Wesley Sneijder

No. No. Personal terms were already agreed. The fee was the stumbling block. :D

And you call yourself a muppet? (Well you probably never did but I needed a good entrance for that post)

The stumbling block were always the personal terms...you know his high wage demands and so on...

They've changed their 'story' based on Moratti's comments about Sneijder being untouchable. Now it's Inter that stand in the way whereas previously it was Sneijder when the discourse "we'll sell if we get a good offer."

Predictable.

Whether we get Sneijder or not, i dont think it should deflect on how good a squad we have. Fergie can always seem to get an extra 10% or more effort, out of what the media claimed last season, as an "average squad".

Us Reds have become obessed this Summmer with building a mid-field that can cope with Barca's, of which Barca are already in this seasons Champions League final by default. I think we've covered every "great" mid-fielder in world football & we still havent signed anyone. The next couple of weeks are gonna be foooking PMS City on here, every feckers gonna either be on their period or on the receiving end of someone on their period

After the Champions League final, like most of us - i felt we are well behind Barca (in mid-field) & that bothered the feck outta me. Then the Summer kicked in & we made some good signings, coupled with another season under the belts of the younger lads in the squad, the U-18's & Reserve team squads also. There are many reasons to be very positive & if we dont win the Champions League anytime soon that'll be shit, but whats more important is that the structure of the club to keep winning things is excellent.

I am very excited about whats to come for us Reds over the next 10 years. The young players that will progress to the first team squad is better than its ever been under Fergie (bar 1992). Whats more important, is that the club can continue to sustain success & throw 2 fingers up to the ideal that football success comes in cycles. Liverpool have been used as the figurehead of that mantra, that was their time, then it was someone elses - ours.

I dont agree with that logic because Liverpool didnt plan ahead after 1990, (as most teams didnt do in previous era's) when they should have been planning ahead all along. They left it too late to replace the great players that won them so much & the conveyor belt of talent just wasnt there. Either young players weren't being given a chance or that their scouting system was well below the standards that other clubs were operating in at that time. Compare that to us & you'll see a club that builds on success & never sits back gloatin on what a great season it was - thats left to the fans to do!

The doom & gloom of the Barca defeat is a bitter one, but what most fans will agree on - is that they'd have beaten most, if not any team in that final, so we shouldnt be obsessed with them as much as we have been & just get on with what we do best - win trophies, play great football & entertain us fans.

With or without Sneijder, you need a bitta luck to win the Champions League - Barca may not need it most of the time, but that doesnt mean they're unbeatable in the near future, a near future when it could be our turn to dominate Europe.

Keep the faith & enjoy the season

No. Bring on the PMS I say.

The Daily Star and Tribal football (who must have picked it up from the Star) seem to think we've agreed personal terms and a fee needs to be agreed.
The Daily Star have got that off Twitter. Story changes with newspapers depending on who's tweets they read. They have no reliable sources of their own, United keep their transfer info close to their chest, so they have to make do with twitter stuff.

The truth is totally obvious: we've agreed a fee for a player who's not for sale with a bid we've never made for a player we haven't contacted but who's willing to lower his wage demands to a level we never requested. All we need to do now is pay Inter the money that they don't want and Wesley won't be ours.

Don't forget his wife who definitely does not want to break into tv in the UK.

He'll be holding the United jersey and shaking hands with Fergie before September 1st :)

Well, I hope you're right, mate. :)
You really should have Defender of the Muppet Faith as your tagline. :D

What a load of nonsense. United arent competing with City financially, City arent competing at all. They're being bankrolled & FFP is gonna feck that all up. They have no business plan - we do & its the best business plan in world sport. The float is about paying of some of the debt off or 1st steps in paving the way for the Glazers to sell United..

You've summed up this entire thread.

I don't know if this thread deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, but this post certainly does.

I doubt we'll be able to say much more than this before he signs (or doesn't).

When he said he is ready to lower his wage demands by £60,000 what exactly did he mean? Was it down from £200,000 a week or down from £250,000 a week?

His initial demand was 60k a week and now he's ready to play for free.

Well - he hasn't confirmed his undying love for Inter Milan and claimed he's staying & that despite attractive interest from elsewhere he loves Milano!

Until he says that I believe anything's possible.

Even saying all that wouldn't really mean he's staying!

Out of interest though, how long does he have left in his contract with Inter? Because something tells me that they won't offer him a new contract with the same wages, heck they might not even offer the wages we've supposedly offered him.

In which case he has a choice of taking a paycut to play for us, or taking a potentially larger paycut a few years down the line (unless City come sniffing of course)

Running till 2015. He signed a contract extension last year the fecker.

He signed an extension last year in October, which keeps him at the club until the summer of 2015.
