Wesley Sneijder

I'm sure he'll end up moving soon enough. We're just trying to get the price down for him and this will probably drag on for a while.

The fact that he's holidaying in the middle of their pre season says a lot. He's definitely going to leave imo.

Added to that, his obvious dissatisfaction with Gasperini's tactical approach. This is not mere wishful thinking on my part: it should be obvious to anyone that Inter are - if not in decline - currently (and in-future, it seems) less than an attractive prospect for a player of Sneijder's class and career options. That is...if he actually values ambition over money. We shall see...

Sneijder remains keen on a move to the Premier League champions but his agent, Soren Lerby, has refused to accept the financial package on offer, which would mean his client taking a pay cut to leave the San Siro.

With a final offer on the table and neither side prepared to negotiate any further, it would seem that the move is now doomed unless there is a drastic shift in attitude from one of the parties involved.

United officials are now adamant that, as far as they are concerned, the matter is closed.

Manchester United no longer negotiating for Inter's Wesley Sneijder but the saga continues - Goal.com
Seems to be the situation alright, cant see Utd budging.

By October Sneijder will be paying higher taxes in Italy than in England and by next season he'll be paying 13% more taxes. So it makes sense financially as well to move to United and ofcourse he'll get to win trophies with us.

VD Kraans had said 3-4 weeks ago that the deal will happen but it won't be easy and that's proving to be true.

You can't analyse players tax positions using standard rates like that, the utilise every tax planning opportunity available to them and simply do not pay anywhere near normal rates.

R_Nick and WR8 if you turn this into a tax discussion God help me I will hunt you down and slay you where you stand.

What happened?

One of these big overdramatic montages of how these legends of Manchester such as VDS, Scholes, Neville have left and the enemy from the blue side of the city is growing in power. Only one man can stop them...Sneijder-man! Picture of Sneijders head in a spiderman outfit with the united badge on his chest.

RIOTS IN MANCHESTER....oh wait...already been there. WORLD WAR 3.

Gds claims there was a verbal agreement between Moratti & Mancio on Sneijder,in which didn't materialize later. Wesley didn't deny being in contact with #MUFC. Although his demands of a higher wage than Rooney is an obstacle. Wesley is confused and undecided on his future with #Inter, will have to clarify this when he gets back from his vacation at Ibiza.

Poor Sneijder needs our help.

I still don't think we're after him. The papers are making up shit to cover their backs now. Both United and Inter have said all along that the papers have created this one.

United generally don't comment on transfer speculation, but from Gill's quotes, SAF's quotes and Sneijder himself to just dismiss it is a rather odd stance to take.

Of course legitimate tax avoidance takes place, but the standard rates are surely applicable as a starting point?

If both clubs say that it's the papers that are making this story up, then I'm sure that is the truth. I don't know why, but I've just had a feeling that this was the case all along. I think it's probably because I dint think we'd go for Sneijder.

The papers have not made the whole story up. Why would Sneijder say there was "unofficial contact" then?

Exactly. People need to face facts, we are pursuing him. If we don't sign him then it's not automatically because "we were never after him".

You guys are NUTS if you think this is a fabrication by the papers.

WAKE UP AND SMELL THE ROSES!!!

1. Meulensteen says we want him in public.

2. SAF says in public that it is difficult.

3. Cass tells us that we made an offer to the boy. Okay, this IS a journalist, but when SAF confronts him Cass tells SAF that SAF DID INDEED say this & that Cass was happy to show SAF his notes!

Note that SAF was fuming. You don't fume if it is all made up!!! You just dismiss it as normal everyday nonsense!

4. Sneijder confirms he's had unofficial contact with United & that there's a chance he'll be at United this season!

5. Van der Vaart, Sneijder's mate and van Kraan who is also in touch with Sneijder both admit that something is happening.

6. Sneijder's father is on record as saying they had an offer weeks ago.

7. Inter know about an offer but at the time said that no offer had been made to them!

Yet despite all of these semi-official evidence not made up by the papers - you think this transfer saga is a complete fabrication?

WTF!!!

Some people just can't read and say things like 'SAF said this' when he didn't at all. This post underneath sums it up pretty well....

Exactly. People need to face facts, we are pursuing him. If we don't sign him then it's not automatically because "we were never after him".

...It's quite obvious we are/were in for him, the player himself said that, but if it doesn't happen then it's not because it's a fabrication, it's just for other reasons.

Worked out alright in 1995. Once upon a time, the great ginger magician was just a kid himself, but people put their faith in him.

Of course this is different times, but if they have talent then let's see it and let's test it. Yes I do think we need a proper good midfielder, but at the end of the day it won't be the end of the world if we fail to get one.

I agree completely, although it is different times and you can't compare the game today to the game in 1995 as it's evolved into a harder sport.

I agree he should be tested, and if he has talent he should be given the opportunity, however 'being tested' doesn't mean 50+ games a season. He will get lots of chances but he's not our number 1. Our current first pick isn't good enough, therefore we need to reinforce it. That's what my point was centred around that kids get their chances, but our current first pick gets found out every week, so it needs strengthening.

Add to that:

8. Sneijder's wage demands are a fecking joke and we tell him to feck off.
9. Fergie says that we will rely on our promising youngsters and that we can forget about any new signings.

The papers have not made the whole story up. Why would Sneijder say there was "unofficial contact" then?

 unofficial contact. What is that? Did Inter have a missed call from David Gill or something?

