Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson insists: I didn't bid for Holland star Wesley Sneijder - and I don't need him

Sir Alex Ferguson has dismissed reports that he bid for World Cup sensations Wesley Sneijder and Mesut Ozil and insists that his current Manchester United squad is ‘stronger than last season’.

Ferguson jets out on Monday on United’s pre-season tour to Canada, the United States and Mexico content that he is already equipped with the players to land his 12th Premier League title and third European Cup.

He claimed to be bemused at speculation about his summer transfer dealings, in particular that he had bid £30million for Inter Milan forward Sneijder and that the
Dutchman had turned him down.

The United manager said: ‘I believe the squad is stronger than last season with the
younger players having another year under their belts. I don’t know where those reports about Sneijder came from. How can anybody turn me down when I haven’t even made a bid?’

Further suggestions that he had now turned his attention to Germany’s supremely talented young midfielder Ozil, who was central to the defeat of England in the last 16, were similarly discounted.

The United tour party will be depleted by the absence of all the players who have been in South Africa for the World Cup, the one exception being newly signed Mexico striker Javier Hernandez, 22, who will join up to play against his former club, Chivas of Guadalajara, on July 30.

Injuries to Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand and Owen Hargreaves keep them out of the trip but Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes lead a 22-man party on the five-match tour.

After training at their base in Chicago, United open up against Celtic in Toronto on Friday. They follow that with games against Philadelphia Union on July 21, Kansas City Wizards four days later then the MLS All-Stars in Houston on July 28.

They fly to Mexico to finish the tour before returning to prepare for the Community Shield against Chelsea at Wembley on August 8.

As if the summer wasnt bad enough......

As for this:

"I believe the squad is stronger than last season with the younger players having another year under their belts"

I heard the same last season and i wasnt to impressed then either....i expect we'll be hearing this every year from now on.

Hamsik I tell ya.

Nah the muppet in me is well and truly dead for this year, to many blows to the nether regions, i cant be putting myself through this anymore i tell ya! :(

I think its time to subscribe to your stance gambs, its obviously time for all the youngsters to play, of course the mistakes/trial and error approaches, the lull in immediate results and all that comes with that will be tough but that’s the position were in now, time to start enjoying blooding the youngsters and put trophy aspirations to one side.

Absolutely.

Fergie the muppet slayer....

If Fergie is not lying (sometimes he does), this means that Moratti probably is. Maybe he did because he s not prepared to meet Sneijder's agent new terms

Yep. I'm sure there's value out there, though. One should look no further than Mr Ozil.

Let it go mate, its just to soul destroying to keep harbouring these faint hopes believe me I know, Fergies just not interested in anything on the market rightly or wrongly......its time for the youngsters and we'll be seeing a lot of it over the next few years.

Well, it doesn't really bother me, if I'm honest. . .I just hope it's nowt to do with our debts.

Well thats another can of worms, i don’t personally subscribe to that notion but the longer we continue with the value comments and no large spending i see more and more people picking up the mantra.

The 1 main worry i have with all this is actually our current players, and by that I mean will the likes of Rooney and co see it as a lack of ambition and think about their own futures?, we of course need our best players happy and content at the club and plenty since the season ended have come out saying we cant continue to rely on Rooney, we need more goals in the team, we need another striker etc etc, i at times do wonder what the likes of Rooney think about all this, the seeming lack of progression or even interest in strengthening the team whilst other clubs across Europe spend big to make themselves better, i do worry if the likes of Rooney/Vidic/Evra and such like will start to look at their own futures and say is this club really showing the ambition to match my own?

Fergies not put a bid in. Inter want to keep him.

At £30mil+, which is what it would take for Inter to even consider it, he would be too much for us.

Time to draw a line under this....

Joe Cole. Luca Toni. We yet have hope!

Yeah just seen it, though I don't know why we have two Sneijder threads in the transfer forum?

But i always feel like were cheating whenever we put Diouf on the field, i like us to win fair and square and with Diouf thats just never possible...

feck em I say, we held him back last season, time to set him lose.

Arjen Robben has tipped Wesley Sneijder to join Manchester United - and claimed his Netherlands team-mate is better than Lionel Messi.

Sneijder, 26, enjoyed a hugely successful season at club level after leaving Real Madrid for Inter Milan last summer, and he has now proved one of the stars of the 2010 World Cup.

Inter president Massimo Moratti has said he believes there is truth to rumours United are readying a bid for Sneijder, and Robben believes a move is likely to go through.

"Sneijder for me is the best player in the world over the last 12 months," he told the Daily Star Sunday. "Messi is clearly a fantastic talent but it's almost too easy to say he is the best now.

"I personally think there is a very good chance he will join Man United. I am a big admirer of Paul Scholes, he is one of the best players of his generation and I honestly think Sneijder is the only player in the world capable of replacing him."

Every player in the game thinks the world of Scholes. How many have called him a once in a generation player? feck, we're going to miss him

We already do because he isnt the player he was that often, over the last two years especially last when Scholes played well so did United or so it seemed
