Wesley Sneijder

Seems amazing that a club which won five straight league titles, the treble, the 2010 Supercoppa Italiana, and the FIFA Club World Cup should have financial problems.

The answer lies in how they won those trophies.

What all £20m of it.. Most of the Eto'o sale is going to Eto not Inter!!

I suppose he got a massive wage. Maybe that would relieve that wage structure, but you never know. I still believe we've got a shot at signing him, but it may drag to the last day once again...

I'm sure he's on good wages at Inter too. I just find it funny that people read Sneijder is untouchable but yet miss out straight after he mentions getting Tevez, Folan etc... This is the same club that told their manager all signings will be funded by sales within the squad. So unless Eto is going for something like £60m no way are they getting the players mentioned.

Inter holding off for transfer request as sneijder would then give up a percentage of fee... Sneijder doesnt wanna do this hence moratti comments about untouchable rubbish... All parties want deal done but its a game of cat and mouse as mega money involved... It will be done. Hopefully by Monday. Things moving forward. Could it take longer ? Yes of course. No backup targets like goetze ATM... wages agreed for a week or so. Just a few image right issues to sort problem is Inter.

Inter hoping he 'requests' a transfer has been my understanding of the delay ever since he chose his words quite carefully and stated that he was very happy at Inter but if they choose to sell me I'd be happy to make the move.

It's a game of Poker that's all.

The truth is, we could've saved 2 players salaries and 35m quid by being happy with Lindegaard/Amos/PIG and Smalling/Evans and not adding De Gea and Jones to the squad.

I could even include Young in that considering our wing cover.

So yes, we had money for a Sneijder, but if we don't buy him it's because SAF doesn't think one single player is worth that, not because we don't have the money.

FACT!

SAF must realize that in todays market you have to pay to get a world class midfielder.. we are weak in this area and in order to compete with the likes of barcelona and yes man city now, we need to strengthen our midfield and even if that means paying over the odds to get Sneijder. Its no time to continue depending on the likes of Carrick, Fletcher etc.. they are far away from being World Class.. Bring on the Ronaldo Money.. Where is it??? Its been 3 years now..

Yeah, right. The next Solius, I imagine.

Jesus, could this saga please end NOW?! I honestly hate this hot and cold rubbish. If he signs though, I will go absolutely nuts...

valencia18m, chicharito 7m, smalling 12m, jones 18m, young 18m, de gea 20m. 80m gone just likd tat

The twitter bit wasn't mine (that was posted in the twitter thread)

I just agreed to that comment stating that I could see why Inter may be waiting for him to put in a request and also why he's holding off putting one in and stating he's happy where he is. After all neither Inter or Sneijder will want to instigate proceedings.

I'm bored of it - but would be happy if he came.

It's not about being negative at all - we have a great, very talented squad but I still think that signing Sneijder would really solve our creativity problem in the short-term.

Gibson OUT, Sneijder IN. There will be still enough playing time for the Cleverley too.

We've got a quality side with a weak CM.

I was responsible for posting that from Twitter on here. I did not make it up or post it myself.

In the Inter squad, unlike Eto'o. Looks like he's staying.

It s a tug of war. If sneijder asks for a transfer he risks losing out on 7m.
My impression is that we were not prepared to pay more than a certain amount, due to his age. The italian media have recently reported that both united and city's interest cooled off. City apparently because of nasri.
As things are, i dont think we ll sign sneijder but i m sure that he ll leave inter soon. They re looking to trim their massive wage bill and at the same time rebuild their ageing team and they need both eto and sneijder money to do so. They re still hoping that another team like anzhi comes knocking the door and sneijder accepts to join them. United and city seem to be part of their plan b...

I'm sure Inter will put him in their CL squad as well and people will say he's not moving :)

I wish Inter had to qualify for the CL and were playing qualifiers this week. Could have ended this saga!

Wait, what.... You'd have had nothing to do this summer without this thread.

Warning: This thread is for discussion about the transfer rumour, updates, the merits of buying the player etc. It is not for cheap wums, increasing your post count and general forum type posting. Any spamming and you will lose your access to the transfer forum for good. Stay on topic!

Ha, knew you couldn't keep the thread locked for long... there was always going to be another statement from one of the parties involved, which had to be discussed. As I've said before, I don't understand any reason for shutting threads anyway, if people don't like them they don't have to read them (though I agree with the points above).

Anyway, I've missed today's developments, is the long and short that Inter have said he's definitely not for sale, and everybody has interpreted this as a clear message that we're buying him? Plus ca change, lock the thread.:smirk:

They've also included him in their squad (haven't done so with Eto'o) but most people* see that as a chess move - an attempt to lure us into making a formal bid.

*not really

Right.

Of course, the worry is that the transfer window closes with Sneijder still at Inter, and everybody sees this as a transparent tactical manoeuvre which pretty much proves that we're signing him...

Hmmm...where have I seen that one before...

I think the squad is set for the season now, I'd have loved a deep lying playmaker to have been brought in but was never bothered about Sneijder, and his money driven approach hasn't endeared him either.

The italian clubs business structure is still primitive (in terms of merchandizing, sponsors etc) and they struggle to fill the stadium with supporters week in week out. In few words they are heavily reliant on the owner to balance the books.

Yeah he's put something like £800m of his own loot into the club - out of a whopping £1billion invested over the years...

I have this image in my head of them both on raised platforms fighting gladiator style.
