Wesley Sneijder

Yeah you predicted that we'll go for Stekelenburg and not De Gea as it'll be too expensive for us. You also predicted that we'll go for Charlie Adam. Whenever we're linked with a big name player, you've an habit of coming into threads and telling us "muppets" there's no chance in hell we're gonna sign that player. So yeah, it's not outrageous to say that you've been acting like a pessimist in the transfer forums for far too long.

All I said was that it's possible that we might go for Stekelenburg and it'd make sense due to value in that transfer. We went for De Gea.

I never said we would definitely go for Charlie Adam, only that it was a possibility because he was inexpensive and was praised by Ferguson on one or two occasions.

I said we wouldn't sign two midfielders like plenty on here predicted, and that we might not sign even one if we cannot get him at a decent price and it'd be hard to do that because everyone knows how much we need a midfielder. Ferguson and Gil have basically said exactly the same thing on the subject recently.

I predicted we wouldn't spend over £30m in the window and I might be wrong about this as our net spend at the moment is around £42m (assuming De Gea cost £17m, Young cost £15m and Jones cost £16m as it has been reported, while O'Shea went for £4m and Brown cost £2m) and the only way it will go below £30m is if we sell Berbatov. We will most likely still sell Kuszczak as we don't need him but he will cost £4m tops, Gibson will probably go for a similar price and Diouf won't cost much above £1m.

I can see us signing Sneijder if Inter agree to do the deal at a decent price and he doesn't demand a raise himself. At £38m plus £200k a week that has been reported I think we wouldn't do the deal, but that's just my opinion.

Perhaps I've been a little pessimistic but I cannot see where I would be so wrong that it needs to be pointed out every single time I come to a thread.

Apart from my good self, everyone had done at least 1 big mistake on this forum.

Sir Alex's answers could be construed anyway you want them to be.

About Sneijder.
Taken one way - the club has said nothing it's the papers making it up, we're not signing him.
Another way - the club has said nothing it's the papers making it up but it's on.

The only constant is that there is no real info coming from the club.

On Berba
Taken one way - could he play for PSG - yes easy he's a bloody good player who can play with anyone.
Taken another - could he play for PSG - yes we've already sold him.

Easy to be a journo and make things up from, not all that, cryptic replies.

Sneijder better not get injured on Saturday. I don't like Inter taking risks with our player.

I'd rather he came to us, if he does at all, sharp & match fit...

If he was already here, would you not want him to play in the Charity Shield?

He can get injured anytime, training, preseason, competitive matches...

I'm more worried about any of our players getting injured in these ridiculous August international friendlies...what a waste of time...

If Inter sell Sneijder, what player would they be looking to get to replace him with? Have they had any transfers lately or rumours that could indicate something's on?

That is their problem to deal with but the big question right now is will we be able to sign Sneijder first?

sorry to burst your bubble :)

Inter have made it clear that they want Manchester United target Wesley Sneijder to remain at San Siro.

The Dutchman’s future is in some serous doubt as he continues to be linked with the Old Trafford outfit.

“Is he leaving? Yes, for training…” smiled Inter director Ernesto Paolillo. “Joking aside, Sneijder is an integral part of our squad.

“A lot of what you read in the newspapers about this situation doesn’t correspond with reality,” the official added.

“When it comes to Sneijder, it is our full intention that he stay here with us.”

United are apparently ready to offer around £30m for the former Real Madrid man who arrived at Inter in 2009.

Sneijder has been tested in a central midfield role by new Inter boss Gian Piero Gasperini in his 3-4-3 system.

I read that they already had quite a number of midfielders on their books. Maybe they've already got replacement there at the club. I know they've changed the system with the new manager?

Either way, not bothered as long as we Sneijder!

wtf?

Old Trafford 'outfit', what a fecking insult

Or is this a translation or something?

Yep. If I recall correctly he was even infracted after wandering from thread to thread in here saying "we won't sign him."

Whats the odds that we are sitting tight waiting for Chelsea to agree a price for Modric before we jump on that and the Wes thing is just a smokescreen at everyones expense.

Doesn't mean anything tbh, it's every teams intention that all their best players stay with them. They still get sold when the right money comes in.

At least you have admitted that you will "probably" be wrong.

Because I don't think we are going to break our transfer record for yet another winger when we have already spent about £50m this Summer and will probably need a midfielder or two as well? I already admitted I will probably be wrong about net spend less than £20m but how the hell are we expected to spend £120m+ all of a sudden?

Inter saying it's "their intention" to keep Sneijder alludes more to him going than staying to be honest. It's perfect terminology to use when you don't want to commit to saying "we're keeping him" but want to make it clear that any transfer will come at a price that means Inter can say "we intended to keep him but we couldn't refuse the bid".

It's been the same 'news' for weeks now.

No, you didn't. You predicted we wouldn't spend over £20 million. Do you need me to bump the thread?

Perhaps, I meant in the thread where we were supposed to predict how much we were going to spend I picked below £30m.

Actually, if Berbatov does go for £19m to Paris (possible, not very likely), and we sell Kuszczak and Gibson at £4m each (both probable), we will have earned £27m back which would put as at net spend of £20m but it won't happen and I'm not afraid to admit that I was wrong on that one.

You are forgetting the Oshea/Brown money

£4m for O'Shea and £2m for Brown, wasn't it? Basically £6m combined, regardless of how much each of them cost.

We won't drop below £20m though, I don't think so, so I was basically wrong. Even if we earn £20m+ on Berbatov, Kuszczak and Gibson we will most likely spend that on a midfielder.

Nevertheless I haven't been that wrong this Summer thus far, so I don't really understand why I'm getting so much stick. People who have predicted us to spend £80m+ and buy two class midfielders have been way more off the mark yet no one attacks them each time they come to this threads. It's hard being a transfer market pessimist. :(

£5m for O'Shea and £1m for Brown I think it was but yes, £6m combined.

Also, this Sneijder business is boring. What on earth do you guys get to talk about every day in here? Has there been an update on the supposed transfer or something?

The same update pops up every four or five days i.e. Ferguson or Gill say that nothing has happened an we aren't working on anything, or Inter say they want to keep him. It's been like that for a month.

OliverKay on his webchat regarding Sneijder

"I made the mistake of disregarding their reported Sneijder interest for a while, but it's absolutely genuine and, what's more, it has been clear for the past fortnight that he's very "gettable". If they're prepared to push the boat out far enough, they'll get him."

This sums up my feelings now.

No I'm not a middle aged lesbian, because if I was, I wouldn't be on here - i'd be touching myself somewhere.
