Wesley Sneijder

However, quotes attributed to Ferguson released overnight indicate talks have taken place and Sneijder has been presented with a take-it-or-leave-it offer.

"If he wants to come, he must accept our contract offer. If not we have other options in mind. We are done talking," Ferguson is reported as saying by the Mail on Sunday.

But after tonight's 2-1 win over Barcelona at FedEx Field, Ferguson denied the story.

"Absolute nonsense," said the Scot. "I have never discussed him. There is nothing new."

The quotes were part of an 'off the record' conversation between saf on and his mate bob. Bob has been struggling for exclusives recently and has a family to feed, it wad a tough decision for him but he thought it was worth risking his relationship with saf over. Strange decision.

 another friendlytramp exclusive

That would be my guess as well. Fergie definitely said it. It's not the first time Cass printed something based on a conversation with Fergie that was then denied by the club, only to be then proven right. He wrote last summer Rio would miss the start of the season when United insisted he'll be fit comfortably in time. He wasn't, by a month or so.

Anyhow, I'm less optimistic now. If it was about a battle for the transfer fee with Inter, I'm sure it would have been solved somehow over the next month. I don't know about getting a player to lower his demands and I'm not actually sure it will be a healthy situation as well. If he does that and has a great season, would he be knocking on Gill's door asking for a raise?

Gone a bit cold on this transfer, really. Problem is, I've not gone cold at all on the idea that a midfield signing is a must that will make or break this season.

if it really were an 'off the record' conversation, i dont think that Cass would have published it if he knew that fergie would not approve it.

I think it's more like fergie trying to pass on a message to sneijder & co or perhaps to the agent of some other player we are dealing with. Fergie denied it but he knows that the sneijder camp got the message.

Whether Fergie said it or not my suspiscion since Fergie amd Gills comments last week has been that some sort of take it or leave it offer is probably on the table.

I think Inter want rid and i reckon Utd are prepared to call their bluff over the fee.

According to both Gill and Moratti we have yet to bid for Sneijder.

And according to Fergie we wont be signing anyone, so lets lock the thread.

In negotiations worth tens of millions i doubt the full scale of whats going on are ever made public.

But its just a suspiscion.

FFS, this is really becoming annoying now. Absolutely nothing has happened on this transfer, that we are aware of, since the first day that this thread opened but yet journalists are still plucking ideas out of the air and writing about them.

I would just love this to be closed off today, with whatever outcome, even if that means entering this season without a new CM in place.

To be fair the quotes attributed to Fergie tally with what that Dutch journo said on TalkSport - we won't be agreeing anything with Inter until we agree with Sneijder (it wasn't explicit in the interview but I assume if that's true it's because Inter have allowed us to do so).

Also Bob Cass is apparently a big mate of Fergie so if you take this and the Nasri quotes then I think Fergie may be using him as a Chinese wall of sorts (that's racist) in getting his message out.

I agree - this has been an absolute bollocks transfer saga

It's starting to annoy me when people say this. He has not said that.

His words were that there was nothing imminent and we weren't working on anything at that moment in time (or something to that effect). He also said he's happy with what we've got. Gill then echoed Fergies comments but said that things might change quickly when we get back to Carrington and that we are probably looking to add one more 'world-class' player.

The team has landed in Manchester so now hopefully things will start moving and we can kidnap Sneijder from the airport before he flies off to Beijing!

Well the point i was trying to make was that all information abouy what may be going on are hardly likely to be made public.

fergie already stated he has no interest in sneijder. why not just give it up will you. ;)

I did genuinely wonder if we'll see anyone from United in the crowd in Dublin today....

I think this image sums up the feeling about this transfer!

Is he starting against City?

Inter: Julio Cesar, Ranocchia, Chivu, Caldirola, Bianchetti, Stankovic, Sneijder, Crisetig, Alvarez, Eto'o, Pandev.

Manchester City: Hart, Richards, Lescott, Kompany, Kolarov, Y. Toure, De Jong, Milner, Silva, Balotelli, Dzeko.

Sneijders been shockingly bad. 40m and 200k a week for that?

Was very good in his last game. Looked disinterested today and didn't seem to give his 100% today. Infact he and Eto'o both have looked a bit indifferent offlate.
