Sneijder talks with #MUFC abandoned. Player demands too expensive. Move off for now. Poss talks resume before window closes. #Inter

We're signing him then

gambit stop drooling over the prospect of us getting Hamsik next summer. It's not happening because we'll be signing Wesley in the next 18 days.

Sneijder >> Hamsik

Did Twitter tell you that?

McGarry is no better than the other "ITK's". His Tweets just look more ITKish than the others.

Lock this thread so we can all be freed from it's grip.

I don't follow mcgarry, in fact i follow about 10 people on twitter. My earlier no more signings came from one of them, the other 8 aren't United related or football related.

He's such a bullshitter  It could very well be off but he just goes along with what everyone else is saying and makes up the smaller details.

Absolutely. As I said, he just frames his tweets better and makes himself sound "official".

Se we could end up not singing him because either party cant compromise on 20 or 30k :wenger:

He's on about 250k now, the highest paid player at our club is about 180k.

Reasonable enough for you?

And how sure are you about this 250k a week figure? I remember reading a list of highest earners in Serie A and I'm pretty sure he was nowhere near that figure.

Remember reading this :
Jan 2011 (after Sneijder signed his new and improved contract)
Top ten earners in football:

1) Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) - €12M
2) Wayne Rooney (Manchester United) - €11.5M
3) Lionel Messi (Barcelona) - €11M
4) Yaya Toure (Manchester City) - €10.8M
5) Samuel Eto'o (Inter Milan) - €10.5M
6) Bastian Schweinsteiger (Bayern Munich) - €9.7M
7) Zlatan Ibrahimovic (AC Milan) - €9M
8) Kaka (Real Madrid) - €9M
9) John Terry (Chelsea) - €9M
10) Emmanuel Adebayor (Manchester City) - €9M

There might be slight inaccuracies but no Sneijder doesn't really seem to be on 250k a week, no?

Unless people think Fergie never wanted him, I'm not sure why they would be happy we're (possibly) not getting him. Surely it's BAD news if the manager doesn't get who he wants? If he felt we were strong enough in midfield, he wouldn't try and spend a penny, let alone tens of millions.

Hellboy, not sure how your suggestion helps. Surely signing another young talent would just put another obstacle - this time long term - in front of our own young lads? This is why I think Sneijder is the right deal. It would give us instant class but won't prevent us from letting the young lads progress.

Unless there are any objections I am going to close this thread.

speak now or forever hold your tongue (you have until 21.45)

Fergie wants to see how his midfield fares at the start of the season before closing the door for Sneijder.. At the moment he doesn't like the idea of spending that much money on Sneijder, especially if we get good results in our first couple of games in the league..

So wr8_utd, if you REALLY want to see Sneijder with United, you better hope we get bad results at the start of the season..

It's over, I've moved on now and am now worrying about who'll be available next year

It gives Cleverly 2 weeks to really convince SAF that it's a waste of money. I like Sneijder but there would be far more satisfaction in seeing Cleverly really grasp the opportunity.

I hope everyone can agree with this.

Well we are traditionally slow starters anyway so I don't think Fergie would be too distressed if we started badly. Certainly not enough to suddenly make him get Sneijder (if he had no intention of before the results).

I still fully expect Sneijder to sign for us.

The riots really messed up stuff for the papers who now have nothing to write about and hence keep coming up with the baseless stories about the deal being dead! Maybe there will be movement by Monday or whenever Sneijder's pre season Holiday ends.

PS: Goodbye Sneijder thread!

I believe that Cleverley has the ability to make it. I had full faith in him even last season, in fact I had mixed feelings about whether he should been sent on loan or not.

However I can't see why one would think that by signing Sneijder we're ruining Cleverley's career. First of all because if a player is good enough than he'll earn his place (there was a time Fletcher was our 5th choice midfielder behind Scholes, Anderson and new boys Hargreaves and Carrick). Secondly one mustn't forget that our center midfield has just lost Scholes, Hargreaves and our main source of creativity (Giggs) is 38 yrs old. Considering that Gibson will be sold and that there are still question marks about Fletcher's fitness, we would need a CM irrespectively on whether one believes in Cleverley or not. .