I saw what he said in that interview. He dismissed it and said there was nothing happening, but that there might have been 'unofficial contact'. That could mean anything. He clearly didn't intend to say that we were after him though as his stance all along has been that he doesn't know anything about it, only what the papers have said.

I think you have your head in the sand a bit on this one, it pretty obvious we have had an interest in him, as we did Nasri. I wouldn't rule out a swoop before the end of the transfer window, as we've seen countless times in the past, what SAF says in a press conference compared to what actually happens often doesn't match up.

'I’m certainly not looking to add anybody. I’ve been saying that for weeks, but you’ve all been writing differently, you’ve all been writing about how I’m going to buy this one, I’m going to buy that one but we’ve said nothing, I’m carrying on with business'
- Sir Alex Ferguson to the press.

Pretty much fits in with what I've been saying. Not to mention the fact that Inter said exactly the same thing. I couldn't care less what some journalist and a Tottenham Hotspur player seem to think they know about what we are trying to do in the market.

As the manager has said in the past, we are in contact with a lot of players and agents all the time. We'll enquire about all different players and plan on making moves for them in the present and in the future. I have said in this thread that we may have enquired about Sneijder. But the rest of the stuff about us offering £32 million etc. is nonsense. I honestly think this has been blown way overboard both in the media and on RedCafe.

I'm aware that Fergie often lies to cover things up until they're official etc. But why would Inter say the same thing? If we were interested then they'd want the whole world to know in order to attract rival bids. The fact that overbody that matters seems bemused by this one just makes me think that the media are leading us all a merry dance with how serious this Sneijder 'interest' really is.

Everytime i see this thread on the top of the page then when i click on it and all i see are pointless crap not relating to him coming to Carrington for a medical at least, i died a little inside :(

You said 'I don't think we're after him' and have pretty much contradicted yourself here, that's all I was picking up on.

I am told that there has been a break through in the Sneijder talks. Very much back on I am told and this is from the Sneijder family itself who leaked this in last 40 seconds

And what is Sneijder doing in Ibiza if we're supposed to be entering the final round of talks with him? These are the actions of a man that is comfortable where he is and is relaxing for the new season, not thrashing out a deal to move to England.

Thing is why is he holidaying in the middle of Inter's pre-season? As a matter of fact, are any of Inter players currently holidaying as well?

Pocco wake up!!!

I think you need to understand what it is to read between the lines. There are 3 reason SAF says this:-

1. Good negotiating position - helps to play the reluctant buyer so that Inter can't just bump the price up.

2. If it doesn't come off he can show to younger players that he has full trust in them.

3. If it doesn't come off it doesn't look like a failure on behalf of Manchester United.

SAF also said earlier this season that we weren't signing De Gea "I looked in the papers and apparently I'm signing 2 players from Italy so I can place this story with the other 2!"

SAF has said before that there is nothing happening 'at this time'. This doesn't mean the story is fabricated. It means there is no move going ahead at this time. I believe him. What he means is this:

"our position is clear - we've made an offer to the player, the player wants us to up our offer, we're not going to so that means I have full faith in our young players and cannot see anyone else arriving."

However, if Sneijder comes back and accepts the position something could go ahead. BTW in my points above I forgot to say that Gill indicated that something could happen quickly - although both SAF and Gill don't want to name individual players out of respect - SAF has admitted that Inter don't want to sell!

However - I do believe that Inter have accepted our offer to them - and it is now down to us agreeing personal terms with Sneijder. It is worth bearing in mind that we've ALWAYS much preferred players accepting less because they want to play for us and we usually don't pay the highest wages.

While you are right to say that nothing is happening. You are wrong to say that the newspapers made this story up. I know from inside information that Sneijder was always (apart from De Gea) our Number 1 target this summer - however, we'll walk away if it means breaking our wage structure.

How have I contradicted myself though? By saying we may have enquired?

To me, an enquiry doesn't mean much and I don't class that as being after him. I don't think our interest has gone beyond an enquiry and therefore I don't believe we are after him.

I don't think you understand me. I know full well how to read between the lines with Fergie and that he doesn't always tell the truth in order to give us a good negotiating position. I understand that. Trust me, I did it all last summer with Ozil and the previous year I was in full muppet mode for Benzema. What I'm saying is that I think he's telling the truth, for once, in this situation. It's just a hunch I've had.

Obvioulsy if you really are ITK then you are dealing with facts as you must know Fergie or Gill yourself. Unfortunately I, like everyone else, have to try and guess based on what we hear in the media and from past experience.

For what it's worth, I think we were probably very interested in Nasri.

And what is Sneijder doing in Ibiza if we're supposed to be entering the final round of talks with him? These are the actions of a man that is comfortable where he is and is relaxing for the new season, not thrashing out a deal to move to England.

Yeah but it's standard procedure for players to be chilling out on a 5 day vacation in Ibiza during pre season training.

And pocco, Sneijder won't be sitting and discussing terms with our reps himself. That's the job of his Agent. I'd be more worried if his Agent/reps were holidaying in Ibiza.

was it Sylvia? Jeffrey? Barry? Rod? Jane? Freddy?

Bazalini's uncle used to run a fish and chips shop in amsterdam and barry used to work as a security the coffee shop next door. Bazalini junior used to spend lots of time in the coffee shop too...
