Wesley Sneijder

Getting the feeling that SAF/Utd is just backing off the deal for a bit to have the price dropped... I think that in the past few weeks, it was so overly obvious that Utd wanted to buy Sneijder, that Inter was easily able to up the price... I'm hoping for / expecting a period (few days at least, maybe even several weeks) without much media coverage on any new developments regarding a potential transfer and then a when nobody is expecting it anymore, a press conference about the signing of our new creative midfielder...

The difference with that he isn't naming De Gea in that quote. He's just denying making a bid for two players, and the journo on that website has just put two and two together.

How ever, i believe Fergie publically confirmed that we were after De Gea on Sky Sports when they asked him.

He was specifically asked about the De Gea rumours and he responded with what I quoted.

That was that time, he also confirmed that we were trying to sign DeGea later on in a post match interview with sky. He never denied he was trying to sign DeGea, he denied that we'd already signed him. There is a difference, the only hope left is that Ferguson is upto his old lying self.

Inter's new manager Gaspirini after their first pre-season friendly: ''Wesley is motivated and will play a big season for us.''

:(

So he is not coming.

No Modric either.

I am actually looking forward to the surprise.(if we sign someone)

I believe what Fergie says. Sneijder does not want to really move, Inter does not wanna sell, and we are not able to make a bid so high they cant resist.
We might were interested in him a few weeks ago but thats it (same with Nasri and Modric). I assume we will sign a midfielder that hasnt really been mentioned yet in the next 3 weeks.

I agree with all of that except the bolded bit which I've corrected:
we are not interestd in making a bid so high they cant resist.

Is there such a player? The muppets have been out in force for months mentioning every single player out there

"I have not been involved in this situation," he said. "There is no real interest for a lot of reasons. There is nothing I can tell you about it."

His price
His age
His wages
His sell on value

I don't think it helps the the sell-on value debate, that the one player we've broken our age policy on in recent years, Berbatov, has currently got us into a situation where if we are to sell him, we will get less than half of what we payed.

He's 27 and he's had one really good season in his career. One.
Why the feck pay £35m and 200k a week for this fella?

I'd be happy enough starting the season with what we have.

De Selby I rarely get involved in the whole transfer saga. I'm a firm believer that you're best off just waiting to see what happens. The Transfer Forum has been torturing muppets since 1998.

However idiotic some of them may be, you cannot let this cause you to lose sight. Saying that you'd be happy starting with what we already have is just ridiculous. You have to know this. In fact it's not quite...but almost as ridiculous as the Cafties that followed this thread in the full belief that all reports were true.

If you would be happy enough to start the season with what we have then I'd love to hear your opinion on strength in depth. 2 key injuries to midfield and we will fall short of the quality required to over turn strong midfields. It's not even about getting that quality key player in the mould of Nasri or Sneijder, it's about having quality cover in whatever form that allows us to be diverse and robust. Basing it on this alone, it's clear we need a signing.

Kinky I refuse to believe you've been posting on these boards for 11 years and cannot spell ridiculous correctly.

I wholeheartedly agree with you though.

No deal for Sneijder

Manchester United Official Web Site - No deal for Sneijder

Sir Alex Ferguson insists that no deal is imminent to sign Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder.

The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford all summer following the retirement of Paul Scholes.

But the boss maintains there is no agreement in place at present to bring the Dutch international to Old Trafford.

"I couldn't tell you [what's happening]," Sir Alex told reporters at a press conference on arrival on Seattle.

He isn't denying that something is or was happening - merely telling reporters that he can't tell them.

"I've not really been involved in it since we've come to America. There's no real interest at this moment in time in Wesley Sneijder for a lot of reasons. There's nothing I can tell you about it."

"I don't know nutthin!" Doesn't deny that something was happening again. 'No real interest' means that there is some interest but perhaps not at the price that Inter are talking about. Remember Meulensteen said he was perfect and he is the main target. But no real interest means not making a bid at that price. Perhaps with the knowledge that Sneijder will ONLY come to us. No real interest at this time also means that there is still 6 weeks left of the transfer window so happy to wait!

Sir Alex was quizzed further about any other potential new signings to add to the three he has already made - Phil Jones, Ashley Young and David De Gea. But the manager insists there is nothing new to report on that front.

"Nothing's imminent at this moment in time. Obviously we're trying but we've signed three players and we're very comfortable with that," he added.

This means that no offers going through - not no interest. As he hasn't denied that any other transfer(s) will go through either Sneijder or Nasri or both - we can take it we're still in the market.

"They're three tremendous young players to add to the squad I have from last year – and we've people coming back from loan periods like Welbeck, Cleverley, Diouf and Macheda.

"We've signed Phil Jones, Ashley Young, David de Gea... we've filled the gaps we've needed to fill. The one we're having difficulty replacing is Paul Scholes, which is always going to be hard.

Watch this space!

Oh yes! Hopefully Fergie stay true to his word and won't bid for Sneijder. Sneijder can stay in Italy counting his money and enjoying the Milanese glamour life together with his horseface wife.

Joker.

I don't know how much stock you can put in this but I was watching Sky Sports News this morning and they say there is a problem for us signing Sneijder because Rooney's new contract stipulates that he has to be the best paid player at United and so United either have to manage Sneijder down below Rooney or face bumping up Rooney's pay.

I know this has been pointed already, but where does SAF say we are not intersted? If anything he just said 'not at this moment in time' and he said ' I have not really been involved in it since I came across here'. Involved in what? I don't know but his comments leave room for a move to still happen.

which would say to me that he has looked at his internal options and feels that they aren't up to replacing Scholesy and needs to bring an established name in

He's obviously planning on getting a midfielder judging by his comments about Scholes, but it ain't going to be Sneijder. He'll go down a cheaper route and a different type of player to him.
