutes today we did look like we badly needed another creative CM, and there'll be far sterner tests this season than Spurs at home, a team who haven't beaten us here for 22 years, shorn of their best player and playing their first game of the season...

Just saying like..

SAF's presumed interest in signing Sneijder will not be changed on the basis of one single good game IMO. Anderson and Cleverley shows today that they can compete at this level, but the question is whether SAF have confidence in their consistency. I still believe in one more signing this summer, and Sneijder would do just fine.

Yes, a worthy point for sure. I'm in the camp that thinks along the lines - yes we're well placed - but an addition of the quality of Sneijder surely would only improve us beyond measure.

I'd recokon the only difference performances like tonight makes - if we are interested in Sneijder is it strengthens our negotiation resolve.

We wont go out of our way, pay over the odds or break our wage structure to get him, whereas if the team was struggling, we might have forced our hand.

Now at least we have options. If Sneijder doesn't come, we can cope well enough without him and we can always strengthen next year or if he does end up coming, at least it will be at a reasonable price and wage.

One for Wr8; spotted in the stands!

Yesterday's last 40 minutes were breathtaking. Anderson-Cleverley showed their stuff and did very well. On the other hand we're talking about Spurs, at home and without their finest midfielder in the team. One should really see things into the right concept.

I don't really give a toss about Sneijder - I'm not even sure he's the right man for the job - but I broadly agree with this. I really like Cleverley and Anderson as players but I'm not fully convinced they're a natural partnership and for the majority of our last two games we've struggled to retain possession. Against VERY average midfields.

I Agree, and I disagree. I thought VDV played very deep at times to help the 2 in midfield, aswell as Bale kept drifting in trying to get away from Smallings pocket...But true, they had problems at times. My feeling is that if we give them time, they could just gel to an amazing partnership. I would say they have all the ingredients..

Bang on Mockney. We broke a few times and just needed a Sneijder type to play the right ball at the right time, we got there eventually but we shouldn't go too over the top.

I also thought we looked a better team once Giggsy came on, that tells me enough.

I agree...especially in tight CL games. First hour of yesterday we looked like we needed some creativity.

Fergie wins again. We might bring another player in, but it won't be a Sneijder.

It seems clear to me that united have at least made enquiries about bringing Sneijder.

In my view a case of their being too much smoke for there to be no fire. Of course whether a deal comes off remains to be seen.

I personally think Fergie will want to stregthen wheile we're strong. Chelsea last season stared like a house on fire but a lack of squad depth in key areas costs them ultimately.

That said, very impressive so far.

Its gone very quiet on this on this... Perhaps, because negotiations are on or perhaps its dead in the water..

Yeah exactly, 2 games against 2 average midfields.

Let's see whether he was essential or not after we play better midfields shall we?

Note: I don't think Sneijder specifically is essential, but a top midfielder still is.

Great to see the kids finally getting some playing time, and it looks like Fergie has comitted to featuring Welbeck, Cleverly, Jones, and Smalling more often. That said, we have lost a good bit of experience and could use a top notch established player to come in and embellish the youth. Sneijder would be ideal but then again if he's asking for ridiculous money, I can't blame Fergie for moving on.

I don't think he is the right man for the job, to me if we buy Sneijder he will mostly play alongside Carrick or Fletcher so he doesn't have much defensive responsibility. I'd rather we bought a deep lying defensive mid in the Xabi Alonso mould that could play with Anderson or Cleverley and let them compete for the creative attacking ole in midfield.

the season is long, i still think we need another top notch player available. Its asking a lot to think that the kids can keep that level of performance from the 2nd half up all season. Never hurts to have options

Yep, if not Sneijder I still think we need another midfielder.

I still think we'll sign a midfielder not particularly Sneijder though.

I would love Sneijder to join us, he would be ideal and compliment the young players in our team.

This is slightly off topic, if we do not sign Sneijder i got a sneaky feeling Fergie might make a bid for Wilshere, if not this year then possibly next summer.

He is the type of player Fergie would consider, young, bags of talent, and has real hunger to succeed.

I recall SAF comments about Tony Adams a few years ago, "united player in an Arse shirt" or something like that, is Wilshere in that category?

there was a bloke sitting behind SAF last night wearing an inter shirt, its a sign! welcome to manchester wesley!!!!

If they were to lose Wilshere on top of Fabregas and Nasri, Wenger would be fast tracked to a nursing home.

He might as well call it a day and quit.

Perspective Devilish. I don't think Modric would have made much difference. He's a great passer but Modric wouldn't have stopped us having over 20 shots on goal and seventeen on target. Spurs played well for 60 minutes but we've shown already away from home that we're no mugs. Next weeks another challenge, especially against an Arsenal team who must be desperate to make news for the right reasons. Sir Alex showed great faith and belief in his players and that's because they are good enough
