Wayne Rooney rejoins Everton | United save £30M by giving him £10M pay-off

'Standards' must be the reason why so many young United players praised Zlatan immediately and effusively.

And why Mourinho is trying to bring him back despite having a serious injury at the age of 35 and huge wages.

Meanwhile the one moaning about the "standards" is shipped off to Everton on a free transfer and we cover half his wages for a season just to get him out of the club.

Go figure.

Where are you and other people getting the info that we are paying half his wages?

I was of the assumption that we just paid him a lump sum to terminate his contract. Similar to that of Keane when he left.

That's what I'm talking about. We paid up 50% of his contract and gave him away on a free.

Has there been anything verifiable on the deal that got us rid of him?

Anyway, I think his next season at Everton will be much like his last couple here. Koeman will try him in various positions before coming to the conclusion that he's not good enough to start in any of them and he'll be benched.

Agreed. Struggle to see who he gets a game ahead of at Everton.

He should have chosen his words a little more wisely.

I said somewhere else I can't wait to hear the Old Trafford faithful belt out one last "I saw a man the other day" or just a chorus of "Rooney, Rooney" on his return to show our appreciation, but now I'm more looking forward to hearing an even more rapturous "YOU SCOUSE BASTARD!!!, YOU SCOUSE BASTARD!!!"

Needs to improve a lot on the 2 performances so far.
reply: He can't because his body has expired.

Can we sell him to China this transfer window

Looked rotten tonight :/ should only be a squad option in my opinion. If we are relying on him to score 20 we are in big trouble

Utter shambles. Tried the Hollywood pass and nothing came off. Hugely irresponsible performance

 Everton fans realising just what they've got on their hands now.

It'll be even worse when the season starts and he keeps stinking up their team with pub level performances. I'm so glad he's not our problem anymore.

Not our problem anymore, I am just ecstatic he is back at Everton!

:wenger:

Still expect they'll make a fortune selling him to China after the World Cup (whether he's goes to it or not) but I do hope he has a decent season himself personally outside of our matches with Everton.

I've been ribbing a Toffee supporting friend about his atrocious performances. He was convinced Wayne was a better player than I made out and it was just because we played him in the wrong position. What fun.

Question is, will the media finally acknowledge how far he's declined? Even towards the end of last season he was being talked about as if he was still world class.

I still fear that he's coming back. I'm like a terrified peasant crossing himself while trembling inside my Carpathian council house.

He looked terrible tonight. Everton are going to struggle balancing the league and Europe and as well.

We need official garlic and holy water partners! This should be Ed's priority to help protect us from ill omens and the undead.

Might be pre-season but it sounds like it's history repeating itself only now with Everton supporters.

Is everyone forgetting that a lot of people on here were told to shut up (less polite than that) when this was blatantly obvious 3-4 seasons ago? Eventually, all the same suspects who thought he would turn it around, silently accepted that he was shit. Then it just turned into the sanctimonious drivel like "stop insulting him, our fans are so embarrassing, he's a legend! I feel so sorry for Rooney :(."

Everton supporters have caught on much more quickly to their credit. Though, they've had a fair widespread warning prior to the transfer, including more of the media turning on him (or basically reporting the facts that he's finished) recently to give them a heads up. I await the stories that he thinks Koeman is standing in his way of reinventing himself as a defensive midfielder.

It's such a lovely feeling knowing that he's no longer our problem.

Go forth and be as tumescent as you like Wayne, I no longer care!

I hope Rooney can make some sort of an impact at Everton - United fans still got behind Rooney because of his past

can't see the Everton fans getting behind him as much and it could be a very long 2 years for Wayne

How disgraceful from Everton fans on GrandOldTeam. Upon watching that performance tonight, out there he was a sacrificial lamb as far as I'm concerned, and I for one hate it.

would love to hear Wilkins thoughts this season

Yep...they are not happy bunnies.

Rooney find Davies out wide, Davies burst past his man and finds a good cross to Rooney.... who slips on his fat arse

Said before we signed him this was a poor signing. When will we learn

You wouldn't have it would you? You just wouldn't have it. Rooney is, and has been, finished for a very long time.

He needs to get a serious grip here. Not impressed.

Well that was an eye opener

If United didn't want him the alarm bell clearly didn't sound to our manager. They saw it. I saw it. United fans saw it
Now we are stuck with him on a huge wage offering virtually nothing.

What was that weird floated chip attempt from 20 yards with a 6'8" goalkeeper on his line?

He's pretty crap, poor first touch and slow. I hope we sign someone that relegated him to the bench.

Let's not be mistaken in thinking that this is a poor performance. It's just a standard Rooney oerformance. He isn't capable of anything better. He's gone.

Said it from the start.... At best a bench player for squad rotation...

Liability.
He’s gonna start every game. I hope you all know that.Every. Game.
Yep... It's going to be painful...

Absolutely abysmal, kin embarrassing, bring back the straq

As his employer we can sack him and pay nothing to terminate his contract based on this performance, because this is clear gross misconduct

Needs to improve a lot on the 2 performances so far.

his touch was horrible four years ago and it still is now. No creativity, no pace.

He was a worldclass player till 26 but since then he's one of the most overrated players in English football. He can't play as a striker and a 10 bcause he isn't that good anymore.

Utter shambles. Tried the Hollywood pass and nothing came off. Hugely irresponsible performance

My hands are up in the air! He's finished, Iv been played by sentimentality.

Watch about an hour the game before I turned the telly off in disgust because of his performance. His inability to adapt to his loss of pace is baffling for a player once considered World Class.

Drogba, Lampard, Ronaldo, Xavi, Iniesta, Zlatan are examples of players that were able to adapt as their physical abilities waned yet Rooney has looked finished before he even hit 30. I thought he just lost his passion for the game at United & the change of scenery could do him good yet he looks even worse.

His technical ability in particular looks shockingly poor for a player once lauded for his vision, passing range, intelligence & skill levels.

He's woeful. Absolutely dire.

He was a lot worse than I expected tonight. A tremendous amount of miles on the clock has Rooney, and it shows.

Exactly this!

It was infuriating.

Me, I do. I was one of the first that called it. Lots of people repeated what the media said for a long while.

I think most of us who are commenting on this thread today were well aware of his dwindling abilities more than 5 years ago.

That Everton thread is brilliant. It's word for word the same sort of debate we've been reading here for years.

"He's always taken a run of games to get into form."

"We need to buy more creative players to get the best out of him."

"He's grafting his balls off out there."

"He wasn't as bad as <insertDavyKlaasenhere>!"

Understandably, it's as if some of these lot haven't watched him play for a very long time. He's completely, utterly finished, has been for the best part of three years, and those Everton supporters desperately trying to cling on to the weakest of arguments are in for such a let down.

I actually feel sorry for those lot that have already figured it out. They will have to watch him play like an idiot week in, week out and feel that same frustration and exasperation every single Saturday until either Koeman benches him, or gets sacked because he didn't. Getting rid of him is a fecking lifesaver.
