Wesley Sneijder

We already do because he isnt the player he was that often, over the last two years especially last when Scholes played well so did United or so it seemed

That's tripe.

Fergie coming out with the usual then!! So what is it from our fans now.. Do we believe he's bluffing, are we all backing Fergie now that we don't really need him and that it's the Italy president thats just magically making up stories?

Either way if we really was interested, i doubt we would get him unless he opens a big desire to come join us and we'd still probably mess that up.

My post from the Ozil thread:

TBF , from those statements, it only looks as though we haven't made a formal bid for Sneijder. As I suspected, the numbers floating around have been cooked up by journos.

There is nothing to suggest we didn't inquire about Sneijder. That seems the most likely chain of events - we inquire about Sneijder, Moratti goes to the press and shoots his mouth off as a negotiating tactic, Sneijder hears about it and either doesn't want to leave Inter where he is undoubtedly the star man or wants to appease his GF in case she starts to suspect she'll have to leave Milan.

I think we are interested, and I think SAF is just keeping his cards close to his chest. He said similar things just before we signed Berbatov, he refused to talk about our interest in him.

I don't believe he's bluffing. We might be interested, but don't believe we made a bid for him.

When I heard we had I thought this was stupid, and totally against our way of approaching players at this time of the season - especially since the Glazers arrived and we started to get better at transfers (we did believe it or not!)

The reasons why it doesn't make sense is if you look at previous seasons, our approach has been:-

1. Never make a bid unless we already know the player would actually move to us. (Benzema would have moved but we believed that RM were not going to make a bid!)

2. Never make a bid unless we know that the club would be interested in selling. Do our research to find out the financial position of the club and that they need to sell.

3. At this time of the season never start the transfer season by bidding for the highest level transfer as this sets the tone for the other transfers you want to make. I.e. if we start the season by bidding 29M for Sneider and then end up paying 36M for him, then when we also want to purchase Ozil or Balotelli the level that we are willing to pay also goes right up.

Rather start off by getting cheaper players i.e. a cheap(ish) left winger who can get beyond the last line of defense at (the reason we won't bid for Alexis Sanchez is that we already have 3 right wingers!). So we'd start by getting a midfielder, or left winger at 15M-20M and then pay 25M or whatever for a striker.

This has been our transfer policy under the Glazers. Before hand we would have blundered into a transfer nightmare and ended up paying too much.

Eh?

No comprende, compadre

Our transfer policy before this was a complete mess. We'd go for players and end up being bid up to the roof, overpaying, getting involved in long protracted transfer negotiations all of which forced the bid price up because we were Manchester United.

In addition, we announced everything we were doing becuase we were a public limited company.

The only player that we've paid too much for since has been Berbatov. But the policy now is much neater. If I put aside transfers like Pique, Forlan, & Rossi where we sold too cheaply - at least now we can strike quickly and effectively for promising talent like Smalling, Hernandez, Obertan, Nani & Anderson.

I believe it's something along them lines...

Guess not
SNEIJDER: I WANT TO SIGN FOR MAN UNITED
WESLEY Sneijder wants to play for Man United – and privately insists a move to Old Trafford from Inter Milan is not dead.

wants to play for Man United – and privately insists a move to Old Trafford from Inter Milan is not dead.

The Dutch midfielder goes into today’s World Cup Final against Spain with his future still in doubt, despite claims that he is staying at the San Siro.

Inter insist Sneijder, 26, won’t be going after helping them to a Champions League, Serie A and Copa Italia Treble last season.

And their new boss, former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez, wouldn’t be keen on the idea of losing him to Sir Alex Ferguson after their spats.

Sneijder has admitted he’s ready to discuss a new contract and his future wife, model and TV presenter Yolanthe Cabau van Kasbergen, is believed to favour living in Italy.

But the Daily Star Sunday can reveal that members of Sneijder’s family are urging him to fulfil his ambition of playing for United.

A member of the Sneijder clan said: “Wesley wants to play for United and he should go there. He was very disappointed when they didn’t go for him when he was leaving Real Madrid for £12 million a year ago.”

We revealed three weeks ago that Sneijder, one of the stars of the World Cup, was a target for United boss Ferguson.

United have since made anoffical approach and are believed to be prepared to pay £29 million - giving Inter £17 million profit on their shrewd signing from Real.

Another option would be for United to include striker Dimitar Berbatov in the deal.

Sneijder could yet also be a target for his former club, following Jose Mourinho’s move there from Inter.

But the indications are that Madrid’s No.1midfield target is still Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard.

That would leave Inter and United in a straight fight for Sneijder, the World Cup’s joint-leading scorer with five goals.

And the battle isn’t over yet for a player who is clearly torn over his future.

Already posted in the other thread. Are the Mods dead? Merge already, please.

This was the original one so the other should just be deleted. I guess if that new mod has been picked he could start earning his money.

That Star story is hilarious, they've moved on from club sources and are now citing family members as sources of information! The bit about his missus is interesting though, can't see her being keen on a move from Milan to Manchester!

Ah! Sorry I misunderstood your post, my fault.

They cite no sources for the report. I'd be very surprised if the Daily Star is actually in contact with 'members of Sneijder's family.' More likely they called up his agent, who provided them with said 'quote.'

I just assumed they'd completely made them up, but yea possibly.

Berbatov?

You've not exactly reeled off an impressive list of names there. None of them have set the world on fire bar perhaps Nani the second half of last season, and Anderson in his first season. The list of names I can give you pre Glazer includes the likes of Rooney, Ronaldo & Ferdinand. None of which I'd say we overpaid for, if anything the opposite. We bought top quality at the prices you'd expect such players to fetch. The difference now is not that we have a better transfer policy, rather that we don't have the money to go in for these big name players

My point wasn't about producing an impressive list of names. Merely that we swooped quickly for these players (and as you say paid for quality at the prices we'd expect to pay). Rather than before when we got involved in long, protracted, drawn out sagas that we seemed to announce to the world - with these plays we did our homework and were in and out.

What the hell is happening with this Sneidjer transfer deal? Fergie is saying he has not placed a bid for him while De Zeew and Robben are saying SNeidjer is tipped to join United.

Tomorrow's a big day...

I doubt Sneijder would do anything other than concede his commitment to Inter if asked about his future in the middle of the World Cup, when his team are on the cusp of the Semis and Finals. Saying anything else would create a media shitstorm about him joining United, that would only serve to cause him to lose focus at the moment in his career when he needs it the most. Conversely, Fergie could well be interested whilst throwing up smokescreens about how good the squad is, and that he hasn't put in a bid etc.

We'll know after the WC is finished. Robben is spot on in his assessment of Sneijder being the only player who could replace Scholes.

Best player on the park last night. Could've had 3 assists with some wonderful through balls, put in a real shift and made one of the tackles of the game.

What is it with footballer's wives and Spain / Italy ?

I find Sneijder a very confusing footballer to judge.

He has an incredible through pass on him. His ability to just split defences open and create a goal scoring chance is amazing. Even in games where he hasn't had that much of the ball he'll out of nowhere produce a brilliant pass. A bit like Ronaldo or Messi not being in the game but out of nowhere scoring a stunner.

BUT I don't think he's particularly great on the ball, or runs the football game like Scholes can. I've never seen him properly boss a midfield like Scholes, Xavi etc can. But in terms of creating in the final third he seems to the best around.

I like his attitude. Seems to be a real winner.
