Wesley Sneijder

I remember last year you saying we should have signed him, looks like you may get your wish. Alas poor Hamsik.........

I'll gladly take Sneijder even if it means missing out on Hamsik!

What I'm trying to say is that Fergie has to be smarter in the transfer market in our current financial situation and the Sneijder offered the "value" that Ferguson is desperately seeking.

We throwing down ultimatums now, are we? SAF 'has to be smarter' in order to gain our confidence? feck that. SAF's smart enough, he's proved as much time and time again over the last twenty years at United - he doesn't make the right decision 100% of the time, but he's damn close enough to have gained my respect ten times over, and so, if anyone tries to tell me that SAF has to get smarter, then i'll just tell them to stop being such a dick and give him a bit of leeway below their idiotic expectation of perfection.

Yes rocket scientist, a manager who's been in charge for over two decades will have more than a few examples where he's got in ahead of the game

all relatively recent examples

and there are many more aswell

We probably should have got Forlan earlier too

If he went for everyone at a time when all the keyboard managers (not you but all of us) suggested we would probably be even more broke and have way too many players:D

I don't think money had anything to do with us not signing Sneijder last summer, it was all to do with tactics/current squad setup(or more specifically, Berbatov).

Inter President confirms United want Sneijder.

Massimo Moratti claims Manchester United want Wesley Sneijder - Transfers - ESPN Soccernet

Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti believes Manchester United are interested in signing Wesley Sneijder.

Wesley Sneijder

Reports in the UK press claimed this week that United were hoping to tie up a £25 million deal for Sneijder, who has been a key figure in taking Netherlands to this summer's World Cup final.

Moratti has now confirmed he believes the reports are correct but insists he has no intention of allowing the midfielder to leave.

"I believe that it's true, but I don't want to ask for too much so as not to fall into temptation," he said. "I am enjoying watching Sneijder at the World Cup and I will enjoy watching him at Inter next year too.

"It's a great satisfaction to know that Inter's players are so desired on the market because it means that they are very good."

Sneijder's agent, Soren Lerby, has also suggested Sneijder - currently contracted until 2013 - could sign an extension to his current deal.

"Wesley could stay until 2015," he told De Telegraaf. "After the World Cup we will go to Milan and sit around a table with the directors."

I might well have, although I'd imagine that was because you were saying he would start in a midfield two and be the perfect Scholesy replacement, whereas I thought he would flop in a midfield two since he's lazy and lacks mobility. I still do.

Different replacing him with Berbatov in the team though, which I'm sure you weren't suggesting.

He's done far better than I expected him to do at Inter though, I'll give you that.

I recall I wanted us to sign him regardless of his role in the team, although i did and still do maintain he could play in a midfield alongside fletcher or carrick and become the playmaker (whether this would happen is all hypothetical) and more currently, he would fit perfectly in with our system supporting rooney as the most advanced midfielder. At the time I just saw an extremely talented player who was wasted at real madrid, a player which we lacked and it has become more and more obvious in the season just past we were missing that creative spark through the middle.

I am not sure what you mean about berbatov, its not really one or the other.

I remember you weren't fussed on him at all, supported it by the fact that none of the bigger teams were in for him. Now after a beautiful world cup and a season at a champions league winning team every one can see what he is all about.

So what's he's effectively saying is he wouldn't be surprised if we were interested but he wont be selling him

Which in turn effectively means there's been no actual bid and at this point it's just media speculation

Which in turn effectively means it's bollocks

Bingo.

Ferguson was looking to get that 4-4-2 working but sometime around January Nani emerged and Rooney clearly enjoyed being the lone striker and he didn't really look back from 4-5-1/4-3-3.

The only problem was that he was lacking that real creative midfielder. Seems Sneijder could be the man he's looking for.

We still have Berbatov, and are now we are officially interested in him, so surely thats wrong.

Weve realised that 4-4-2 dosnt work, weve realised/found a system that gets the most out of Rooney where we want him as a lone striker, but to truly make the 4-3-3/4-5-1 work a team must have that creator/playmaker to provide a consistent supply line to the front man, we dont have that as of today.

Maybe I'm insane but I still don't rate Sneijder. At least not as one of the best players in the world - maybe he's in the top 20.

I wouldn't complain if we bought him, mind.

Weren't fussed on him? In this very thread, for example:

His eye for a killer pass is up there with the best, he's got a create first touch, he's an impressive dribbler and he's got a great strike...

I've always thought he was extremely gifted, but I don't see him working in a midfield two.

We still have Berbatov, and are now we are officially interested in him, so surely thats wrong.

I'd imagine Sir Alex still had hopes last summer that Berbatov would step up to be a key player and we'd be using 4-4-2 as our main formation. I don't think either are the case now.

You can slate Sir Alex for being too patient with Berbatov maybe, but that's about it. Don't think money comes into it.

That is because he is far from the player you claimed he was last summer.

Far better, you mean? Maybe so, but coming from someone who's said Sneijder's on the same level as Arteta I find that a bit ironic...;)

Right you are insane. Were you drunk when you wrote this? Whether Netherlands win the WC or not, he is going to be in top 3 to win the World Player of the Year. The amount of trophies he won this year is a huge factor.

I don't believe the bit about Balotelli at all.

What do you want to read? That Fergie is the greatest manager ever, that we should trust him? It's a given that he knows best. Even though most people question him, I think you'd struggle to find many people on here who would disagree. But this is an Internet forum and a place to voice an opinion. Contrary to popular belief, I think it's fine to question Fergie as ultimately, he's earned it tenfold.

Imagine this place if we bought both him and Ballotelli!

The muppets would explode happy juice and certain people wouldn't know what to argue about concerning money for transfers.

ok look, Last summer you were firmly against his signing and argued it often with me. Has that changed now and has your opinion of him? surely it must have he has stepped it up and realized his potential.

In the majority of our premiership games he will play 2 upfront still, who the 2 strikers will be i'm not sure - berbatov has worn my patience thin and im sure fergusons also, its only against strong opposition we will have an extra man in the middle. Surely he wont only be using Sneijder at these times, its my view he will play in the majority of games 442 and 451.

I wonder what Crerand makes about this bid, all but 30 million on the table, funny that considering were skint apparently.....

But...but....but Panorama!!!!

Time to go buy a Jersey if we sign this guy :D

So it's gone from 19.65m to 29m in a matter of hours? Branca is a good negotiator...

#DuckerTheTimes

I'll post the full story on sneijder/balotelli in the morning. Inter made it clear they'll fight tooth and nail to keep the dutchman #mufc

Cocks out?
