We are lacking that Star man/Match winner!

I don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility that we sign Pedro + a big name signing (should one become available).

We've lost two senior strikers in Van Persie and Falcao. And now we're almost certainly losing Di Maria. Three big players out.

We've only really signed Depay for the attacking positions. Pedro should hopefully sign. So three out, two in.

I guess Hernandez fills one of the roles but I'm unconvinced he has a future under Van Gaal.

Could easily see another signing. Then the question becomes, are we changing too much?

Who is there though at that Galactico level?

Bale, he's the one we are no doubt desperate for, he'd fit our club like a glove..... We back off Ramos and give them DDG, + £50 million.

Beyond that Reus, Cavani, Lewandowski maybe gettable.

While he has a point i totally agree with it, (And same was said by Moyes actually 3/4 times.) the whole quotes reek of playing down the squad and getting in excuses early after spending feckign 225 million pounds or therabouts in 1 year and a bit.

I mean people now mentioning Sanchez as the match winner for Arsenal and he was last season consistently, but then he was available for 23/24 million less than Di Maria last summer and LVG went for Di Maria and then even said he was the type of player the team was lacking couple of times. On top of that Di Maria who was difference maker in galactico Real side winning La Decima, was not used in his best roles mostly due to lack of balance and thus ended up being somewhat misused. Also the other so called Difference making signing Falcao, despite having RVP and Rooney turned dud.

Rooney himself infact was played all over the place and not improved much by LVG.

And now reportedly we may be going after Pedro after selling the so called galactico signing of last summer because he fits the system better. LVG needs to decide what he wants and structure his team to get the best out of those attacking players by also giving some freedom then.

That's a polite way of saying I want Muller.

I always though he wasn't a transfer mad manager. Obviously he wants to shoot for the moon here.

Only three attackers I can think of (that might be persuaded to leave) are Reus, Muller and Bale. Actually, you can rule out Muller, no chance that will happen.
Neither's Bale and I don't consider Reus a Galactico ( not that I consider Bale one either).

Nor Cavani and Lewandowski.

I am actually struggling to see who there is out there.

He badly wants that title in the BPL apar and before retiring. Good for us I guess. A shame I can't really think of such a match winner. We don't have one if Di Maria leaves. Probably Reus if we make a good offer.

It does make it even more incredible that he gave up on Di Maria so easily, if he's so desperate for more star quality.

Isco?

I think we lack a player who can create or score a goal out of nothing against organized teams. Muller while quality isn't that type of player.

As i said above at this point i am confused as to what the hell does he want ?

If Di Maria acts like an idiot it's not surprising at all. Keeping a player at all costs is only justified if that player really brings you forward quite a bit. Like Ronaldo did back then or DDG did last year. Di Maria didn't, he isn't worth the fuss. And I'm one of those rating him very highly.

Makes you wonder why the hell we pay Rooney that much money...

Might hurt a few...

Seen some saying Di Maria, but I don't think he was ever going to be that guy. Maybe one of our best players but from watching him regularly, never really seen him as a match winner.

no pressure on Depay but Hazard only became that match winner last season, who knows what Depay may do for us this season or next

Basically all our rivals have at least one world class attacking player, we have none.

Yes, its sad to see Man Utd without a top attacking player while all the rivals do. We are one of the richest club in the world, but we have not followed with times and its proving expensive.

Some people will be shocked at what he said about Young. A tad harsh but he's correct in that he's not Neymar. Does he think Pedro is the man or could it be someone else? No Idea

Neither's Bale and I don't consider Reus a Galactico ( not that I consider Bale one either).

In that case your standards are ridiculously high. If Bale and Reus aren't galacticos then I suppose that's a tag you reserve for Ronaldo and Messi (maybe Neymar too?).

We also have the most expensive squad in the league, and no world class attacker. Its all a bit of a shambles in all honestly.

At least we've finally sorted that god damn midfield.

Di Maria gave up on us.

Di Maria started out on fire central for us attacking wise tbf and he pushed him out wide due to lack of balance in almost a touchline hugging role for most part and then benched him for Ashley Young justifiably given his form and lack of adjustment to that role in our team.

I think the feeling was mutual between the 2 of giving up on each other. I am confident if LVG went to DI maria in off season and told him that i will give you freedom this season and structure the team for it, he would have stayed. Or even probably if he gave him starting assurances.

Bale is certainly at that level or could be for us anyway, Cavani is maybe not but he is no doubt a big name, Reus could easily be one.

By your reckoning the only ones out there are Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez etc, which are obviously not going to happening, we need one from just below that stature but is still a huge name and will become our Messi etc. ADM could have been it but just didn't have the stomach to see if it could happen sadly.

With LvG's comments and José crying that other teams are buying the league it really seems like a big signing is coming. hmmm.

The caf has known thus for a while. We need someone to give us that Cantona or Ronaldo effect. It is crazy that we reportedly have an attacker on 300k a week and still lack this player.

Was also good to hear him actually point out that he sees the limitations in Ashley Young. 'He is not Neymar ' as he put it. There was perhaps a fear that he favoured the functional.

Pity Bayern have taken the stance they have with us, otherwise I think we'd go after Robben. He'd be perfect, providing he an actually make it onto the pitch. Unplayable and a consistent goal threat. This is what we need desperately.

I don't think any of us have a clue anymore.

Midway through last season?
I dont know when it happened but if the latest reports are to believe he told LVG or the club he wants to go to PSG. PSG was his preferred destination last season anyway but they couldnt buy him due to FFP.

anyway as I said in this thread already although having a player who can score a goal out of nothing would be great its more important to have a functioning team. Many examples in recent years have proven that, teams without big stars winning things and playing good.

Nice quotes from van gaal, i think we do lack that special match winner and i'm happy it's bothering him as well.

How do you know LVG didnt do that?
and if he did why are you sure he'd stay anyway.

I don't like what he said about Young, correct though it is.

Because his comments so far have all been that he wanted to stay and fight before not once but 2/3 times and LVG when asked about him has seemed like he doesn't care if leaves or stays that much.

Anyway, we have him under contract. If we don't wanna sell him we easily cannot like SAF did with Rooney before.

Reus is the best player that is buyable at this time, but I don't know if he wants to leave Dortmund?

Good to see that LVG noticed our problem.

It didnt sound if he doesnt care.
People expected him saying - he will stay but maybe it was already sure he'll leave and ADM changed his mind.

It's also unfortunate that politics meant we were never going to have a seat at the table with regards to Sterling. Such players are clearly in short supply, and with one on the move, a British one at that - we'd have been right in there under different circumstances.

Why have you responded?
I didnt name you or anyone.
That obsession is all around this forum.

Because I was the person that referenced Rooney's salary a couple of posts before you made your comment. I felt it applicable to point out, given the topic of discussion, that we reportedly pay one of ours Messi /Ronaldo kind of money and are not getting anywhere close to the value (on the pitch anyway).

Well as I said you're not the only one who have mentioned it.
Also are you sure he's paid Messi/Ronaldo kind of money.
