Weird feelings of football

I know this isnt a weird feeling, more a pet peeve. But if I have to see one more video of Ronaldo scoring that free against Arsenal in 2009 with Tyldesleys commentary edited to say "too far for Ronaldo to think about it" I'll scream. He said "not too" but the CR7 sycophants edited it and lastly, obviously Ronaldo was gonna shoot from there, when has he not gone for goal when he takes a free?

Edit: Also, I've tried to find a video that hasn't had the original commentary edited and it's like hens teeth. Really trying to keep that myth going
Takes a free, is a new peeve

I remember him saying 'not too far'. I've just looked at about 15 videos and I can't find the 'not'. I'm equally frustrated. Let me know if you find the real vid.

Football today is so much softer than before, because all the men were men back then.
Wouldn't call that a weird feeling so much as a straight up fact.

Go watch the FA Cup match between United and Wimbledon in 1994. Any current team facing that Wimbledon side would be rolling around on the ground screaming and pleading for red cards within the first 10 minutes.

You are probably correct..

Portugal have played 451 since 2004.

Their midfield is world class and the striker they use is not usually a striker or just plain shit.

Where did you get that? I have just re-watched it numerous times & CT says quite clearly: „Too far“…

The original commentary is 'not' too far. Every video has edited the 'not' out. You can tell by the vids it was edited out.

Ogbene struggled getting into Luton's team last year and Ipswich's team last year. I think he has the mentality and ability to go to the very top.

Every Edinburgh Derby since the start of time has either ended 0-0 or 1-1. No team has ever beaten each other in over 100 years.

There are no Black goalkeepers.

Dida, Onana, Mandanda, Howard, Kameni, James, Maignan, Mendy the only ones I can think of last 20 years

Certainly an under-representation in that position compared to players in other roles in top-flight European although the numbers are definitely increasing. Alex Williams was City's goalie in the first half of the 80s and I think it was only him at the time in England.

The reasons? Racial bias was often cited as a possible, with coaches perhaps thinking people with certain skin colours couldn't play certain positions to a high standard. I've also seen black people jokingly say that no black person would want to be a goalkeeper with the implication that it's not cool enough for them. Only a joke but it could have been some small truth in it and it being partly cultural too. Racism from fans still exists but was once worse - I suppose goalkeepers often standing close to fans were likely to be subjected to that more than other positions and goalies get a lot of abuse in general from fans behind the goal, might well have discouraged some players.

Also depends on how we're defining black with some of those you mentioned being of mixed ethnicity/heritage.

Anyway, could also include Robert Sanchez, Lee Grant, Gavin Bazunu, Brice Samba (Lens), Yehvann Diouf (Reims), Noah Atubolo (Freiburg) as modern-day examples. Going back a bit you have Bernard Lama, Shaka Hislop and Pegguy Arphexad to add a few more. Quite a lot seem to come through France, guess it's partly due to their former colonialism in Africa and more recent immigration patterns as a result of that.

I'm out, feel like some sort of weird racial profiler.

Ian Holloway played for Swindon Town in the 90s and was their set piece specialist.

Gvardiol scores about three times as many league goals as the official stats suggest.

The Champions League isn't the Champions League anymore, it feels like a glorified Europa League/ Club friendlies.

I can't seem to take the new Champions league format seriously.

If a player is foreign, Neville criticizes them big time and if they're English he says nothing. I've noticed this season, when Sancho plays, all he does is pass it back, he never takes a full back on.

But he went to town on Neto who I thought was impressive throughout the match.
