Has there ever been a good crossover episode of anything?

The Simpsons episode "A Star is Burns" is a crossover. A classic episode at that as well:

"Smithers, are they booing me"
"uh no, they're saying "Boo-urns, Boo-urns"

Fair play, that's a hell of a shout, great episode.

"Who is it?"
"Goons"
"Who?"
"Hired goons"
"Hired goons?"

And later, when he is speaking with Mr Burns;

Mr Burns - "Ah Homer, I hope Crusher and Low Blow didn't hurt you"
Homer - "You know, you could have just called me"
Mr Burns - "Oh yes, but the telephone is so impersonal, I prefer the hands on touch you only get with hired goons"
Homer - "Hired goons?"

Great news on both counts.

If they're shit, we won't be wondering 'what if' and it's not like it's going to hurt their reputation.

Haven't watched the most recent series of Family Guy, Futurama or Simpsons but I'll definitely be catching these - all 3 shows were great.

It's been so long since I watched The Simpsons.....just generally random episodes too. Might have to marathon it. Can it even be done, a full Simpsons marathon?

It'd be seven and a half seasons of genius and seventeen of horseshit.

Nah, don't agree. 4-8 are the undoubted genius. Unparalleled consistency. But I certainly don't consider any of the seasons up to at least 12 bad, yet alone horseshit. Mixed bags yes, but some fantastic episodes are there. Can't say I've seen remotely enough past season 15 to comment. The Eternal Moonshine episode is very good though. I could easily get to end of Season 11 without finding myself cringing through episodes too often, as should anyone really....Behind The Laughter is actually one of my favourite episodes.

The first episode I think I usually cringe with is the Principal and the Pauper. Which I know they themselves reference enough, but still, doesn't save it. Not like they made a whole episode to reference themselves years later.

And Sideshow Bob is one of the greatest Simpsons roles. How many episodes was he in? Maybe seven or so. And most (all?) of them were great.

Homer: Okay, once more. Where are we going?
Edna: To Capital City.
Homer: And why are you and the old lady in the car?
Agnes: We're gonna talk Armin Tamzarian into coming back.
Homer: And why is Marge here?
Marge: I came up with the idea.
Homer: And why am I here?
Marge: Because the streets of Capital City are no place for three unescorted ladies.
Homer: Why are the kids here?
Marge: Because we couldn't find Grandpa to sit for them.
Homer: And why is Grandpa here?
Abe: Because Jasper didn't want to come by himself
[Jasper looks at Abe]
Homer: Fair enough.

"Pain was like a drug, but what was more like a drug was the drugs."

"I just want to set the record straight, I thought the cop was a prostitute."

I more or less agree with that but I couldn't be arsed putting in more than a sentence. I should've said eight and a half seasons, I thought Principal and the Pauper was in season eight.

Krusty: Hey, kids! It's story time. I'm going to tell you the story of Krusty's expensive new suit: his sexual harassment suit!

Anyway, as part of Krusty's plea bargain, he has a new court-ordered sidekick, Ms. No-Means-No.

Whoa! You're hot. Let's get some dinner after the show.

I have dinner with all my employees, right, Sideshow Mel?

Sideshow Mel: We've never spoken outside of work.

Krusty: Oh...

Bart: I'm surprised he doesn't try to blame his problems on his Percodan addiction.

Krusty: It wasn't my fault, it was the Percodan. If you ask me, that stuff rots your brain. And now a word from our new sponsor...Percodan?! Aw, crap!

Season 2-12 is bang on, for me. Season 1 hasn't aged too well, but it's still pretty good. It's kind of patchy after 12, but whilst it's not as good as the "golden era" or whatever, it's still better than most things on telly. A poor episode of the Simpsons is better than any Family Guy. That show is muck.

I just wish they'd do away with most of the guest stars. A lot of Season 24 and 25 has actually been pretty great, but then they drag in some guest star and it sort of spoils it.

While I'm not well versed in later series of The Simpsons whenever I've watched them they seem like they are trying to imitate a more PG version of Family Guys humour. This may not be representative of all later episodes, but if it is I believe that is part of the problem. Simpsons was pioneering and should never attempt to imitate another show.

Moe: Hey Homer, way to get Marge pregnant!
Homer: Okay, this is getting very abstract but THANK YOU, I LOVE MY JOB AT THE BOWLING ALLEY!
