He clearly was the star of the team and would have won the young player of the WC award is it wasn't for the English media going mad over winkgate.

Mate he was rested for one game and subbed in the first half of another. He also played in the meaningless first place tournament. Even Maniche made the team of the tournament before him FFS. Don’t rewrite history.
 
And I don’t think ANYONE would pass up the opportunity to get one over on the English media and vote ronaldo for best young player. The reality is podolski was on a different planet to ronaldo that World Cup.

Exactly, RESTED, he already did his part to help Portugal to win the first 2 games and was therefore RESTED, how is that a bad thing?

As for being kicked off the pitch by the Dutch, again, how's that his fault?

Like I said, the team of the tournament had more to do with the over-reaction of the English media over winkgate.

Platini only has 2 goals in 86 despite playing in a much more central role, I don't see you commenting on that pick.

No it didn’t. The team of the tournament was not decided by the English media. And the rest of Europe/the world wouldn’t miss a beat to get one over on the English media and name ronaldo as one of the stars of the tournament if he had done anything to deserve it.

Ronaldo was raw at that tournament, scored a penalty and didn’t assist anyone. He didn’t have a bad tournament but he wasn’t anywhere near the top performers.

I’ve never said goals aren’t important. You know my stance on ronaldo and how much I rate him, but just admit you’ve picked him hoping that people see ronaldo messi and vote for you without realizing that it’s to be based on actual performances in the tournament.
 
Platini was named to the team of the tournament so why would I comment on that pick?

I would have picked Cannavaro if he was available, but given the remaining choices, I thought Ronaldo was as valid as pick as any.
