Wesley Sneijder

Plenty of noise about Sneijder on twitter since this afternoon. Looks like there will be a final attempt to sign the Dutch midfielder with the aid of Nike.

That's the problem with Twitter though isn't it.

Joe Soap tweets that perhaps Nike could help United to find the money to pay for Sneijder, others retweet it in various forms, including the journos who are stuck for something else to concoct that could be seen as remotely believable by the gullible and the next minute it's fact.

Weren't they saying the exact same thing several weeks ago?

Anyway, 2 possible scenarios:

1. We ain't gonna sign him

2. United are so pissed off with all the speculation that they have refused to deal with them unless they keep their fecking traps shut. Negotiations are taking place behind the scenes and anyone from either side who leaks anything is threatened with instant dismissal, if an employee, or the transfer is off if it is someone too high up to dismiss (i.e. their club president).

Yes they were saying the same thing a few weeks ago and now everyone's stuck for something to say/write about it's come to the fore again.

1. Possible.

2. Certainly possible.

Leaks of transfer info seem to annoy United much more than other they annoy other clubs.

Or....United could have made their final offer and it's up to Inter/Sneijder to say Yes or No. If that's the case United will sit tight.

3. We're not in for him.

Barca's current crop are built around a core of players who were developed from very young ages. We have the players to try something similar and we've bought players to strengthen our long term plans.

They are also a very, very talented bunch, very unique. Just like our Scholes, Giggs and Beckham were at the time, and Barca are able to produce more and more players of great technical ability. It's gonna take a long time and I guess some modification in youth training (which is being worked on, not just at United but in English football). We won't see that happening for a while, if at all.

We shouldn't look at doing it the Barcelona way because you can't copy cat. We have our own way, and it still involves giving young players a chance and letting them prosper - while completing the team with the odd buy (which Barca actually also do. Villa, Abidal, Alves, Sanchez and Mascherano). In this particular case, I feel we need a more experienced midfielder in order to give us a better chance now. It won't mean our young lads won't get their breakthrough.

People talk about what we need to do to match Barcelona. For a start we could follow their example of putting some faith in our home grown talents and trying to create a team from our own template instead of trying to graft in big names about whom there is no certainty of seeing gel into the system Sir Alex likes to use.

Yeah, they've brought through some incredible players but they have also supplemented this by buying world class footballers for top whack!

We need a Sneijder to improve.

Gasperini after today's match :

....Benitez's syndrome on the market? I do not know what it is, we have not had many players but we had no injuries. Today Stankovic had a fever, had other problems Sneijder, Eto'o is gone, but the team will be complete when it will continue to do well....

It's something to do with his wife, it was widely reported in the Dutch media this morning.

They seem happy enough Tweeting each other all the time.

One Sneijder has already moved this summer, now it's time for the other!

So Beppe Rossi would've become the 30 goal a season man he has at Villareal and got loads of chances if he'd have stayed? Gerard Pique certainly would be first choice Spain centre back if he'd have stayed too?

Players develop with experience and if you're not playing games you can't get that. There's no way the two players I just mentioned above would be anywhere near the level they've achieved after leaving United had they been content to appear 10-15 times a season as understudies.

Fletcher is a horrible example to use as Fletcher emerged when Hargreaves got injured: it took the removal of an obstacle to allow him the run of games in the first XI that were required for him to become one of Fergie's big game players.

If you buy Sneijder at least one of Ando, Cleverley or Pogba stagnates unless two out of the three completely outshine him in which case you're left asking why you spent all the money on him in the first place for?

Look at Barcelona they've flourished since putting their trust in Xavi and Iniesta but when Cocu, Davids, Deco etc. were at the club they were seen as bit part players (don't forget Xavi played against United in the 3-3 at the Nou Camp back in 98/99, loyalty alone kept him waiting patiently.) If you don't give players games no matter how good they are they don't develop and its only been as a result of Pep's Catalan's first policy (which also saved Pedro from being sold) that these guys have flourished.

