We desperately need a right back

True, but he is also adapting to RB to be fair to the guy.

He done a decent job overall I suppose, his one stand out game for having a nightmare is of course against Arsenal in the cup. My gripe with Tony V is his one dimensional play, continually attempting to get to the by line to smash it along the ground every time.
Yeah I agree, it's either that or pass it backwards after stopping dead in his tracks.

I really hope there is at least a chance of Rafael signing a new contract. The options out there for RB just look dire. I still think we massively effed up this Rafael situation.

How tall is Tony V? He's a beast in the air. When he played wing before we had Fellani we would constantly put goal kicks to him because he was so reliable at winning them.

I don't think we desperately need a right back. I actually think LVG likes Valencia at right back and while there doesn't seem to be many options out there I don't think we will push for a new one.

Must be almost 6 foot I would imagine, I think he is ok but would make sense to have two options there and considering the importance of the full back over lapping mata it would make sense to have a specialist there rather than making drop with jones or McNair as backups.

I wouldn't have a problem if he kept Rafael as backup it would just be a bit odd given the managers apparent contempt for him.

Rafeal had that one really good season but during Moyes's season he was just terrible. His final ball and positional play was the cause of many of the goals we conceded.

Yes but it's something specific I noticed about Rafeal. A lot of our play went through him and his final ball was disastrous.

Rafael is my favorite player at the club but his final ball was never great. He was never going to be a Alves, Maicon type attacking FB but, there is not a ton of those guys around.

that is simple bullshit he was one of the better players but ppl forget quickly or judge players from the past or based on their "rush" or immature nature which is gone, can't really get how people still can think that:wenger:.. one or two bad games and people go overboard and I believe one of those "bad games" were when he got carried away and played on the edge against that liverpool cnut Gerrard who was scything our players that game so I was actually proud when he finished the game without sending off giving 150% like always and like none of other players. The second incident was against David Luiz I believe and it was little bit stupid but Sideshow Bob was filming it and it was pretty embarrasing from him... anyway he was doing okay overall and had at least couple of MOTM performances IIRC, whether it was due to our overall inability to do something in attack or nonexistent midfield, he set his standard higher than majority of the players.

So this criticism is really laughable, whether we should replace him for his inability to stay fit it's another question but he usually plays well when he plays.

He didn't have "one or two bad games". Your post just proves you didn't really understand his weak points or my earlier posts. Your defending his rash behavior which is a separate topic all together. During that whole season his main weakness was his final ball. It was atrocious. We were almost non existent from right back and he was by no means "the better player".

I'm not forgetting anything since I've always been a fan of his. I remember during that season discussing with people why his final ball had been so terrible. Some blamed Moyes, others thought he was just coming back to fitness but the point remained: almost everyone thought we have doing poorly.

It's laughable to think he was one of our better players. He was also a bit poor defensively though our other fullback, Evra, was even worse always being out of position.

Well in the season before I believe (which was his best for us) he was a constant threat. Not just his final ball was much better but he beat his man and found passes that cut through defense. It just hasn't happened ever since then.

What about this Brazilian lad we were linked with? In France?

Fabinho, I can't remember seeing him play (did he play against Arsenal?). But Monaco were defensively excellent last year, so he must be decent.

Fabinho. I have a feeling he'll be our RB signing. Mendes is apparently working on the deal - I imagine he'll want to do us a favour due to the De Gea situation. I believe the reports that Mendes advised De Gea to stay 2 more seasons.

This is solely based on watching a highlight reel in Fabinhos thread, but I was impressed with him, some observations:

* tall, strong, difficult to knock off the ball, makes a lot of interceptions due to him stretching his leg out. I thought this was quite unique - he looks confident that he will reach any through ball.
* has good acceleration, not sure about pace - but he can get away from his opponent.
* seems confident going forward. Did a few back heels etc - looks confident in his ability. Pretty good technique.

I think somebody mentioned him looking like Ivanovic at right back. Thats perhaps a good comparison. He has the ability of a pacy central defender, but looks a very effective fullback.

I dont know why we dont try and sign Darmian. He made Clyne look stupid recently and he's available on cheap

LVG seems to really like Valencia so wouldn't be a big surprise if he was our right back for next season

Coleman would be my choice. I would also like to see more of McNair at RB next season as I thought he did really well - but not as first choice of course.

Dont think it is likely to end up that way as I cant see Valencia being sold, but that is what I will hope for all the same.

Long term option I would go for Dominic Iorfa.

Saw him break into Wolves first team last season. Not once looked out of place. Certainly one to keep an eye out for in the next few years.

Or it could be Coleman is our 1st or 2nd choice?
Then shouldn't we have already been in discussions considering the lack of competition? Waiting because of the same seems silly, considering how they'll have an upper hand once we have lesser time and options.

Either way, spending 30m on an overpriced right-back playing at bargain-driving club while we had other options doesn't look great.

If we did favour Coleman over other options (like Clyne) then my guess is we're targeting players near their peak as we want instant impact signings. Nothing else makes sense really.

Yeah if he was our first choice I imagine we'd have already moved for him. Watching other available RBs sign for other clubs only strengthens Evertons position. They know we won't have many other options and can rinse us.

I don't know why City need another RB when they have Zabaleta and just brought Sagna in last year, but if Fabinho is off the table then we are down to Coleman or Darmian..
