Rooney needs a few games to get at his best. It was true 10 years ago. It is true now.
10 years ago he was good enough to persevere with. Now he isn't so we'd be waiting for feck all. He's finished.

According to The Sun, the club have told him to forget about a new contract.

He ruined quite a few counterattack img opportunities on Sunday. I am just tired.

Counter attack means you need to have bodies in front of you to counter teams. When Rooney loooked up, on that occasion, all he had ahead of him was Bournemouth players.

To me, apart from Martial, a three of Mata, Ibra and Rooney are too slow to counter. To add to that, we are way too narrow.

I thought he had a good game, he was involved in a few of our chances, scored 1, linked up with zlaten well, his passing was efficient enough. He was not amazing or bad, but he was a threat, and what we need this season he could be important, next year is another matter. He will slowly be a transition out of the team has Pogba's influence grows and grows, but for now Mourinho is smart enough not gutting the entire set up.

How has Paul Stretford managed to open so many accounts on the Caf?

....and doesn't have the pace or power to continue his run up the line.

I can't imagine Hazard, Ozil, Mane, De Bruyne or Eriksen losing he ball so easily in that situation.

Pretty much. Should have gone for it. Of course he can't though. And he knows it.

I can't imagine Hazard, Ozil, Mane, De Bruyne or Eriksen losing he ball so easily in that situation. Not to mention the main creator for second tier teams in the PL - Barkely, Mahrez, Shaquiri, Tadic?

Who cares what you can imagine? Fact is, Rooney was boxed off by four Bournemouth players, where if he carried on, would most likely had ran into a dead end. He tried to cut back because thats where Mata and Ibra were. Although, if we had someone running the channels, he would I have probably played it down the line.

Its hurting us; having the player who plays in the most dominant position for creating chances being slow, having a bad touch and dribbling.

I honestly think he would struggle to start for most teams in the league as an attacking mid.

He shouldn't be in the team period.
The way he keeps losing the ball and breaks down our play is uncomfortable to watch.
Rooney was a great player and deserves recognition and respect for that however, the Rooney of now simply isn't near good enough.

It's a forum where posters provide their opinions on a range of matters? Have I misunderstood what we all do here?

He needs someone in a more advanced position to bring the ball forward? Behave.

He constantly slows down attacks and is liability playing in the position he currently is, when we have better players suited for the #10 role. We do need a specialist for this position going forward however, if we are to continue to play 4-2-3-1.

He's finished playing at the top level of football, and has been for a few years now. Mourinho will see this.

In the GIF above there really isn't much Rooney could have done in that situation as he was completely on his own. However his reaction to losing the ball there is disappointing, 6 years ago he would have run like a lunatic to get the ball back instead of just standing there and complaining.

Instead of turning into the defenders path, he should have spun left. Your right about his reaction though.

I think sometimes he gets frustrated that things he did easily before have become more difficult and he sometimes takes his frustration on others.
The arms waving stuff have become too familiar with him.

2 games one goal one assist, 1700 whinging comments. We really do know how to support our club legends.

Liverpool supported their club legend Stevie till the end, that worked out well. Whether or not he's a club legend doesn't make him exempt from criticism.

Can we please stop calling that 5 yard pass to Lingard, before the lad ran 30+ yards through the Leicester defense, an assist. It was a solo goal. This further adds fuel on how stats obsucre the truth about rooneys 'play'.

Gerrard in the season before his final season nearly guided Liverpool to the title and got an unbelievable amount of assists and goals at the age of about 35.

Should we forget both of martials too then? Poor season he is having then. Definitely sell.

With regards to the GIF. What's preventing Rooney from simply holding the ball up whilst waiting for others to come into play?

Hold up play is part and parcel of an attackers game, Rooney has lost his ability to successfully hold the ball up long ago.

In stead he meekly tried to check back and was nicked of possession.

The delusion is real :lol::lol:

Just love how the first defense of Rooney these days is to throw another player under the bus. Really does reaffirm many of you are 'rooney fans' as opposed to man united fans.

Remember Massimo Cellino was paying someone £500 to pedal the bullshit narrative - that everything was all rosy at Leeds - wouldn't be surprised if Rooney was doing it. He's got the hacks all singing to his tune anyway!

Except it was Suarez who did it and as soon as he left, they became crap almost instantly.

If he gets 30 of those then clearly we are missing something, however thats such a small sample that it really isnt indicative of anything.

Goal a game - 1 in 1
Or goal a game 49 in 51

Which stat is worthwhile?

Miki got an insane amount of assists last year, so THATS clearly relevant.

Why do i get the impression that Rooney fanboys cant wait for him to get 4 goals against Burton in the 3rd round of the cup so they can "pad" his stats out. Pathetic.

Suarez was the catalyst but gerrard sterling and sturridge also had great seasons. Pogba could be our catalyst, we could you know wait and see instead of writing 43 pages of constantly bitching about someone who starts slowly two games in to a season.

These so called pro Rooney posters have either migrated from mumsnet or should I say nansnet, or they're undercover rawkers taking the mick. I refuse to believe Manchester United fans can be so damn deluded.. no one can be that poor at reading the game. Everyone goes through a phase where you support a player not good enough for United, feck me I had a soft spot for Anderson.. but eventually I realised it is a lost cause and he needs to go. Rooney is such an obvious case, he doesn't even have those wonder games where you could think.. wait maybe he still has it. He's been gloriously shite for ages.

As for the media, I am stunned as to how he has his fat fingers in so many pies.. it is like once Fergie left, he has just completely ran the show.

Martial had one terrible shot going wide. Rooney scored it. Martial made a simple pass to ibra 40 yards out who proceeded to produce a great long distance finish, am I missing something?

This isn't a Martial thread. And you've just acted to further prove my point people will throw others under the bus to absolve Rooney of any wrong. In this case one of the few bright spark from our last season :rolleyes:

Martials pass to Ibra doesn't count as an assist in my eyes. The shot wide directly made the goals scoring opportunity for Rooney so it should count as an assist. As opposed to Lingard who created his own.

I have no desire to further split hairs about what counts as an assist with a Rooney fan boy. The fact you criticise martial as a defense for Rooney is nothing short of pathetic.

Yeah Mourinho has a poor reading of the game, but you're tops.

Zlatan and Martial were in that situation several times, Ibra usually stops and holds the ball till his teammates arrive then passes, Martial has dribbled his way out of it several times. What's this shit about there being no one to pass to? Do the likes of Hazard lose the ball everytime 'there no one in front of him'? Do you guys have excuses for every other time he lost the ball?. All he had to do was stop the properly or cut inside, something a lot of players do routinely. You guys are amazing, I bet you blame his poor touch on someone else too

I am in no way a Rooney fan boy. He wouldn't even be starting if I had my way but the level of abuse on here is just stupid considering you're supposed to be united fans.

And the point is martial has been poor but we are willing to stick with him. Martial is my favourite united player.
