Wesley Sneijder

I think something like this will happen. If the reports of Inter's finances being way out of the FFP regulations are true and they need to sort it out fast, taking a huge wage off their bill, plus a good transfer price for him could equate to around £50m+ for their net income.

From Inter's point of view, best case scenario is £35m from us, Sneijder off the wage bill: £35m + 4 years of £10m in wages = £75m This won't happen.

If Sneijder stayed, as will be the case if an agreement isn't reached, he'd cost them £40m over the next 4 years and they wouldn't get a transfer fee so it would cost them -£40m.

So if Inter are really pushed and want to pull into shape for the FFP, they could accept £25m for him and gave him a £10m loyalty bonus to get him off their accounts, They might only make £15m from his transfer, but that would save £40m in wages, meaning for their accounts they would be £55m better off than letting him stay.

It's possible.

Ofcourse it is. He's going to be a Red Devil.

If Sneijder costs too much then we can always aim for other targets. Players like Gotze and Ganzo would still improve our CM and has the potential to prove better value for money.

I don't think I've ever heard "red devil" outside of American commentary and message boards or the occasional convenient headline pun...I've certainly never heard anyone say it in real life.

It's an odd one that. I can certainly see why it's taken off in America, where they're obsessed with nick names and seem to have a pathalogical hatred of saying actual normal team names in full. The rest I assume is down to marketing, possibly?

Good use of coulor there Pexbo.

Lovely wasn't it, I originally previewed the post and felt the - symbol lacked the striking effect I desired. A blood red to represent the negative value really made the point.

I appreciate your appreciation.

I am not making a mockery of your post. This is merely a question Devilish. Do you think if Sneidjer comes here, he will be a flop, as in he will find it difficult to adapt?

I think that he'll settle well in the EPL. There's a big difference between Veron (different school of football, Veron had to compete with Scholes etc) and Sneijder. I mean I can't think of any good Dutch player who had failed to impress at United.

Regarding Götze - firstly when was the last time a truly world class German player moved to the PL or United? He's a very unlikely target - far more likely to stay in the BL and move to Bayern.

Also, isn't he essentially a winger? We're hardly in need of another.

Ballack moved to Chelsea, I don't know of any German internationals we've ever had.

Both Klinsmann and Ballack have moved to the EPL a couple of years back. Our interest in German players was undeniably low but maybe that's the reason why we have recently employed a former Hamburg scout.

I am not saying that it would be easy but we've got a realistic chance of getting him if we wanted. United can offer him very competitive salaries (when compared to the other guys in the Bundersliga), a chance to play at the highest level and a realistic chance of winning the CL. He's not out of our league yet. Unfortunately its only a matter of time before the usual Real/Barca start circling around this guy

much depends on bayern - they always seem to have the first option on young players based in germany

I've got a great little book from the 70s called The Red Devils' Disciples, with some cracking photos in it especially of the derby. I'll lend you it if you do a rap battle between Ice Cube, David Starkey and that "Muslamic rape gangs" EDL spacker.

Is the deal for Sneijder not dead? I keep seeing this thread active yet SAF and now even the media say its not happening? Have I missed some info?

The situation hasn't changed since SAF said it wouldn't happen weeks ago. There's just been an endless perpetuating cycle of desperate hope on forums and media regurgitation of anything which vaguely signifies he might still come to us

We could do with him though.
Not signing tomorrow then eh?

He would be handy, sure.

Team morale is great right now, we seem to have a good few young players progressing quickly and at 35M and 200 odd grand a week, it's too much, or at least that's how I think the club are looking at it.

As a player, he should be honored that we may want him, when the stumbling point of getting his signature is because of even more, ridiculous amounts of money, then it's takes some glamour away from the transfer, for me.

I want the players we sign to be eager and determined to play for this club. If the decision is fueled by wages then I'll be disappointed, and as it stands, it seems that's the reason why he's holding off.

You evil people, you ran the muppet out of his own thread because of that shameful red devil think.

think again. i'll bet you've heard all the pl nicknames said on the pl review show.

I can't believe people are STILL posting in this thread when we're PLAYING IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE.

fecking hell.

We get your point. We really do. You don't need to post the same thing every single time we play a match.

I really don't see your point. Do you know if they posted during half time? And whats the difference between posting in a matchday thread and this one?

I'll happily sit on my phone and browse the Internet whilst watching United. It may strike some people as blasphemous but our games are rarely thrill-a-minute affairs and there's often lulls in tempo which can be a bit dull.

Have I lost top-red points?

Radio Italia are also claiming that Sneijder has lowered his wage demands and his reps will hold talks with Gill tomorrow.

Lets see if it's yet more bullshit or not.

It's not really being a 'top red' but it seems that a lot of people are more interested in posting in here, transfer speculation, laughing at Liverpool etc than actually watching United play. I get that some people can't watch the games an rely on matchday threads but watching the games is the best part of being a United fan.

Any proper source for this or did some twitter person 'hear' it on the radio?

I don't know what that is?...Do you mean Match of the Day?...If so, no.

Some teams have nicknames that are used a lot yeah, some are more common than others, but I've never heard anyone in real life that I've actually met call us the "Red Devils" and it's very rarely used in media here...Just like no one calls Chelsea "The Pensioners" and very few call Spurs the "Lilywhites" when they can say Spurs.

It's just not something that's ever really said by people here. Certainly not in commentary. We're always United, or Man Utd, or Man Utd. However whenever I've watched US Commentary it's near constant.

It's not a problem or anything. I just find it odd it's taken off in other countries and not here. There must be a reason for it.
