Wesley Sneijder

Our away home form was atrocious and maybe a lot of it stemmed from midfield but, that was a CM that was being chopped and changed around. With a Sneijder coming in that's only going to become worse.

If we start with a CM of Carrick/Anderson as our first choice for most games and thrown in Fletcher in a CM 3 or Giggs with Cleverly as a backup, I think we'll do a lot better than the constant different partnerships.

First of all, I don't see why signing Sneijder should make it worse. If we have such a top class player who can also play quite regularly - we haven't had that since Keane and Scholes's best days, with all due respect to the likes of Carrick and Fletcher - then he shouldn't be dropped so many times. Just the odd rest, of course.

I can see why changing partnerships in the center does not help, but the squad game has been our way for a while now. And it worked. Despite that, through those past few years, our midfield has been getting worse and worse. It wasn't about chopping and changing, it was about players not doing well enough. About Scholes ageing, and Giggs playing less, and Carrick losing form, and Fletcher losing form, and Anderson going in and out of form. Consistency will only take you so far. We need an injection of class.

We need him asap. With him in the team tonight we'd be losing 8-3 and not 8-2.

In all seriousness though, given how Cleverly is playing and just how comfortable Pogba looked out there tonight, would I be the only one who wouldn't be that bothered if we didn't sign Sneijder. Even if it means us going through a season of transition, I'd say it was well worth it.

It would make it worse because Sneijder would as you say play most games, so there is less games to go around for the likes of Fletcher, Ando, Cleverly to build any kind of form. I think Carrick will start most games unless injured or seriously out of form. SAF has experimented now with Ando/Cleverly in his role and they've done okay but, that means putting what so far have been considered 2 attacking type players into a more defensive role.

The acquisition of Sneijder will take opportunities from Anderson and Cleverly and right now for either of those two to become into the possible special players requires they start to play some what regularly. The complaint about Anderson is his lack of consistency and ability to finish off games. Well he can't really build up either if he is playing 1 out of every 3 or 4 games.

We've undoubtedly had issues in CM, especially last season - which was due to several factors, not necessarily lack of ability. Scholes was to be relied on but, manager decided not to use him as much as maybe he planned, there was always the thought Hargo would play an important part but, that didn't work out, the forced use of Giggsy on the wing due to Tony V an Park's unavailability and then you had Ando's injury/Fletcher sick plus out of form for much of the season and Carrick who started out of form but, showed his class as the season wound down. We weren't devoid of class/ability in CM - maybe not world class but, our performances were less to do with ability than a myriad of other circumstances conspiring together.

Maybe buying Sneijder is the ticket but, I think with what we have and not have some of the issues of injury and form last year, we'll be able to compete against the best and dominate against the not so best this coming season with what we have. Only concern I still hold is Carrick and Fletcher back up. Maybe young Tom and Jones will provide that

Fergie : "Yes Berbatov could come to Paris. About Sneijder, its "just papers"

Apparently he said that to French TV. Somehow doubt it but lets see...

There is no fecking way Fergie would say that about Berba going to PSG.

Well, that's a bloody shame, but Anderson has had a few years to show us that we just don't to sign anyone. We got him after a season when Scholes was still a regular (2006/07), he got plenty of chances when Scholes was playing less and less, and now Scholes is gone and we're still not certain about him. I mean, I'm certain he can be a really good player for us, but I'm not sure he'll ever have the consistency we require in terms of passing and dictating the match, certainly not at the highest levels.

Giving young players a chance is fine, but there comes a time when signing a player is the difference between United and Arsenal. This is the time. Our midfield has been too weak, it's totally lacking a player who is comfortable on the ball, doesn't rush and lose it and can pick a pass.

Yes, that is about a lack of QUALITY, not form. We've seen quite a lot chopping and changing at the back in the last few years, when you could argue understanding is even more vital, but we rarely seemed as weak in defence, while in midfield it was total shambles, against the weaker sides as well. And since last season, we've lost Scholes while Giggs will play even less, and that's just putting too many eggs on the Anderson/Cleverley (ah, he had a couple of good friendlies) basket.

There are plenty of matches to go around. Cleverley would probably be better for learning from Sneijder and maybe being his understudy. Carrick isn't young, Giggs is on his last legs. Chances WILL open up for the young players we have over the next few years, but right now we need proven quality, to compensate on what we've lost. We should have taken care of midfield last summer. We didn't. It got worse. Trying to mask it now as giving young lads a chance would be Wengerism.

Football fans are fickle. If the same question was asked a year ago, I guarantee that the results would have been the complete opposite.

Sounds more like Berbatov has the ability rather than a transfer story.

Far from shit my friend:

:(

ferguson looked like he was lying then, im sure we are interested in wes but i doubt we are as advanced in the negotiations as the mirror claimed.

regarding berbatov, im not sure he understood the question, why was he smiling?! confused

He, he. Good looking gal gets the charm........any other mo'fo ask that question and there'd be trouble!

her English is as bad as my Japanese for starters. second off all Fergie looks relaxed and happy. 3rd of all i think the Berbatov bit was a sort of WU or a joke.

i thought she was speaking french....

That's why Fergie should be on Twitter.

"Without any doubts, I made a mistake during an interview with that silly French cnut. Berbatov stays, there's no question about that."

Hardly the type of subject to wind people/fans about though, especially with SAF knowing how his comments would be used in the press. I doubt Berba would be pleased either. So, I'm not convinced Sir Alex was on a wind-up.

It's not really unthinkable that we will sell Berbatov to Paris and use Welbeck and Macheda to replace him, and not sign Sneijder. Actually, it seems probable if Paris' reported £19m bid is genuine.

Regarding Sneijder he doesn't deny anything

He says "I don't know anything, it's all newspapers, newspapers that talk this way because I've not said anything".

That makes little sense and is hardly saying "WE ARE NOT BUYING HIM AND WE ARE NOT TRYING TO BUY HIM".

He's answering the question with a negative to play it down but the question he decided to answer was nothing like what she asked.

that won't make any sense...weaken our squad further....

Could Berbatov play whispering?

French really don't like English...

The more I watch that interview, the more I genuinely think Fergie is telling the truth about Sneijder. Very hard to fake body language.

He says "I don't know" surely I don't know means he could be playing for us, if there wasn't a possibility he'd just say, no!? He said no a while back, now it's I don't know... soon it'll be yes?

Italian sources insist Manchester United haven’t made an offer for Wesley Sneijder, plus updates on Mario Balotelli, Carlos Tevez and Alberto Aquilani.

British newspapers today suggested Man Utd had reached an agreement with Inter to bring Sneijder to Old Trafford.

“That’s not what I heard and above all to this day United haven’t made any real offers for Sneijder,” FIFA agent Peppino Tirri told Calciomercato.it.

“There is certainly interest, but a formal proposal is still a long way off.”
