Wayne Rooney rejoins Everton | United save £30M by giving him £10M pay-off

He got the record only because he overstayed his welcome. He was useless the last 5 years.

You realise the guy that held the record before him played for Utd for 4 more years than Rooney, right?

Also, in those useless 5 years he averaged 15 goals a season, even including the measly 8 he managed last season.

What the hell is this bullshit about his damn Everton pajamas?!?

Sounded like Theresa May and her running through a field contrived 'confession'

Putting on my bedtime amateur body language expert pyjamas, the way he said it sounded like a lie to me.

I come here to get differing opinions and I'm offering mine now. Take it as you like it.

This has nothing to do with your treatment of him. Every player feels like he's not past it and who best to show it against than the team that thinks you are now.

You think United mistreated Rooney?

You have no idea. He loves United and United loves him. There's no animosity, just admiration. United have facilitated his move back to Everton as they know it's where he wanted to go.

United gave Rooney the platform to win every accolade possible. He gave the club everything he had in return.

You're really clutching at straws

I was at OT when he scored that overhead goal against City. Best goal I have ever witnessed live. Thanks for the memories Wayne.

On your Rashford point - you've used the key word yourself. Potential. If anyone's jumping to conclusions it's you.

On the Rooney point, sure his past 3 seasons have stained his legacy somewhat, but there's a reason why he was getting that massive contract everyone loves to bash him for.

Just a number in the team? Have a word with yourself.
He got that massive contract because Moyes and Woodward were incompetent, nothing to do with his performances.
Rooney was an integral part of a team that got to 3 Champions League Finals in 4 years. We were best or 2nd best team in Europe (so essentially the World) during that time. That's slightly different to Fletcher who was a good squad player and also unfortunately suffered loads of injuries over the same period.

The greatest manager of all time thought he was pretty bloody special and so do I.
In that team, the key players were Ronaldo, Vidic, Rio, Scholes, Tevez, Evra; any hardworking player would have replace the job Rooney was doing, I think even Tevez was a better player than him, but Rooney was privileged because he was the "English White Pele". Take away Rooney from that team and we would have achieved the same success during that time. What I mean is that Rooney at no time have been a talisman player for us, Ronaldo, RVP, Cantona were, but not Rooney.
This might be among the most ridiculous posts I have seen in the Caf. You think he was not as great as Vidic or Rio, (would agree with you on Scholes and Ronaldo), ? Makes me wonder if you have only been watching football for the last 3 years. Fletcher was a good, solid dependable and loyal player. Not a great, but he contributed to the trophies we won in his time here, but without him, we would have likely won most of those anyway. Without Rooney it is likely as not that we would have won far fewer trophies. It is too early to make a judgement on Rashford one way or the other, but heep in mind that at 20 Harry Kane had only scored around 10 goals for Spurs. Lets wait and see what his record looks like next May before we write him off as overrated.
I bet we would have won the exact number of trophies or even more, just replace him with Tevez and you get a better replacement.

This new generation coming up will never know how good he was in his prime. One of the greatest players to ever play in the premier league and at points in the world. He's done it all, an absolute legend.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything Wazza. The memories and achievements created will last forever :)

Absolute bollocks. He was one of the best players in the world at that time, scoring vital goals, week in week out.

Is late for his first press conference apparently

So, Rooney has basically confirmed he will play regularly for Everton.

They're stupid. This will really hinder their season.

It's a shame that his career has nosedived so quickly over the past 3/4 years. Would have been nice to have him retire at United, but unfortunately he has been deadwood for a while now, and has been a hinderance to the team at many a time.

Still appreciate all he has done for us tho. Can't take away his achievements. Hopefully can find some form again at Everton.

"You mention his age, 31, 32 in October, still young for football."

Ronald's been smoking some of that Dutch stuff!

What's this shite about wearing Everton pajamas since he was 13?! What grown assed adult wears pajamas?

Apparently, he says his time was up when he realised he was rubbish:

“It was around November I knew [I’d be leaving],” he said at his Everton unveiling, as reported by the Daily Telegraph.

“I spoke to Jose in January to see what his opinions were and he always said he wanted me to stay and help the team until the end of the season.

“I did that. I helped in the games he put me in but I knew I had to leave to move forward for my career. It was a sad moment because I had been at the club for 13 years but I had to think of my career as well.”

“I started the season doing OK. I had a bad game at Watford away and that was it,” Rooney added.

“He started with me as a No 10 with Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] up front but then he changed the system a little and the lads who came in did well.

“He stuck with that. That’s his decision and I respect him as a person, as a manager. I understand managers have to make decisions but I also have to make decisions for my career.”

He's obviously not gonna accept he was completely wank. Seems like everyone surrounding him convinced him into thinking he was world-class *except* for the Watford game.

Expectations are lower at Everton. Koeman hinted in a presser that he needs 10 goals from each attacker who replaces Lukaku or something to that effect. Judging by how Rooney was stat-padding by accidental assists and balls bouncing off his arse early on last season, I think 10 in all competitions is doable for him. But he did seem more like Championship player at times last season, so it remains to be seen if he's still capable to playing in the premier league.

Expectations are lower, but the opponent are pretty much the same 17 teams he faced last year and moving to everton doesn't mean he's going against easier teams

Interesting in the press conference, with both Rooney and Koeman refusing to be drawn about what position he'll actually play in! Instead vaguely talking about the "Quality of the player" and how he can do this role, that role etc.

Clearly he'll start out up front, and when that's obviously not working, move around without losing face.

He'll start up front. Maybe score 2 goals in his first 4 or 5 games. Then maybe a goal drought of 5 weeks where he starts to drop deep to ''get more of the ball and create stuff''. At this time he makes no secret of his desire to play centre midfield. And that's where he'll be moved to and will remain playing there for the next 2 years. A position where he won't get shown up by his dismal goal stats and can still make some highlight reels with his set-pieces. The media will say he has been rejuvenated and happily ignore his continual woeful performances. It'll be like the emperor's new clothes... again. Many Everton fans will feel like they're losing their minds with the lack of criticism he receives from everyone around them. He'll also then get recalled to the England squad and may even lead them out in Russia.

But not our problem anymore.

Yep, this is the key line!
I think I got caught up in the whole "he can still be a 10" when he was shocking up front, replaced by a "he can still do it up front" when looking sluggish elsewhere.

Who can forget that VP, Rooney, Falcao combo under Van Gaal. That was some dark days

Go ed' lad. Knew we shouldn't have sold him.

Awww you've gotta love that! Happy for him! I hope he has a decent season as I would take no joy from seeing him fail.
