Nothing in this story that supports the headline. If anything, I can see him going to Shitty or Chelsea, if he gets a move.

Bought a crystal ball off ebay did you?...The number of clairvoyants on this site is staggering...

He's not going to go to Chelsea who are done with their business. Even if they make one more, it's Modric. Either he stays at Inter or come to us

Just saying that they are the only 2 sides that would pay him the absurd amount of money that he is reportedly asking for. As for us, I have seen no evidence to prove that we are even in for him, just BS in papers, twitter and on here every day.

So what evidence do you need that we're in for him?
Do you think Fergie is gonna publicize his interest or do you think the Club will announce it's summer transfer interest once the window opens?

The evidence that I go on is Fergie saying he is happy enough with what he has got and Inter saying he is staying. I know Fergie is an expert when it comes to smokesceening via comments but I just feel that a lot of this saga has come from reporters trying to sell papers. The same papers, that a few weeks back reported we had signed Nasri and then a couple of days ago, the same papers reporting that we had not even put a bid in.
At the same time I suppose the transfer window would be a little boring without all the speculation. 10 days to go and then we will finally see what really was fact.

The point being that players who aren't mercenaries wouldn't walk the moment the club fails to qualify for CL football (e.g. Reina at Liverpool etc.)

Yeah, I understand that, but the literal meaning of mercenary is somebody who works solely for monetary or material gain.

By suggesting they would leave because they wouldn't have Champions League Football, despite getting paid the same exorbitant wage as if they did, suggests that they are not Mercenaries at all, merely ambitious. Hence the Irony.

I'm sure the likes of Berbatov, Anderson, Nani, Owen, Ferdinand ect ect didn't join for us because they were lifetime loyal fans. They came for Champions League football and the chance for success. It's the same thing really.

I don't think Reina is at Liverpool for loyalty reasons though, I'm sure he's on a fat pay check and he's already said he would leave to join a club, like United, for the chance of success:

'I won’t lie, I want to play in the Champions League and challenge for titles.

'Van der Sar will hang up his gloves in the summer so of course [United] are looking. I can’t do anything. I can’t say anything logically as I have a contract with Liverpool.

'Of course one likes to fight for titles and be in a team that does that. We always fought to be in the Champions League and try to win the title. But unfortunately it hasn’t been the case in the last couple of years.'

Which newspaper really said that we had signed Nasri?
I think it was said that we had put a bid in and it's on the table by majority, only Guardian said that the bid hasn't been made.

The Journo's on Sky Sports dont think this will happen, they point to the fact that all the chatter is coming from Sneijder's end now rather than United's and that Fergie has been put off by his personality/demands and what he might disrupt in the dressing room

Hardly the most reliable source though. Most of them hate United and Sir Alex and are no more ITK than any other journos. Just because it's on TV doesn't make it any less speculation.

Sounds about right. He is dutch after all.

Haven't the Mirror already claimed that Sneijder has signed for United (twice infact).

This thread is making some of you ill - he's not signing for us lads, get used to it.

Sky sports saying the deal for Eto is completed. Can't see them losing Sneijder as well now.

Although I don't trust SSN in the slightest this is a very real concern.

So so unfussed about this potential transfer - our squad is more than good enough to win the league as it is, and he's not the type of signing that will bring us closer to Barcelona. Nice if we get him, but I'd prefer to give Cleverley more time if we're not bringing in a defensive minded midfielder

Why not? What type of signing would bring us closer to Barca if it isn't someone like Sneijder?

No gap would be closen significantly enough with any midfielder we buy.

Look at Madrid and Mourinho. They have bought a team and still can't beat them.

We have the next generation of players coming through. If we can get them in a system of our own and find some gems from the academy to make a breakthrough then we'll stand a chance of becoming the next best team.

Of course Madrid can beat them, they beat them in the Final of the Copa del Rey and outplayed them in both matches of the Spanish Super Cup.

They had much better fitness level in a friendly competition and still got beat.

They won 1 out of 6 matches. Hardly progress is it?

Yeah we could do with a distroyer but we have to pass the ball better. Retain possession and not just passing backwards. You can have a big squad but that doesn't matter so much. It didn't help when the final comes and Nani is on the bench, even if he had of been out of form. It didn't help us. So Sneijder? Nasri? It could be someone we promote or already have - messi will beat players for fun, but if you keep the ball better then you come under less pressure and you can actually pose a threat

'The official reasons speak of "family problems" and, knowing as he does the Security Council today on the news stands, news leaked from Holland to give the reasons for the recent crisis in his marriage to the beautiful Yolanthe Cabau. Crisis, in truth, never confirmed by those directly affected and also refuted by the recent pictures that portray them happy together, and from his Twitter profile from which the same Wes launches frequent signals of love to his young wife.'

I believe we can beat them as well.

Madrid have the benefit of playing them 6 times a season, Madrid also looked a lot worse than we did in that 5-0 drubbing they gave them, yet because they play them numerous times a season, they show they can get closer.

Far too much is being made of that Final. They thoroughly outplayed and beat us, I'm not denying that, but using a single game as a yardstick as to where we both are as clubs is ridiculous. If this club can get to 3 finals in 4 years and win the most competitive league in the world, 4 times out of 5, I'd say we're pretty darn good.

Also, we have one defensive midfielder at the club, each time he's had to miss the final due to unfair suspension and illness. Fletcher's graft in our midfield would have made a huge difference and had we had him, I think Ferguson would have opted for 3 midfielders, as it was, he had to try to use Hernandez to force their backline back but as our wingers were dog shit that day, there was no supply to him and it failed miserably.

So because they didn't beat them, that means that they can't beat them?

They can beat them. However it's clear that Barcelona at this point are the comfortably better side.

I'm using it to prove that no Sneijder will help us win the CL. We need to wait for our next gen of players to develop and then we'll have an experienced group of players.

SAF won't back down from a challenge. Do you think he would sign Jones, De Gea and Young if he wanted to dominate the CL this season? He's planning for the future.

Of course we can beat them, and the more top class players we have, the better our chances are.

I'd say the Championship is a more competitive League than the Premier League, it doesn't matter how competitive the League is though to determine how difficult it is to win, what matters is how strong your strongest opponent is. If it's extremely competitive that doesn't really hinder your chances much, because while you'll drop more points, so will your closest rivals.

We are pretty good, but reaching the Champions League Final in itself isn't such a fantastic achievement for any club. If the draw had gone differently we could have ended up facing Real Madrid or Barcelona in the Quarter Finals and been dumped out there. As it was we faced Chelsea, a team well past their best, and a dreadful outfit from Germany who'd fluked a result against Inter, and we comfortably beat with our second string.

Unfair suspension , he made a stupid, unnecessary tackle and he walked for it. Anywhere else on the pitch no-one would have had a problem with it being called a foul. The illness thing is a fair shout but I don't think he'd have made much difference. We'd still have been thouroughly outclassed in midfield, and if he'd played like he had done for the rest of the season we'd have been better off with 10 men.

They can beat them. However it's clear that Barcelona at this point are the comfortably better side.

They are a better side, that's true, and if we signed Sneijder, we wouldn't be a better side than them. I don't understand this thinking though, that if a player won't make us better than Barcelona, we shouldn't sign them. We have a chance of beating Barcelona with our current side, and the more top class players we have, the better our chances become.

If Ferguson is signing players not to win the Champions League then backing down from a challenge is exactly what he's doing. He's either waiting for this Barcelona team's cycle to end (I have my doubts about these cycles he talks about) or he's waiting to retire and let the next guy have a go.