Pique signed with us for the wrong reasons (ie his father had arguments with Barcelona). Once the argument ended, his move to Barcelona was as evident as Fabregas. One mustn't forget that during that time Evans rose in prominence. The same year Pique left, we signed the Da Silva twins who took the EPL by surprise and a yr after that it was Smalling's turn to do so. That despite having a solid defense with at least 3 world class players in it (Evra-Vidic-Rio). Rossi pissed SAF's off when he demanded to be loaned ASAP. Once he went to Parma it was evident that he would have never returned. Such circumstances would have placed in jeopardy the United' career of a first teamer let alone a kid.

United will always give space to kids and our midfield is so depleted that it can still give enough first team chances to the kids despite us signing 1 quality midfielder. I mean we've lost 2 players (Hargreaves and Scholes), we look set to lose Gibson too and in 1 yrs time we will probably lose Giggs too.

Barca are blessed with something that only occur once every 30 yrs ie a series of extremely talented kids who come up together. However they still had a world class CM to tutor them and lead them to the right direction (Xavi). The Fergie Babes relied heavily on Keane in midfield. We don't have any experienced maestro in CM to cover our kids arse and hold the ranks tight. Giggs is class but he's too old to play week in week out.

Has he been wrong yet? Honestly, when you consider the amount of shite that's been written about Sneijder throughout the rest of the British press this summer, the abuse Howard Nurse gets is unfathomable.

He doesn't tell them what they want to hear. That's the real issue. As you said, numerous other journalists talk bollocks about Sneijder everyday.

Nothing wrong with an English based journalist asking about a foreign player. It beats giving opiniona about a player that you actually know nothing about.

Juan Mata is not unknown or just bursting into the scene. He is 23. He was part of the Spanish team that won the WC. He basically carried Valencia last season and has their third best player before that. If you are a journalist, you at least should have some knowledge about the top players.

He's a BBC editor, not a journalist.

What I've read from British football journalist I don't think they know much about Spanish football in general or watch Valencia at all. Maybe just in the Champions League. Their focus is solely on The Premier League, Championship, Scottish League and the cups that follows.

For what other reason would Sneijder be held out of an Inter match for "personal reasons" if not for an impending transfer ?

Family death, Marriage problems (which is the main rumour), personal depression/breakdown.

Inter Milan boss Gian Piero Gasperini cannot rule out Wesley Sneijder leaving before the transfer deadline.

The Dutchman was excused from training over the weekend for 'personal reasons' amid fresh speculation that Manchester United will make one final bid for him this week.

Gasperini admits he cannot fully plan for the future with Sneijder's status remaining undecided.

“Sneijder’s role depends on the next 15 days of the transfer market,” he said.

Not just the journalists. Remember Shearer in the World Cup? (and I doubt he had much of a clue about Scottish football)

And why would he have marriage problems? Because his wife doesn't want to move to Manchester while he's desperate to do so! Sooooo obvious.

INTER MILAN 'ACCEPT' MANCHESTER UNITED OFFER FOR WESLEY SNEIJDER (DAILY STAR)

INTER MILAN have accepted a £30m offer by Manchester United for Wesley Sneijder, according to reports.

Reports in Italy suggest that Inter Milan have accepted a £30m bid from Manchester United and that Wesley Sneijder is now free to agree terms with the club

The 27-year-old has been widely linked with a move to Manchester United this summer.

Asked if he would be interested in a move to England, Sneijder said "Maybe. I have played in many big competitions in Holland, Spain and Italy and I'm still here. What is going to happen we will see but I am a happy guy."

Inter coach Gian Piero Gasperini, meanwhile, insists he is not losing any sleep over media speculation regarding Sneijder's future with the Serie A club.

"The transfer market closes on 31 August and we have all been trained to live with these rumours for the duration of the season," he said.

Sadly I call "bollox" :(

The same Howard Nurse who believed a story by @TransferSecrets or something like that and tweeted that Modric is coming in for a United medical around 45 days ago? The same Nurse who just tweets the same thing that's being tweeted by most "ITK's"? The same Nurse who was positive we have absolutely no interest in Sneijder and that too was proven untrue?
