Wesley Sneijder

Well he is showing all the signs to want to extend his contract at Inter so I guess we should close curtains on this unless some of the eternal optimists on here can suggest otherwise

Taking Inter for a ride and get a high paying contract at the muppets cost not a good man Sneijder.

BUT I don't think he's particularly great on the ball, or runs the football game like Scholes can. I've never seen him properly boss a midfield like Scholes, Xavi etc can. But in terms of creating in the final third he seems to the best around.

The problem with that statement is your use of "etc". There is nobody in the world except for those two (and sometimes Pirlo) who can boss a midfield in the same sense. We will not be able to replace Scholes, simple as. His diagonal balls are second to none. Players like Fabregas and most modern attacking midfielders are reliant on keeping the ball on the floor (not a bad thing, don't get me wrong). But, Scholes' (Xavi's, Pirlo's) greatest talent is spreading the play. His passing accuracy at distance may still be the best in the world, only one year off of retirement... truly astounding when you really consider it

What we need to do is try and find somebody who has the ability to play in our systems and mould him into the best player possible - which is what I think Fergie was hoping for in Anderson (he once said that Anderson was Scholes' successor). I think there is still time for him yet. If he can put all his strengths together in the next 1-2 seasons, I beleive we may yet have the players we need at the club to move forward. Also, if Gibson can step up his play just a bit, I think he will do quite well at the club

Was this the thread for Balotelli discussion as well, as heard on TalkSport (yeh, I know) that his agent or him said that we are still in for him and he's pleased with the interest

Whether this is true or not I'm not sure, now SAF said we didn't bid for Sneijder

Was gutted for the man last night, absolutely gutted, been great this tournament and one of the better Holland players in terms of discipline and professionalism aswell.

I know, once they've spent a rainy Saturday morning on Deansgate they'll never look back, they just need to try it!

And once they get a whiff of the bins on Market Street on a summer's afternoon there'll be no getting rid of them.

I find Sneijder a very confusing footballer to judge.

He has an incredible through pass on him. His ability to just split defences open and create a goal scoring chance is amazing. Even in games where he hasn't had that much of the ball he'll out of nowhere produce a brilliant pass. A bit like Ronaldo or Messi not being in the game but out of nowhere scoring a stunner.

BUT I don't think he's particularly great on the ball, or runs the football game like Scholes can. I've never seen him properly boss a midfield like Scholes, Xavi etc can. But in terms of creating in the final third he seems to the best around.

I like his attitude. Seems to be a real winner.

However you slice it, he's very effective and immensely influential.

My post from the Ozil thread:

TBF , from those statements, it only looks as though we haven't made a formal bid for Sneijder. As I suspected, the numbers floating around have been cooked up by journos.

There is nothing to suggest we didn't inquire about Sneijder. That seems the most likely chain of events - we inquire about Sneijder, Moratti goes to the press and shoots his mouth off as a negotiating tactic, Sneijder hears about it and either doesn't want to leave Inter where he is undoubtedly the star man or wants to appease his GF in case she starts to suspect she'll have to leave Milan.

This is correct.

How many transfer seasons do we have to go through before the muppets begin to understand that just because you make an offer or just because a club talks to the press it doesn't mean anything more than that you are trying to figure out the price of the goods in the shop window?

Just because you ask a girl out, it doesn't mean that you'll want a second date. Just because she rejects you, it doesn't mean that a week later she won't be coming back and changing her mind once the idea has taken root. Just because she declared her interest in you, it doesn't mean she wasn't really trying to make a play for someone else.

I've never played Football Manager, but I'm guessing the way transfers are done in the imagination of many isn't remotely like the messiness of real life.

All we can learn is that the club is contemplating bringing someone in (i.e. They are not as skint as many would have us believe!), and that they seem to be looking at the sort of player who can fill the gap in goals and free kicks left by Tevez/Ronaldo.

 I reckon we kidnap Mrs S and introduce her to the resident vagrants in the gardens and then take her for a pint in The Picadilly, she'll have him on the next flight to meet with SAF!

One night in the printworks and inter will be looking for a new midfielder.

I bet they don't even have Poundlands in Milan, let alone a massive Primark. Think of the number of £2 t-shirts she could be taking home with her. A pint of Holts at the Old Monkey followed by a walk to the bus station (with a traditional Mancunian jet of dirty puddle water shot up her trouser leg from beneath a loose paving flag along the way) and job's a good 'un.

She does not know what she's missing.

Dammit I hope not, he'd sprain his ankle when his loafers stick to the floor!

I was there on foam party night the other week (no not by choice) and whoever thought that alcohol, slippy metal surfaces and basically spraying soap everywhere would be a good idea has to be a moron.

Also she could see what the arndale looks like REALLY close from the big wheel whilst watching bbc news 24 on the exchange square screen. Also has milan got an indesctructable postbox? i dont think so!

I went to a foam party there and was rather excited. Then I realised being sprayed in the face with foam that makes your eyes sting and leaves you soaking wet to face the cold walk home is just plain stupid!

It used to be good when it played indie music. Now it's more classic dance and pop music with some indie at the start of the night when nobody is there.

42s is better and Propoganda at Moho Live is the best indie night in Manchester.

I prefer the venue, good old retro music. agreed 5th has started playing bad music, before the good music was the only thing that made the shithole mildly tolerable

The Best Indie nights in Manchester are at the obscure Indie Venues to be honest.

used to be a great one called strangerways at a small bar off deansgate called cellar vie. was free get in and really cheap for drinks and played really unusual music, then got succesfull and has now moved. not beenyet but cant be as good. wheres good to go now then?

She could even take a ride on the 192!

She could inhale some of the north's finest second-hand spliff smoke drifting down the staircase and experience the intoxicating way that it mixes with the fumes from one of Finglands classicly decrepit engines while wending it's merry way though Levenshulme.

How is she not here already?

There used to be quite a good one called kissing the lipless at the Rampant Lion pub in Victoria Park. That moved on too, maybe to Rusholme and I heard it's quite popular now!

It's more new indie music though rather than older stuff.

The thing is I dont see why he would want to leave Inter Milan.

He has it all there right now: He at Europe's current top club which has status and a fantastic heritage, plays in a fantastic stadium in front of huge knowledgeable crowds, lives in a fantastic city which has all sorts of wonderful geography within 2 hours drive. And all jokes aside, he will be playing for a new respected manger in Rafa Benitez.

I know we can offer all the same apart from Manchester being a less desirable place to live than Milan (though Manchester can be a wonderful place to live), what else can we offer him that Inter Milan can't?

In all seriousness very little, tbh the only things that could even slightly convince him would be being a manchester united player and working under saf

Does anyone know what kind of relationship Sneijder had with Mourinho? Was it like he had with Lampard, Terry and Drogba at Chelsea - very friendly to the point where they still call him today? If Sneijder is anywhere near as close to Mourinho, I'm sure he'll call him and talk to him about what's going on. And we all know what Mourinho thinks of Fergie (and Rafa ). So even if you disregard the 'Joining Utd to play for Mourinho again in a few years' scenario, that could still work in our favour.

In saying that, I still think this is still a load of BS.

Actually, the strange thing about all this is it seems to be all reversed. Sneijder and his agent are saying that he wants to stay at Inter and sign a new contract, it's Inter themselves who are saying that there's interest in him and they might be tempted to sell. Which seems to only make sense if one of the Real/Barca/City/Chelsea group with huge funds are showing interest, dropping our name to try to increase the price.

"David Gill travelled with squad to U.S.A??"

Ben Hibbs reply: "Not yet. He was at OT today I think"
